Another eloquent opponent of the draft was former President Ronald Reagan who in a 1979 column on conscription said:
"...it rests on the assumption that your kids belong to the state. If we buy that assumption then it is for the state not for parents, the community, the religious institutions or teachers to decide who shall have what values and who shall do what work, when, where and how in our society. That assumption isn't a new one. The Nazis thought it was a great idea."
Even if it comes to that,at least i would not have to jump on a helicopter and flee off eh?I can emigrate anywhere i want and i will do so if nessecary,it is merely but childish to judge one based on a few comments written on a website?
Yes,you are right in a way:That freedom of speech is essential in a democracy.Personally,i have been to Australia and South Korea myself and these countries would hardly rank as Totalitarian would they?If freedom of speech was really suppressed in Singapore, would i still have the ability to gank off my mouth here?
What have i done for Singapore you ask?LOOK:Why don't you ask yourself; What have you done for the benefit of the United States lately?"To create a more perfect union" or to create turmoil as is happening In Congress now and label it all under the ideal of free speech?I agree that the Singapore government might be a bit totalitarian, but why risk turning the country upside down and protesting non stop for insignificant issues all in the name of free speech?
Despite of everything, Chee Soon Juan is definately a good and loving father. That is one thing I can be sure of. And its in human nature to err, no one's perfect.
I'd be sad coz he's being treated with absoulutely no respect at all, when he has many good qualities as a man. But I wouldn't be embarassed or whatever. I'd be proud to have him as a parent.
