Ohpoop...Please remove the comment by Mstrat. When I first loaded the video, I happened to see the word "tragedy." It ruined the movie for me. From the beginning, I assumed Kirk Douglas would die, or else he would fail. It's not good when someone tips the ending of a movie. I really wanted Kirk Douglas to get away, was rooting for him, but KNEW he would not. Incidentally, this film was Kirk Douglas' favorite according to his autobiography, "The Rag Man's Son."
@PervisJohnson Yeah,,but when the movie came out, the reviews in your newspaper would have told you as much and even more. It isn't a ballgame where you can't be told the ending score; knowing that it is a certain kind of movie helps prepare you for it, and when you see it, you root for him to escape anyway. The Greeks went to tragedies knowing they were tragedies; they weren't expecting a comedy.
Saw as a child and never forgot it. The type of movie that stays with you days after you've seen it. Kirk's favorite role. The best acting of his career. Heartbreaking and not one to watch to feel fuzzy about. Initial warning of the coming tidal wave that we are now experiencing of loss of freedom and gvt increase of power.
Wow...that was really good. I could tell what was coming, but I still loved every second of it, and that's what matters. A brilliant movie.
