  • Generally, how do you set the EQ for the tune that you are about to play next, I know that different DJ has totally different way to set it (For me I set them all at 12'o clock and tent to adjust the bass more than ne-thing else. (what is the best and effective transition from one song to another) really need a help :-) **BTW,3YRS AGO I INVESTED MY 5000$ON MY FIRST CD J DECKS AND KNEW NOTHING AT ALL ABOUT MIXING /WAS LUCKY FINDING YOU AND SUCH USEFUL TUTORIAL AND TRICKS) THANKS2U MATEY:-)

  • i dont agree with "messing around" with the EQ settings on a song .. not sure thats the best advice man , normally love your vids

  • thx!

  • Thanks a lot for this tutorial! Really helped me out a lot, I always used the 3band for slowly EQing in a track while reducing the same pitchrange on the other track to prevent overcompressing on a signal. But during the track I kept them on 12 all the time. Now I start playing with them some more and got very interesting results. :D

  • Hi ellaskins,

I would like to ask what would happen if DJs would not kill the bass of the incoming song during the mix? Also how can DJs count the beat in the monitor or headset when the bass is turned off. Wherein, from my experience, I rely on the bass in counting the beat. Correct me if I’m wrong, isn’t the bass or beat: the “tugs tugs” of the song and the hi is the hi hat.

  • This really was of great help main big ups dawg pro man

  • Ellaskins you have by far the best tutorial vids on here - i'm semi experienced been mixing for years but only been playing out sporadically the last year or two. I really enjoy watching these vids big big up mate - should I ever meet u in real life, expect a beer or two! :P

  • youre awsome

  • thanks!

  • freaking awesome!! dude u should charge people for this!!! Great Videoos!!! peace from Puerto Rico!!!

  • American Audio, oh dear lord, that can't be yours. I saw a DJM800 earlier, why is this behemoth setup fella?

  • My question to you dude, In every one of your videos, the equipment changes, is it all yours?

  • you speak very clearly, nice man.. even good to understand for germans :)

  • That's what I needed to know. Thanks! I really didn't have a clue what exactly was changing what sound. I'm a beginner and my mixer is Midas Venice 240. I also have "Lo", "Hi" and "Freq" (frequency for each) for each of them.

  • States the bleedin obvious this bloke!

  • /watch?v=ZAljr3hZRtk

    remix

  • Do dubstep dj's really emphasis the bass? or do they as well tweak it a little?

  • dubstep is bass, but a dj will use all the eq as you still have a good proportion of midd and top too j

  • on my mixer it sez bass treble and trim no mid i dont understand

  • yeah i was wondering what trim means

  • trim means the same as gain

  • thanks for this mayn!!

i hope im not being dum but, before you start messing with eq, should both levels be the same ?

  • That's great informations. I must admit that sometimes I went over 1oclock on the EQ. This load of infos is nice to know and will help me alot in my future set.

  • very very good and easy to understand im going to start mixing soon and your videos are great thank you very much : ) 5*

  • Thanxxx so much for that advice.I'm a begginer Dj and i been having some trouble with mixing tracks and working with the bass, mid, and treble at the same time.I'm learning something new everyday.

    thanxxx again!

  • good that

    very helpful

  • hey everyone i am just starting out DJing and i need more CD's

so if any of you have any suggestions of good House, Electronica, Techno or Hip Hop CD's or Vinyls let me know

give me a whole list i don't care just any suggestions of artists or tracks

    Thanks a lot!!!!

  • get a computer dj program. serato scratch live or native instruments traktor scratch. theres many more but those are like the two most popular i know

  • Go to MinistryofSound[.]com, then to the left click on "Music" then "Singles"

  • good vid

  • basic tutorial. Great for drum n bass mixers. keep it up

  • no offence, but that does not work for techno!

just look for a couple of jeff mills videos you will soon understand!

  • Good Vid. I have a GLI Pro Kill 500 wherewith I can strip songs of there main three components,

  • ableton is not so hard...but so it is not noobish...like virtual dj...

  • heheheh i love jonathan

  • 1 more thing, Jonathan, or anyone else for that matter: what is a good remixing program? Something that a total novice like me could get into?

  • try traktor3...you'll get lot of help on native instruments forums. but it's quite hard to mix with a keyboard and a mouse, so also get a controller (Numark, my choice). but I guess you'll go for a pair of players and a mixer sooner or later. :) (Thanx to J)

  • oops, dude, just realized you said "remixing". get an ableton, even though it's not really recommended for newbies :) good luck with it, anyway

  • Thanks buddy. Just got Ableton, but looks like a very slow learning curve...lol...it's okay though, I think I'll get it: eventually. Thanks again.

  • Very elaborate....just what I was looking for.

  • I always rock my trebs at 2 o clock mids at 1 o clock and bass at 12 just me tho, good videos mayn keep it up.

  • nice video thanks i been mixing with my eq's all wrong :)

  • American Audio (Y)

  • great tut, J! Not just because you show how to mess around with B-M-H, but explain why. Keep on, J!

  • "kuppazki fucking useless"

    yes you are !

  • So many people write you useless letters John...some people ask the most logical questions when they should learn to think for themselves...or at least experiment and see what happens so they understand first hand...

  • yo people whould like some feedback on my tenminmix on my profile

    id be really grateful, thanks

  • Nice tut!

You can (for example) go over 0dB with the mid to accentuate the vocals of 1 track (kill the bass/treb) during a mix.

You can create a combination of vocals of 1 track and instruments on the other.

As long as you remember playing in RED = WRONG!

  • How many kilograms of kit u got ^^ ? Never saw that mixer bfore

  • cheers, very helpful tutorial

  • thnx man ;)

  • nice one J!

Im getting my Decks this week and with your knowledge you have shared to us through the years...things is getting much easier!

  • thanks!, just trying to motivate and show that by sharing knowlage is better for us all in the long run.

     j

  • Nice tutorial
