incredible! Beck is one of the few bands that play real music. Today, the major of the bands don't have talent, they make music trough the tecnology, they invent a voice, a guitar, a piano, a drums, etc. They don´t play anythin, they don´t know about music.
I love the sounds he creates on this whole album-- definitely paved the way for Sea Change. I love him-- he's earned a place as one of my favorite artists of all time.
I've been trying to capture some of his sound with my music lately. If any of you have a free moment, I'd love to hear what you think of it-- check out my new music video on my channel. Thanks!
I was watching BB1 robbing stuff from an alotments in the UK around this time, oh how u miss out on things cos u too young to know anything... oh how?
i saw this cat in '95 and again in '98. Both times in Akron, OH. Absolutely fucking fantastic performer. The best living solo artist/performer in my opinion.
@wasabihansen I agree. Saw Muse live, they played exactly 4 things, out of 19, that I didn't expect. And every song is pretty much exactly the same pretty much every time
@wasabihansen - at the drive in live is mental, if u like that sort of thing. they are broke up now though. the mars volta are another band with 2 of the guys from ATDI who give a pretty awsome abstract preformance.! check it out man.
Why do you keep plugging muse they pale in comparison to Beck.Beck is like a chameleon changing his musical skin with every fresh new album he puts out.
I adore Beck's music, but his live performances are a bit inconsistent. I like how he does Cold Brains here--it's just different enough from the CD, but still works. Seems like he's kinda going thru the motions on Lazy Flies (or maybe I just don't like the key he sings it in). And does he forget the lyrics at 6:50 on Broken Train?
He likes changing words and stuffs live. makes it different. I mean he plays these songs like thousands of times. if he changes them up he doesn't get bored ya know?
this is true 98 percent of the time, but sometimes he just...slips. there's a recording i used to have of him playing beercan live and he spaced out on practically the whole song. to be fair, the guy's written like 12 billion songs over the years.
"mutations" is very under-rated in my estimation. so is "sea change" . To go from albums like this back to "Guero" and "Info" is amazing. He is brilliant, like u said.
aww, such a brilliant musicians, an these three brilliant amazing songs, i love love love Mutations and all of his stuff. he looks so cute here, not as in atractive and stuff, more in the "cute as a child or kitten" sense
Broken train is prolly my favourite Beck song, for now at least, im always loving more.... its the reason why i bought the movie "Southlander" that and to see Slater.
I can't get this song out of my head lately. Yesterday I brought Mutations to work and was listening most of yesterday and today--over and over to the record at my f---ing desk.
This song is like a "song of hope" sung at a funeral. It both soothes my despair--without needlessly changing it-- and it lifts the heart in an effortless soaring. Love it!
Seriously, is there a more talented pop musician than Beck around these days? The guy writes fantastic melodies, sings beautifully, constantly re-arranges his music, chooses great musicians, is an artist but not pretentious... I don't like hip hop nor his forays into that genre but I can't deny that Mutations is the best rock album I've heard in 10 years. This guy is making gorgeous music, isn't he? Let's hope he continues to do so.
this is beautiful nihilism

I like how he gives his all on the vocals here. You can really hear em belt it out(specifically on Cold brains during the chorus).
