Chuck was the worst drummer for Megadeth. he wasn't bad by any means its just that Chuck followed the simple thrash drum routine: Hi-hat Snare Hi-Hat Snare Double Bass and Megadeth's music is way to technical for the simple drum beats. Its funny because 3 years ago Chuck was starting a bunch of shit about how he was the best drummer for Megadeth, How Nick had no chops, and how he co-wrote 5 songs on R.I.P. with Jeff.

@neverforget09112001 That's not true, Dave asked Nick to come back to do the System has Failed with him and he did (he actually wanted the entire rust in peace era lineup back but only nick accepted) but he was being a big douche and not cooperating with any of the drum techs and Shawn was another drum tech they were considering but then they decided to just fire Nick and use Shawn. It's all in Dave's autobiography

ellefson and mustaine have settled their diffrences. junior actually said a little while back if mustaine called him and asked him to rejoin megadeth he would say yes right away. i would way prefer him over lomenzo, but that's the only lineup change i would make. i prefer drover to menza and broderick to friedman.

i think my biggest problem is the way drover plays live. menza had the energy, degrasso had the massive drum fills, drover sounds like a drum machine. drover is an awesome guy and a great drummer, i just have certain expectations from a megadeth drummer. noone was more beastly than gar, though. yeah i know what your talking about. both of them are damn great drummers, but Menza plays the drums like he's having way too much fun!! Which is a damn good thing!! The way he bangs on the drums is crazy! I guess that's what you meant with him playing with "energy". Whereas Drover plays like he's concentrating too hard to hit the drums. No feel or anything. Check out Menza's drumming when they were rehearsing "5 Magics" Unfortunately, Mustaine wasn't playing, but still a kickass rehearsal.

I'd say Nick and Gar are about equal as Megadeth's best drummer. Gar was an excellent drummer and made the song seemed faster, more catchy than they were. Nick made the songs more catchy but he had his own style and had an excellent tone.

Lars plays like shit and throws crappy fills in every 2 seconds that don't go with the song. Lars pedal work is sloppy as well. Menza is flawless. Try playing the conjuring or holy wars or hangar 18 or even 5 magics.Everything he does is technically perfect.Unique sound. Now compare the drumming to anything on any of metallica's albums..Lars isn't even in the same discussion.

I would like to think that Gar Samuelson and Jimmy DeGrasso were at the top as far as technical ability is concerned. Samuelson never was able to show his true potential--he was fired from the band in 1987-88, so he only contributed to two studio albums. He didn't have a huge body of work outside of Megadeth, like DeGrasso, so we can only imagine what Samuelson was capable of doing. He was a very fluid and loose drummer; had a lot of interesting fills in Megadeth. Nick Menza rules, too.

IMO, he's a great drummer. He may not be as influential as Lars, but he was much, much tighter with the rest of his band. His drumming doesn't have a ridiculous amount of hiccups. That's all that matters to the average listener anyway.
