  • so, you can use 3g on it if you have a blackberry phone?

  • Ordered one , tho backordered, They've sold like hot cakes at $199. I really wanted a 10" but this is hard to resist. The hardware seems awesome and I'm not an app whore.

  • Playbook is only 199 now

  • I like trains....

  • Very tempted by the playbook now

  • I got an I pad and I might buy a playbook flash really lets I pad down and pink Floyd this man is a genius

  • I just gotta know is it better than the ipad cuz then im gettin the playbook looks way fresher

  • Like ur videos .. ur a great help while humorous :p

    keep them coming

  • So far this looks really freaking sweet!

  • FINALLY...I'VE BEEN WAITING SOOOO LONG FOR THISSSS ....cause i love the playbook and it would be freaking awesome to have my most fave reviewer doing this :P

  • wow...you know in switzerland where i live trains are THE way of travelling, of course cuz our country is waaay smaller, btw i used to live in nz...ive been in melbourne like 3 times =)

  • now I'm off to watch the next two parts of your time with the playbook. With my lovely Palm Pre Plus :p I gotta say, I'm very interested to learn more about the playbook.

  • looks like a very good tablet. But I can't wait until the HP Palm tablet with Web OS comes out. I'm a bit of a Palm fanboy, they've made fantastic phonesthroughout the years. I hope you get a shot to review that when, or before it comes out. Love to hear and see what you think of it. Cheers Blunty

  • what song were you playing?

  • THe Question is that :

Which is Better This or Ipad 2?

Does it have future updates that make it faster and easier to use.

    Is is reliable?

It is easy to keep in sync?

And why do other companies other than apple have Gibberish names for their device?

  • train isnt old is you come from the country where you dont get busses on the weekend... -_-

  • I guess you never herd of hp web os because this blackberry os is a complet coppy.

  • @rikart16 My advice, worry less about OS's that share similarities (as almost all do), and PLEASE instead, go buy a dictionary and spend some time learning to spell. Your "communication" makes my brain hurt.

  • ha ha fruit themed device

  • I really like your review. I wait for the 3G model. It would be great if it can do voice calls and sms

  • Also, taking the train means that you dont risk the ash cloud canceling your flight.

  • @alphamone The trip was just prior to those concerns.

  • @Blunty3000 dont moke the poor dude:P

  • @alphamone poor u wanna feel smart

  • I have one.. its excellent and impressive device.

  • Looks brilliant

Since you were using mostly all of it's features how much battery life would u say u got out of it?

  • Impressive little thing. The speaker is one of the things that isn't great on my ipad.

  • @CkVega Indeed, the speaker on the Ipad is nice, but I'm FOREVER covering the damn thing with my hand, or muffling it when I put it down on a soft surface like my couch. ugh. RIM got it right.

  • Love the videos you show parts of Australia, even inside the train. :)

It looks like a very good tablet so far.

Anyone has any idea if there is a Windows 7 (even XP would do) tablet with at least 720p screen and enough power to play Windows games from say 2002?

  • V ftw

  • well done blunty, good idea to be in a train however please be critical in your reviews. I know RIM gave it to you to "play" with but there are quite a few flaws starting with the power button which is so recessed.

  • why didn't you just pull the curtain? haha

  • @bondanoz Because Cameras work better when there's light. "haha"

  • @Blunty3000 getting pretty sick of your smart ass sarcasm when replying to peoples comments.... I know cameras need light, i wouldn't have mentioned pulling the curtains if I didn't see there were lights in your cabin.. maybe they weren't bright enough, which would have been a better answer than being a smart ass and saying cameras don't work without light.. I like your videos, but if you keep this up you're going to lose a subscriber ( i know, you probably don't care, you already have heaps)

  • This actually looks pretty good from first impressions. Not like I need a tablet however...

  • TSA is scared of Canada's awesomeness. Blackberry phones aren't allowed on airports.

  • this, HP tablet, or honeycomb tablet, so hard to choose!!! >:O

  • lol i use the sony handycam cx360v it a very good camera

  • 11 hours? Geez.

And I wonder, if I started making tech review videos, would I be as entertaining as you are?

  • Fun vid, Blunty~ I'm looking forward to seeing pt. 2. Even when I dislike the basis of your videos, you as an entertainer are enjoying to watch, heh.

  • wondering how well this would communicate with non blackberry devices like an Android phone, I do like that it has dual 1080P HD cameras on it though. that is a major win! and as you pointed out the speaker placement was also a very nice touch that more than just Apple ignored.

  • ...And you ruined the video with the Comic Sans font.

  • @MrPolarbeared There is absolutely no Comic Sans font anywhere in this video. FontNoob. DERP, way to fail.

  • @Blunty3000 Either way there's a hideous font in your video that looks like it came straight out of the 90's

  • @Blunty3000 It might also be Apple Casual? If I'm wrong this time I'm going to do some checking.

  • Wish u told me bout this before I got my iPad ;(

  • I already thought you were great but turning on Floyd now?!?!

Words cant describe how awesome you are!

  • That's a fantastic device there. I think I may get that instead of an ipad.

  • WE DON'T NEED NO EDUCATION

  • Blunty, now you have tempt me to find one of these. XD

  • @Mangamad7 Can't hurt to go take a look ;)

  • I think the train touch add a nice human touch, the device looks great. I'm not in the market for a tablet as I have a 1st gen iPad, however this has really gotten my attention.

  • This might be one of the only positive reviews I've heard on the device. Did you get one with the upgraded software where it actually has email support and such or are us using with with a blackberry?

  • I've never been a fan of BlackBerry for some reason. But after seeing the video on their new tablet I am rather interested.

Question: Did you find the screen to be too small? That's my only concern it looks a little too small maybe?

  • @BastardSixx Actually I find the 7-inch tablet form factor to be a really pleasant balance of size. and it feel really nice on one hand while operating it with the other... I love my iPad too, but its 10 inch size makes that whole one handed thing pretty awkward sometimes (comedy rimshot for innuendo), and not even my biggest pockets will hold it, while the Playbook slipped into them, and stuff like my smaller camera bags much more easily, while the screen still made things really readable etc

  • CANADAA RAWR!

  • Also, what about apps?

  • @AngryRantingNerd Your question is vague and lacking any and all context... I try not to guess what people might be asking, so .... yes, apps, it has those... you even see me use them.

  • @Blunty3000 Sorry sir, I meant to ask a broad question instead of spouting off several about the same subject.

-How many apps does it have?

-Do you think people will develop apps on the same scale that they developed apps for the iPhone and Android devices? A good example of where this didn't happen is the ZuneHD.

Anyway, I would say something about how you might want to be nicer to people, but because you're Blunty and you probably see me as an idiot and you as superior, why both? You dont care

  • @AngryRantingNerd "How many apps does it have" ... I dunno, 430? a billion? that number is constantly changing, what does it matter? all you NEED is a dozen or so apps that do what you need them to do.

You're comaring the Zune Microsoft's half assed attempt to to hardware because the iPod terrified them?... to Blackberry... BlackBerry, an already proven mobile device manufacturer that ALREADY has a whole bunch of devs making aps and has done for YEARS now? C'mon man! really, REALLY?

  • wow. it really seems amazing. it runs faster and smoother than my android phone im using rite now (XT720)

  • At 6:15, did anyone else hear an iPhone noise when Blunty said fwoomp?

  • I wanna see the other parts... me likey the Blackberry Playbook. :) But I could connect it through my dumb BlackBerry Curve too? Does it have to be one of the more priceier models or just any BlackBerry?

  • I love yr vids. So much fun. That Play book seems brilliant.

  • fam on the train? cool. watched to see any cowboys rustle the train.

  • any excuse to take a trip, blunty!

    Love them though

  • @Blunty3000 Great review of the Playbook so far. You're regretting the whole train idea throughout the review was very funny. I wonder, was it an accident or did you do it on purpose just so you'll have something more to rant about? :)

  • @sprite1g Oh "the curse of the idiot who tries to demo a gadget on an interstate train" has only just begun... part two is where I really start facepalming at my own lack of foresight ;)

  • Yes I have an iPad 2, and the cameras are absolutely terrible.

  • All the scenery going by reminds me of Harry Potter.

  • RIM is Canadian? I knew a lot of video games were made in Canada, but the Blackberry? Wow.

  • Awesome vid Blunty

  • WOW BLUNTY YOU ACTUALLY OWN A BLACKBERRY PHONE????? Or did you borrow someones.....I never seen you make a review on it. Unless I missed that video.

  • @2WIREG That was the BlackBerry Torch, I nicked it from RIM along side the PlayBook so I could test out the BlackBerry Bridge stuff (and, while this wasn't the focus of the video series at any point, I actually rather liked the BB Torch)

  • @Blunty3000

So any plans on maybe reviewing the torch at all while its in your grasps? I own one and although it does not have the power of the I phone or the Galaxy it gets the job done! Anyways I am glad you love the playbook i have been contemplating getting a tablet and knowing my blackberry can bridge with the playbook will push me over the edge for getting the playbook. Thanks blunty!

  • Why does a person wants multiple cells?

    I realy want to know.

  • did u get any weird looks from people walking by your cabin? lol cuz i would've felt pretty awkward just talking to a camera on a train full of people

  • At least it was an interesting challenge?

  • Okay, the speakers are a good idea.

The sort of curved back facing speaker placement of the iPad2 is just annoying, it's a step backwards from the iPad1, which at least had the speaker in a relatively alright place.

The Playbook does look nice, but I don't have a Blackberry and am too entrenched in Apple's walled garden to try and leave, I'd have to get rid of all apps in order to start climbing the wall.

  • APPLE of course sucks! This looks very good!

    iPAD sucks ass!

  • I really enjoyed this video :) Don't stress about the lighting on the train, it was different and made it interesting. I'm definitely going to look into this, looks awesome! Hope you had a nice trip :)

  • Blackberry sucks. 100%

the build quality, the OS . the ppl who have it.

    Your just hyped up !

in the end all you ever want is a Nokia or Apple , and a girl with a pretty face & nice legs ...

  • @Megasromanos

Well done at being a retard who has obviously never owned or really used a Blackberry product.

  • @Megasromanos I'm wondering if you saw all of the features while watching the full video.

  • Does it run android or the Blackberry OS?

  • id love to get this ._. but the 500 price tag just for the 16gig is like ZOMG!!! But yes if i had cash i would definitely get this

  • I've seen a few videos for this device now. It's looking to be pretty swish.

  • what is the price on this thing, its pretty nice?

  • I was just thinking throughout the entire video: did nobody look at you in that train like "what kind of idiot it that"?

  • Blunty gets to go first class :( I want to ride first class somewhere.

  • Were there many other people on that train looking at you? It kinda would have been cool to see you recording it.

  • Good review & looks like a great device. Cheers.

  • a few of questions blunty, is it a specific side u have to swipe from for the top tab and keyboard?, did you have any passengers suddenly stop past and wonder wtf was goin on with the ranting and how paranoid are you with the amount of electronic goodies you carry with you o_O. Great vid but, look forward to the second

  • Nice review, Blunty. One quick question, was there any lag in the playbooks interface at all? Looked pretty smooth in the video, but it's hard to tell.

  • @freakyfantom I had a whole bunch of stuff loaded up at one point, coulnd't even make it lag when I was TRYING to.

  • hey just quietly i think he hates trains

  • My brother works in the Hilton Hotel in Melbourne. If you happen to stay there and get a porter by the name of Darren Fenton tell him his brother says "Hi!" he moved to Australia from Ireland nearly 2 years ago..

  • But at least you have Pink Floyd..........what would the world be without Pink Floyd.........

  • from 2:25 on it looks like hes in an aquarium

  • the only thing keeping things like this from smashing down apple the unnamed fruit in the video's I-pad is the app's... apple and android's app store/market respectively are uncomparable to BB, BB has nothing like the size of apple, i mean hell there's over 70,000 Ipad specific apps

  • @brettgoudy That number is really only meaningful if there are 70,000 GOOD apps, but the vast majority are shit, or nasty ripoffs or copycats of other popular aps. The truly good apps, number is FAR fewer, and having more "noise" actually makes the good ones harder to find in the first place.

  • @Blunty3000 OTOH, even if only 10% of iPad apps are "good" apps, that's still many times more than apps for BB or even Android, both good and bad, so how are non-iPad tablet manufacturers going to catch on with consumers? Especially if developers are more motivated to create apps for the most widely used device.

  • @jleetj Dude, for you information, Android market alone is expected to pass the App Store by the end of this year in terms of application counts. Don't forget that Android also has alternative markets as well (legit ones). Still the numbers are as important as the skew of my left nipple relative to my right one on cloudy days. The quality is what matters and also the price. Android tends to have about 90% apps in a free full version add supported variant while ios is way behind on this.

  • @jleetj it´s simple, they don´t

  • @Blunty3000 What makes you think the percentage is going to change from platform to platform...I think that 10% across the board makes sense...in other words 10% of apple apps are worth having equals 7,000...and 10% of BB apps are worth having equals maybe 50...

  • Are you in Melbourne now?

  • Bah, the video was fine, you are so visual-gay - you could do more of these. Talking about slow trains, you could do one when you are stuck on the airport haha (something I always get)

  • yeah pink floyd!

  • I prefer the comfort of the train over bus. trains are slower tho :( But the toilet on the train is a big plus :D

  • I like trains.

  • PINK FLOYD? RESPECT.

  • I just wonder what the other people think when they see you communicate with a camera.

  • theres a curtain behind you blunty :L

  • @g739 Oh snap! LOL!!!

  • @g739 The point was to frame up to show scenery going by. Duh. Closing the curtain not only makes that pointless but also makes it DARK in the cabin, cameras like light, it's how they work. Derp

  • @Blunty3000 Catch 22

  • NICE! im going to a blackberry hosted training session on the playbook on monday in the city (i work at Vodafone, in Brisbane) =) the playbook looks like a beast! cant wait!

  • ay blunty i was thinking of seeing my gf who lives in melbourne. i was gonna travel from sydney to melbourne by plane. but now i kinda wanna see the country and stuff. how much does the XPT cost? that is what your on right countrylink XPT?

  • That looks great so far!

  • good 1 was think off get 1

  • i'll stick to my netbook

  • @foojuice101 so true, I live near Melbourne and go down there every weekend and I always find my self to be broke at the end of it :)

  • F-F-F-Flash supporttt. A must have tablet! :]

  • LOL! Props for trying out the idea.

  • looks better then ipad

  • hhahaha 1st time ive seen a review in a train :D really nice video

  • great video mate, very very entertaining

  • Looks freakin awesome!

    And smart too :)

  • i want one i have been hating on the ipad for so long and if it turns out to be a decent tablet i may get one aswell as a new blackberry

  • SO how does this compare with the iPhone Blunty3000? :P jk. Great review! What a supereb little tablet. I want one now.

  • Comment removed

  • You say the guys at RIM learnt from the mistakes from other people, now all the reviewers out there have learnt from your mistake off not to make a review of a train.... :P and great review so far :)

  • @EyesOnMeStudios Yeah, pro-tip, filming on a train is a total PITA! heh.

  • Love Pink Floyd!

    Oh, and... uh... great review!

  • We don't need no education!!! xD

  • aww i liked that song

    * searches music files*

    oo there it is!

  • Wouldn't it be really akward if someone sat next to him the all time watching him talking. xD

  • Nice review!

I hope you like Melbourne. It's an awesome place to visit but you'll go bloody broke if you live here (or even VISIT there)!

$100 will get you absolutely nowhere in Melbourne. $100,000 might get you through one day, if you plan to do a lot of things there. XD

  • interesting...

  • You do know there was some curtains behind you .

  • What did you use to stablise your camera on the train? Was it just a tripod?

  • @HighRoad001 Gorillapod wrapped around a handy handrail. Every videographer/photographer should own a Gorillapod ;) (also my camera's image stabilization helped smooth out the bumps and lurches too, it was a Sony HDR-CX700. I recently reviewed it)

  • @Blunty3000 how many phones do you have??

  • @Blunty3000 Ah yeah. I saw the gorilla pod later in the video in the reflection of something somewhere. I had already typed and submitted the comment though. D'oh. I guess patients really is a virtue.

And yeah, I saw the review of the CX700. I don't think I want to know how much money you spend on technology do I?

  • I love train travel! It makes the journey as much of an adventure as the destination.

  • i like these types of videos from nate burr

  • Looks like a really great start for a tablet, especially considering the tablet market is really only just getting into gear :) i look forward to the next part(s)

  • FLUW FLUW FLUW

  • Oh! So you did what Mr. Beans Vacation did to Monsieur Hulot's Holiday with Jacques Tati! Where the latter focus on the destination, the Mr. Bean one focus on the journey! Now that I finished comparing you with comical legends, i just have to say... I totally want one of those playbooks!

  • this is a major step up from the ipad or any other tablets so ZOMG to thay.

  • This tablet looks amazing! Very well designed(that goes for the software too). I hope the app store for RIM is also up to date to its competitors.

  • lmao when the sun kept glaring.

  • Did you have business in Melbourne? Or do you just like traveling a lot? Hope I'm not being intrusive. It just seems like a bunch of your videos are made when traveling. Love the video.

  • @francorst I just like travel.

  • @blunty3000: 3:32 How dare you insult that other fruit themed companies tablet Blunty. You total fanboy you, always mocking Oranges O-Pad.

  • It looks rather nice and compact as well as good looking. But not so small you might as well just have a larger screened smart phone. I can imagine having that tucked away in a bag on a day trip for when I don't want to take my laptop with me. Whats the battery life like?

    Looking forward to part 2.

  • @alex399r Yeah, I quite like the 7-inch format for tablet devices, as I discovered with the Original Samsung Galaxy Tab, it's an ideal copromise between screen real-estate, usability and carry-able size/weight, my wrap of battery life is in part 3 (predictably) ;P

  • Im fed up of people saying 'ooh they stole the idea from apple'. Who cares. Its not like apple came up with the idea for phones, or touch screens, or even computers. Other people having a crack at something means new ideas will come in (e.g. no home button) This is one of the only tablets that appeals to me, because of its size and features.

  • please don't use comic sans Blunty. ever. again.

  • @Techlology There is no comic sans anywhere in this video. font-noob.

  • Blunty, I love you... no homo

  • Aww Blunty, I liked the whole train thing, glare and bumpety-bump thing an'all

  • @rihanna72 Then good news, there's more coming.

  • @Blunty3000 Great stuff! Using the PB while travelling showcased it's usability in a realistic and believable sense hence feeling more a life-like review /thumbsup Blunty :)

  • I was completely closed minded to the Playbook, but your video is easing it back opened :). Some things I don't like which I think will be the main issues for Playbook are E-Mail (Only through a BB phone), connection to google (Download contacts, emails, calendar), Calendar (Apparently there is non on the device, again has to go through a BB phone.

Can you confirm these for me Blunty?

  • @twistedleafpro All those things work absolutely fine via the browser, and native apps are on the way too. it wasn't an issue for me. *shrug*

  • @Blunty3000 Yeah, hoping for Third party apps

  • @twistedleafpro Fun news on that front, not only will there be blackberry stuff but RIM are going to release a way for Android devs to quickly and simply recompile their Android apps for the PlayBook natively... gonna be sweet

  • @Blunty3000 Is the playbook based on Android??

  • @twistedleafpro No, it's based on QNX, which is UNIX -like (android is Linux based, also unix like) so there are some similarities in the code and the way thinks generally work (FYI, OSX is also UNIX based)

  • @Blunty3000 O right didn't know that, I thought ONX was some design company (Not as in software design). Knew OSX was unix, love it, use it everyday :)
