They are a nice machine. I dont know, i just couldnt buy a popo with all the experiences ive had with them in the past, plus being the first year they are out. Wish they would trim about 150 lbs from it too, then it would be alot more competitive.
Lighter doesnt mean junk. Popo is one of the only quads that weighs that much, other then the 2 up machines. I have a grizzly 700, and it has a dry weight of somewhere around 620 lbs or so. Its not weak by any means, ive rolled it twice with minimal damage, bouncing off of rocks, ect. Just saying, if they would shave some weight, would be a better machine. Power to weight ratio, i bet if they cut down the weight it would keep up with the TC 1000 and renegade 800.
Actually you are wrong. The Thundercat weighs more than the 850XP but for arguments sake they weigh the same with fluids.
Also I have experience with the thundercat and the new sportsman and the plastics on the sportsman are much higher quality than the cheap feel of the arctic cats. That is the main reason I was turned off to buying the Arctic Cat.
The Outlander weighs 100Ibs less and they have known frame issues where you have to have a skid plate or else. And Visco is terrible.
To each their own i guess. I dont like tcats, they have some problems, plus they are huge and bulky, dont handle that well. For frame issues, they are way out of proportion. Alot of the damage people claim of being slow, light "tap" at 5mph. Total bs on that. Im sure they arent willing to say they were at fault. Alot of the cases of bent frames are from bad roll overs, or hitting immovable object, which will ruin any quad. ATR makes a spline that slides down the center spar.
If you dont feel like buying the spline, you can get 3 pieces of 2"x1.5" square tubing, weld together, and slide down the center. This plus the addition of skid plates, you wont have any troubles. Visco lock takes time to get used to. I have a friend with a renegade 800, that ive ridden a few times, and i actually like the visco lock. Throttle control and momentum, and knowing how to use it, makes it a real capable system. In alot of cases i actually like the visco because of the auto locking.
The Visco is just a bad idea if you ask me. What if you implemented that into a pickup truck? I hear lawsuits!
The Visco is never there when I need it, in mud you are always 3-wheeling a different wheel thus pulling left then pulling right. There is definately a large learning curve when the Visco does what it wants when it wants.
I really like can am but until they fix visco or they come out with mods to lock it somehow. I wont consider them.
Ive never had a problem with visco lock in any mud situation. My friend has been through some real nasty stuff, and ive watched him, and ridden through it myself, with no troubles. Theres a reason why about 90% of the mud racers and riders use can ams, for their power and capability. As long as your on the throttle, once it locks your locked, if your trying to pussyfoot through, even then, no problems.
They did make a quicker engaging visco, the QE visco on the new 2010s, which engages almost instantly. Rock crawling, i agree can be tricky, but once you get through the learning curve, and have some experience on the machine, you can finesse a can am through the rocks just as good. And to be honest, there has been a very limited time ive actually used diff lock on my trails, the only time was pulling a broken down sportsman 500 up a rocky hill.
i use to not be a polaris fan but after riding one of these im hooked. ive currently got a brute force 750 i'd trade in for a polaris but i just cant stand how they look.
i have the 550 xp it only has 40 hp but it gets up and goes all the xps have good pickup the xps just haul ass they do have a small cargo in the rear but just enough to keep your basic tools in it the seat is comfortable i love mine the adc is the greatest for going down hills
this weekend i got a rock cought in between my brake caliper and my rim and it tore or blew three 2 inch holes in her so keep that one in mind its a minor mistake but still costed me $200.

The problem I have with them shaving off pounds to be competitive is that they go to plastics, and cheaper/lighter parts.
So far so good the new sportsman is selling off the shelves and everyone is loving it.
