The Honduras constitution states that it is a crime for a president to attempt to change the constitution to extend term limits. After several warnings from congress and the supreme court Zelaya (helped by Hugo Chavez) attemped to have a referendum so get rid of term limits and supress congress. Then congress and the supreme court ordered the military to arrest him and send him in exile to prevent bloodshed.
