What I do for ballast is put down the "wet water" solution then put ballast down and the put the solution over it again. I also put a little ballast in between the track like in actual railroads.
How can I get your email address? I have a few questions to ask you, I figure you'd have plunty of idea's since you move alot. Mine is rojoe123@oh.rr.com thank you
I was AZ rock's Ballast plus they have ten times more options in colors. Most of their product you can get in 4 different sizes. On top of all that it is real not nut shells.
Great layout, great design... these series have been very very helpful, me and my bro are gonna hopefully start our track layout this year! awesome job man! GOOOOO Colts! LOL
Hey, nice videyo... But you're wasting quite some ballast... Try putting an old pantyhose over the nozzle on your vacuum cleaner so the excess ballast that you cuck up sticks to that and you can re-use it ...
the best way to balllast is 30/70 mix of PVA + water and a big ass syringe and a lot of patience.. Dude alcohol is for drinking not wasting on track ...
but fair play to you your vidios are an inspriration..
omg omg omg om gomg aomkg omgomg okg ~!!!! this is what iv been waitint to see!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! dude ur the best$!$ love all your videos keep em coming!
Yeah keeping a single ballast in between the tracks level is prototypical. In real life i think the way you have it would cause water to pool between the 2 lines therefore causing a wash out. i love the ballast colors you chose
You can also use a couple drops of dishwater detergent in your wet water solution instead of the alcohol. Also you can use a sharp xacto knife to remove the little pieces on the ties. Looking great!
Man your layout is looking great!!! Thanks for this series of videos on how to build your layout! At the moment my trains are still on the floor, but I am hopeful that I can build a layout with bench work soon! Anyways, thanks again and have great one! Bill

What my dad, my brother and I do is also add a little bit of dish soap to the water and glue to break the surface tension.

How come you don't just put the 50/50 glue/water into the spray bottle?

what are you going to do about that gap in the foam that is still showing under the track you were ballasting?

Great video, I am almost getting to the point of ballasting my tracks, what size ballast looks the best for Ho Scale?
mightydesign 8 months ago
@mightydesign I think medium ballast but some people use fine.....medium is the closest size to the real stuff when scaled down.

Hey, what # switches are you using in your yard, and do you have them wired into your DCC system?

You're spraying to closed to the track and a spoon would give you better control for ballasting. Anyway good job!

I used Woodland Scenics Gray Blend Fine Ballast. Its made for N scale, but IMO looks more prototypical for HO scale than the WS Medium Gray Ballast.
Your layout looks great!
