I have ordered my second Imac. This one is 27 inc i7, Quad Core 10GB RAM etc, for magazine publishing. Heavy graphics involved. However, there is no need for me to go to a mac pro yet
You speak accurately, Applesoldier. The expandability of the mac pro gives it the edge for professionals, however, not all professionals need a mac Pro. That new Imac of mine will compete against a quad "pro", until it's expanded to 8 core or something
First of all the iMac is not a true desktop, the iMac is just an over glorified laptop in my honest opinion. You are comparing a true desktop to basically a laptop. In a good i7 full tower desktop, you could also have multiple display's. Apple is a joke, everything i, everything Apple, give me a break. They are just ripping the consumer of by creating a head buzz over their over hyped products. To Steve Jobs everything is either "Gorgeous" or "Beautiful", all he does is over hype his products.
@kev42o97 why do you want multiple displays? Imac is built for a purpose and multiple displays is not the purpose of the Imac. I do agree Aplle rip the consumer off
i'd get the mac pro if i had the money, but as it is i've been spending the last half year saving up just for a new iMac. I'm still running a powerbook G4 and it's just not cutting anything like it used to. i can't even play youtube videos without them playing real choppy. i can get the iMac i7 now and start saving up money for a mac pro in the future. i just desperately need a new mac asap.
you have good points my friend. i'm a college student majoring in media (video and sound production) you explained exactly how i'm feeling right now. i'm considering a new computer, an imac or a mac pro, and i'm dealing with deciding which and how much to spend. i'm subscribing!
Sorry Applesoilder but your "8 displays" argument just does not cut it you could easily build a PC that could support more than 8 displays for less besides that nice video.
im thinking of buying another i7 imac. Its just to great a machine man. If this one dies for some weird reason, i want another, lol. Screw waiting for it to be fixed, lol.
JK. I wish i could afford two of these. Im just dreaming.
intel will release the phryn chips next and that will hopefully be in the new mac pros. The only reason why i7 is not used in the mac pro is because you cannot have two chips in one machine plus the mac pro is built like a server so Xeon chips are the better breed and also 32GB of ram comes in handy when baking high resolution fuild simulations something which the imac cannot compare 32GB MADNESS!
@grassman48 I use 4 pretty constantly at home and work. I have a buddy that uses 6. the only 8 monitor system i ever used was just for show, it was a system that displaied a map and transmission centers with status on it for a ops center to see. soo generally yes when you get over 2 in most cases its almost overkill.
I wouldn't go so far as to say consumer directed machine, but the new i7 is good enough for the basic prosumer. most high end prosumers to professionals already have Mac Pro's and probably another iMac as well.
This is the first video you made that I agree with. That is why I stated the Mac Mini and Mac Pro are toys in my videos. I stated the Mac Pro is a different story.
I can build and ass kicking Core i7 workstation with RAIDed drives and Decklink card for about a grand but Apple can't?
Apparently Apple is, seeing as they're not exactly losing money each quarter. Unless you would buy a cheap mac mid tower, in which case Apple should make one just for you.
So basically, the Mac Pro is a Professional machine because of expandability?
:D my PC is a pro machine too! I can add firewire cards, usb 3.0 cards up to NINE harddrives (up to 18TB of harddrive space), up to NINE displays (3x PCIe 2.0 with EyeFinity cards), RAID controller.

Of course it's cheaper if you're willing to invest several hours for research, and purchasing, and building, and then installing the OS, and then installing the drivers... and at the end you still don't have a Mac.
Good video Eric. My only question is, if you have professionals who need Mac Pros, why wouldn't they go for the octo-core model instead of the quad-core?

Its not just apple dude.
What about my local Garage, its computer was full of all sorts of dust as it was in the shop next to their brake station. Is apple gonna deny this business computer for doing its job cause it has brake dust in it? Now the are certain business you cant use a machine in? Its fucking stupid and the tech was a fucking pansy. AND SMOKE IS NOT A BIOHAZARD, it can be toxic BUT ITS NOT A BIOHAZARD. this is very small amount of cases, this is the one thing that would sour my relationship with apple.
Depends i suppose, smoking can cause tar buildup inside the case which could block the fans, seen plenty of pics of intakes get stuffed up with a yellow substance that is usually attributed to smoking. Suppose it depends on how heavy a smoker you are and ventilation in the room.
Dust can be blown out. Tar is not dust. You can't just blow it out. It sticks to the insides of the computer and corrodes the components. Its not as simple or as clean as dust and it destroys the connectors on the motherboard and ruins the airflow by adhering permanently to the components.
lol, im always smoking around my old-ass ibook, and i do repairs mayself because of it being out of warrenty. the only thing the smoke will effect is the outside case. the only way smoke could do anything to the inside, is if it was open. And, even so, it couldent be open long enough to get that much tar. Same things true with my dad's HP. smoke all the time; nothing.
yes, these are very rare cases that made it to the media. I dont think its an issue and most smokers never have a problem with a machine. Thats why its not in the warranty, its so rare it wasnt even thought about to be put it.
its bullshit, is ford gonna deny my f150 warranty because i took it mudding and got it nasty? you wont see it happen much. Anyone who agrees with that is dumb. its a way to get out of repairing for free a totally fucked machine. Its dishonest and in this area apple is no better than anyone, it makes me sick. What about machines in places of work or dusty environments like factories? bullshit. Smokers aint covered but that imac in the dusty wood cutting factory covered with saw dust is?
Neither is. Actually look it up. The warranty is not covered if you smoke. The tar builds up inside the case and damages the hardware. You should put this analogy another way. If you have the computer in a factory where it puts off chemicals that are slightly corrosive they get sucked into the computer, they will not cover your warranty. Much like if you spill coke inside your computer they don't cover it under warranty. Its your fault.
However if you paid for apple care that is total BS because it should actually cover abuse, likewise with other warranties. I was referring to the factory warranty.
what we agree on something? WOW. well, teh 1 year warranty apple gives i can understand it not covering, but if i paid for a warranty it better cover it just like ford would cover my f150 if i took it through a puddle of TAR on my government road construction job or smoked inside the cab. Is ford gonna tell me they wont make there employees get in a car that had been smoked in?lol. Im denied due to smoke but that imac in the wood factory covered in saw dust is covered. lol. this is crap.
I agree on a lot of things, I just like to kid around. I own macs, have 2 macbooks and two iMacs, also have about 4 PC's. One thing that ticks me off is that many software companies dont offer dual license. For example, ZBrush, I own it on the PC and cannot use it on my Mac without spending another $500+. It's bullshit. BTW, does modo offer dual platform? I want that software bad, but I like dual platforms! At this time, my mac is mainly for iPhone development.
I HATE THAT SHIT. and its why I love Modo. They license to the user. when you pay them they give you a mac AND pc version. its dumb to charge one you twice and make consumers double dip.
modo looks friggin awesome. The only 3D app I own on the Mac is Cheetah, it's not bad but man modo looks like it blows it away. It also looks like modeling in Silo would beat cheetah. Not that Martin does a bad job with Cheetah, it is what it is, but modeling just looks so much easier with modo.
@kaosum, dude some people just want macs. It doesn't make them stupid, inferior or anything else. It's just what they prefer. Obviously you prefer pcs but there's nothing wrong with that. To each his own right?
I have no problem with the average consumer buying a mac. Its just how people like Emeek or Macward make videos saying the Mac/OSX can do this, PCs and Windows cant, when that is a total fallacy.
dont watch dude. pc guys lie more than i do, saying macs cant right click, or macs cant game blah blah. You think pc users are different? I can show you many links to many pc fanboys BASHING macs for no reason, why are you not on there videos preaching at them to stop the hate and lies? BIAS bastard.
lol, are you a child? Someone had to start, it was of course macs" lol, Macs were the first personal computer. Your telling me its ok for pc guys to bash because ,macs guys bash first? LOLOLOLOLO please give me a link to the site that has this amazing information on who started bashing first? lolololol. Mac was the first pc, everything else is a copy. SO it makes since win pc started bashing first to make people notice them when they first arrived on the scene.
Actually the Amiga was the first in many respects, first obvious one was non linear digital video editing (Toaster for example). Back then the Mac didnt even have color :D The only problem with the Amiga was Commodore. Nobody can deny that the Amiga was way WAY ahead of its time.
Actually Atari beat Apple to it, at least when it comes to the general consumer. Most people in the early 80s that were into PC's started with an Atari 400 or 800, then either stayed with Atari or went to C= for a Vic 20 or C=64 (or 128). Then they either went PC (16 colors) or Mac (black and white), or they upgraded to an Amiga (4096 colors).
Ever since the Mac vs PC ads, Apple switching to Intel from PPCs, etc, trying their best to get the consumer market on their end....yes...Apple and the fanboys started this shit.
LOL, are you kidding? I been using apple since the 80's and I have always ben made fun of for using a mac by pc guys. Dont give me that shit. Getting BASHED by pc guys IS WHY I started doing these vids.
No it is not okay to be wrong, it does not matter how big the following is, I am just saying there is no pc leader, with mindless drones the believe the shit that flies out of his mouth.
Ahh, now i understand. You mean you guys are not organized. There is no figure head? You should nominate someone. Is there a pc fan who consistently makes videos and gets on camera? If so, give him a shout and tell him to represent. We can start internet youtube groups or something. we argue but i still like you guys.
Thers an article on hardocp at the minute, apparently apple now class machines that are in houses that have smokers as warranty voided. A quote from it
The Apple store called and informed me that due to the computer having been used in a house where there was smoking, that has voided the warranty and they refuse to work on the machine, due to "health risks of second hand smoke".
Looks like erics boned if his imac or mac pro get problems :0
Lets see that single machine run dual-link displays with full 2560 x 1600 resolution. That also looks to be using an extra hub to connect them all to because I very much doubt that has 12 GPU's in a single machine.
They make video cards that has quad monitor support. He could have 6 of those. And thats more likely the case since PCs can have 6 PCI slots. I mean Quake3 isnt a high demanding game.
Very very few PC's have 6 16x 2.0 PCI-Express slots. Also check the framerate showing on that image. It looks like 15 fps to me, unless there's a number cut off (doesn't look like that's the case though). Yes there are some cards that have 4 video out but they're expensive and quite rare. Mini DisplayPort can drive several monitors over the same single connection so in theory with a GPU with a DP you could use at least two monitors on one cable. Mac Pro's can use those 4x out cards too btw.
That was the point I was getting accross to someone else. Mac Pro's have 4 FULL LANE PCI Express slots, not one or two. Only SLI/XFire rigs tend to have 2 or more in PC's, most come with one and the rest being regular PCI/PCI-X. A Mac Pro with a GPU that uses DisplayPort can push more than one display per cable too but we just haven't seen any cables that let you do this yet. Give it time and we'll see 2+ full 30" displays running on ONE DisplayPort cable, it's a bright future for the Mac.
You can put SSD's into the iMac if you want. It just means you have to open it up and do it. It's not much more difficult than opening a laptop really. Infact they make it relatively simple for an all-in-one. One issue is that there aren't many 3.5" SSD's, they're almost entirely 2.5" laptop size so you'd need a bracket or something to cradle it inside the bigger space so it isn't loose.
Eric, have you looked into Light Peak? Apparently Apple and Intel have been working together to create an astonishingly fast connection, off the top of my head it was something like 2.3x faster than USB 3.0. I reckon that next year the Light Peak technology will be incorporated into the Mac Pro and become the new "FireWire" - it'll further distinguish the consumer bases.
i think apple missed something with the imac...they really had to put in blue ray with it! it will be probarly next time but this 27" i7 is already amzaing
i think apple should get blu-ray into the machines. i edit high definition video recorded at 720p.
And i use a PC to do this, because i will soon bump up to 1080p, and i find it maddening that a Mac, which is generally best for editing, can't write my video to disc in high definition quality.
It might work with an external blu-ray writer i don't know, but something like that should really be an internal option should the user want it. Perhaps they'd rather people get their HD from itunes
Agreed RenegadeMaster07. By the way, you can use external and internal Blu-ray writers on the Mac Pro, only issue is that you have to boot into Windows (or so I've heard). I'm shocked in a way that Macs DON'T have BluRay as they're targeted at the media enthusiast.
You can get BluRay drives for Macs that come with software to let you burn/read/write them within OSX. Apple just don't offer it as a standard option or "officially supported" because of the rediculous licencing issues behind the tech. It'd require a heavy rewrite of lots of the OS's audio and video API's to ensure its encrypted 100% which reduces performance. Apple dont see the benefits to warrent this drop in performance and extra dev time. Most consumers DONT need BD, if you do it still works
i think this is a good video, because im not a pro consumer but i do want speed and the imacs were ok, but my main excuse for so long was to get a mac pro for the speed, MAINLY, also other things, but ye the imacs deliver for the basic users who want the speed, but i think i would still go mac pro, the multiple screens, multiple hard drives......also eric what about light peak instead of usb 3.0 ?
its weird.lol because the rumours and news say light peak in 2011 and also intel is VERY slow to adopt usb 3.0, i mean why would they bother if they THEMSELVES are developing light peak.lol. but who knows we shall see !
For sure light peak really does seem like a great piece of tech. Really comes in handy uploading videos from camera to computer lol it'll take like half a second!
eric is like obama, he doesnt think for himself and reads a teleprompter, or in erics case he reads a website and spew his shit here, eric do you ever base your opinions off your own experiences?
I think Apple has waited so long to update the Mac Pros, because they are waiting for three things to add to them. Blu-ray, USB 3.0, and Intel Core i7 x2.
No, Blu-Ray cannot be played on OS X due to kernel issues. Blu-Ray requires a DRM infected module to play correctly. OS X does not have this because apple refused it.
i love how so many people bought the i7 imac just to serve the internet lmao

Dust can be blown out. Tar is not dust. You can't just blow it out. It sticks to the insides of the computer and corrodes the components. Its not as simple or as clean as dust and it destroys the connectors on the motherboard and ruins the airflow by adhering permanently to the components.
zoulkyud 2 years ago
lol, im always smoking around my old-ass ibook, and i do repairs mayself because of it being out of warrenty. the only thing the smoke will effect is the outside case. the only way smoke could do anything to the inside, is if it was open. And, even so, it couldent be open long enough to get that much tar. Same things true with my dad's HP. smoke all the time; nothing.
AllAroundBang 2 years ago
yes, these are very rare cases that made it to the media. I dont think its an issue and most smokers never have a problem with a machine. Thats why its not in the warranty, its so rare it wasnt even thought about to be put it.
AppleSoldier 2 years ago
its bullshit, is ford gonna deny my f150 warranty because i took it mudding and got it nasty? you wont see it happen much.
AppleSoldier 2 years ago
@AppleSoldier
Its your fault.
zoulkyud 2 years ago
I agree with you here (even though I dont smoke in my house anymore). This predjudice against smokers is bullshit.
FrankRizzo6662 2 years ago
@AppleSoldier
However if you paid for apple care that is total BS because it should actually cover abuse, likewise with other warranties. I was referring to the factory warranty.
zoulkyud 2 years ago
what we agree on something? WOW. well, teh 1 year warranty apple gives i can understand it not covering, but if i paid for a warranty it better cover it just like ford would cover my f150 if i took it through a puddle of TAR on my government road construction job or smoked inside the cab. Is ford gonna tell me they wont make there employees get in a car that had been smoked in?lol. Im denied due to smoke but that imac in the wood factory covered in saw dust is covered. lol. this is crap.
AppleSoldier 2 years ago
I agree on a lot of things, I just like to kid around. I own macs, have 2 macbooks and two iMacs, also have about 4 PC's. One thing that ticks me off is that many software companies dont offer dual license. For example, ZBrush, I own it on the PC and cannot use it on my Mac without spending another $500+. It's bullshit. BTW, does modo offer dual platform? I want that software bad, but I like dual platforms! At this time, my mac is mainly for iPhone development.
FrankRizzo6662 2 years ago
I HATE THAT SHIT. and its why I love Modo. They license to the user. when you pay them they give you a mac AND pc version. its dumb to charge one you twice and make consumers double dip.
AppleSoldier 2 years ago
modo looks friggin awesome. The only 3D app I own on the Mac is Cheetah, it's not bad but man modo looks like it blows it away. It also looks like modeling in Silo would beat cheetah. Not that Martin does a bad job with Cheetah, it is what it is, but modeling just looks so much easier with modo.
FrankRizzo6662 2 years ago
@kaosum, dude some people just want macs. It doesn't make them stupid, inferior or anything else. It's just what they prefer. Obviously you prefer pcs but there's nothing wrong with that. To each his own right?
Zombiebrainstew 2 years ago 4
I have no problem with the average consumer buying a mac. Its just how people like Emeek or Macward make videos saying the Mac/OSX can do this, PCs and Windows cant, when that is a total fallacy.
kaosum2 2 years ago
dont watch dude. pc guys lie more than i do, saying macs cant right click, or macs cant game blah blah. You think pc users are different? I can show you many links to many pc fanboys BASHING macs for no reason, why are you not on there videos preaching at them to stop the hate and lies? BIAS bastard.
AppleSoldier 2 years ago
PC guys bash Macs, because Mac guys bash PC guys. Somebody had to start the argument.
... and I didn't exactly see Microsoft with any 'Macs suck' ads, until very recently anyway (laptop hunters).
manjyoumethunder 2 years ago
lol, are you a child? Someone had to start, it was of course macs" lol, Macs were the first personal computer. Your telling me its ok for pc guys to bash because ,macs guys bash first? LOLOLOLOLO please give me a link to the site that has this amazing information on who started bashing first? lolololol. Mac was the first pc, everything else is a copy. SO it makes since win pc started bashing first to make people notice them when they first arrived on the scene.
AppleSoldier 2 years ago
Actually the Amiga was the first in many respects, first obvious one was non linear digital video editing (Toaster for example). Back then the Mac didnt even have color :D The only problem with the Amiga was Commodore. Nobody can deny that the Amiga was way WAY ahead of its time.
FrankRizzo6662 2 years ago
oh yea, apple was just the first PC as we know it today.
AppleSoldier 2 years ago
no Apple was not the first. there were many ones before apple.
XXASCII808XX 2 years ago
Wasn't the Xerox Alto the first PC?
TheWMhater 2 years ago
Yes, it was. It was the first computer to feature a graphical user interface. Xerox didn't capitalize on it, though.
manjyoumethunder 2 years ago
Actually Atari beat Apple to it, at least when it comes to the general consumer. Most people in the early 80s that were into PC's started with an Atari 400 or 800, then either stayed with Atari or went to C= for a Vic 20 or C=64 (or 128). Then they either went PC (16 colors) or Mac (black and white), or they upgraded to an Amiga (4096 colors).
FrankRizzo6662 2 years ago
Ever since the Mac vs PC ads, Apple switching to Intel from PPCs, etc, trying their best to get the consumer market on their end....yes...Apple and the fanboys started this shit.
kaosum2 2 years ago
LOL, are you kidding? I been using apple since the 80's and I have always ben made fun of for using a mac by pc guys. Dont give me that shit. Getting BASHED by pc guys IS WHY I started doing these vids.
AppleSoldier 2 years ago
2 wrongs don't make a right emeek. the difference is you have a dumb cult following, the stupid pc fanboys don't.
XXASCII808XX 2 years ago
and that is different why? your making the double standard? its ok for you to do it as long as you don't have a following?
AppleSoldier 2 years ago
No it is not okay to be wrong, it does not matter how big the following is, I am just saying there is no pc leader, with mindless drones the believe the shit that flies out of his mouth.
XXASCII808XX 2 years ago
Ahh, now i understand. You mean you guys are not organized. There is no figure head? You should nominate someone. Is there a pc fan who consistently makes videos and gets on camera? If so, give him a shout and tell him to represent. We can start internet youtube groups or something. we argue but i still like you guys.
AppleSoldier 2 years ago
Heh, according to recent tests, the core i5 gets better scores then the full 8 core.
grayfox106 2 years ago
not according to the test I seen on barefeets and Macworld, dont. The i7 is always 13-30 percent faster. If you like i can make a video proving it.
AppleSoldier 2 years ago
Thers an article on hardocp at the minute, apparently apple now class machines that are in houses that have smokers as warranty voided. A quote from it
The Apple store called and informed me that due to the computer having been used in a house where there was smoking, that has voided the warranty and they refuse to work on the machine, due to "health risks of second hand smoke".
Looks like erics boned if his imac or mac pro get problems :0

You sad that usb 3.0 will come out can tell me when to buy a mac beause i want usb 3.0 in my thanks computer
HackerBoyProducetion 2 years ago
Wow, 8 displays? 4 harddrives? Thats nothing compared to waht a PC can do.
yfrog com / 3smultimonitorj
kaosum2 2 years ago
Lets see that single machine run dual-link displays with full 2560 x 1600 resolution. That also looks to be using an extra hub to connect them all to because I very much doubt that has 12 GPU's in a single machine.
TalesOfWar 2 years ago
They make video cards that has quad monitor support. He could have 6 of those. And thats more likely the case since PCs can have 6 PCI slots. I mean Quake3 isnt a high demanding game.
kaosum2 2 years ago
Very very few PC's have 6 16x 2.0 PCI-Express slots. Also check the framerate showing on that image. It looks like 15 fps to me, unless there's a number cut off (doesn't look like that's the case though). Yes there are some cards that have 4 video out but they're expensive and quite rare. Mini DisplayPort can drive several monitors over the same single connection so in theory with a GPU with a DP you could use at least two monitors on one cable. Mac Pro's can use those 4x out cards too btw.
TalesOfWar 2 years ago
yes all mac pros can use 4 gpu's with dual link on each card meaning you can push 2 displays per card making 8 or use 4 30"s.
AppleSoldier 2 years ago
That was the point I was getting accross to someone else. Mac Pro's have 4 FULL LANE PCI Express slots, not one or two. Only SLI/XFire rigs tend to have 2 or more in PC's, most come with one and the rest being regular PCI/PCI-X. A Mac Pro with a GPU that uses DisplayPort can push more than one display per cable too but we just haven't seen any cables that let you do this yet. Give it time and we'll see 2+ full 30" displays running on ONE DisplayPort cable, it's a bright future for the Mac.

So i7 imac is fast and all, but has almost no features? Oh wow.
johanz128 2 years ago
What "features" does it lack then? It offers far more than any other all-in-one on the market right now.
TalesOfWar 2 years ago
From video's dude it seems that mac pro offers more than imac
johanz128 2 years ago
i think it would be cool if apple allowed two hard drives in the 27" imacs, their big enough
Skutz0r 2 years ago
You might of also liked to metion the iMac has no option for SSD drives. The Mac Pro does.
ljscott1990 2 years ago
You can put SSD's into the iMac if you want. It just means you have to open it up and do it. It's not much more difficult than opening a laptop really. Infact they make it relatively simple for an all-in-one. One issue is that there aren't many 3.5" SSD's, they're almost entirely 2.5" laptop size so you'd need a bracket or something to cradle it inside the bigger space so it isn't loose.
TalesOfWar 2 years ago
Many people, including myself, refuse to buy a new computer right now because we're waiting for USB 3.0 and other great things.
goddesfreackz 2 years ago
I don't know why people would thumbs down this. It is purely logical. Oh wait! There are Mac users here. Logic is out the window.
ljscott1990 2 years ago
what? i wasnt basing pc in this video, just talking macs.
AppleSoldier 2 years ago
what the hell are you talking about? Why did you post this as a reply to me?
goddesfreackz 2 years ago
Eric, have you looked into Light Peak? Apparently Apple and Intel have been working together to create an astonishingly fast connection, off the top of my head it was something like 2.3x faster than USB 3.0. I reckon that next year the Light Peak technology will be incorporated into the Mac Pro and become the new "FireWire" - it'll further distinguish the consumer bases.
christheferal 2 years ago
Yay for -1... lol, I'm not even against or for either operating system... and I get -1 for pointing something out... people are stupid.

im a pc guy and im more of a pc guy but my didter loves macs but she wants blueray i hope u mofos get blueray nxt year all you mac guys cross fingers
chino555 2 years ago
i think apple missed something with the imac...they really had to put in blue ray with it! it will be probarly next time but this 27" i7 is already amzaing
b00nsmoviesss 2 years ago
Apple have made it clear that they are refusing to put blu ray in their macs.
pkerry12 2 years ago
Until software is on blueray disk, I dont think you will be seeing br drives on macs.
IMPMAC 2 years ago
@b00nsmoviesss
What would you need blueray for?
MusicStylez 2 years ago
@MusicStylez some people need BluRay, you shouldn't question why they need it, it's not like they need your approval.
christheferal 2 years ago
i think apple should get blu-ray into the machines. i edit high definition video recorded at 720p.
RenegadeMaster07 2 years ago
Agreed RenegadeMaster07. By the way, you can use external and internal Blu-ray writers on the Mac Pro, only issue is that you have to boot into Windows (or so I've heard). I'm shocked in a way that Macs DON'T have BluRay as they're targeted at the media enthusiast.
christheferal 2 years ago
You can get BluRay drives for Macs that come with software to let you burn/read/write them within OSX. Apple just don't offer it as a standard option or "officially supported" because of the rediculous licencing issues behind the tech. It'd require a heavy rewrite of lots of the OS's audio and video API's to ensure its encrypted 100% which reduces performance. Apple dont see the benefits to warrent this drop in performance and extra dev time. Most consumers DONT need BD, if you do it still works
TalesOfWar 2 years ago
One of your best videos. Well done man.
LewisDre4m 2 years ago
It's kinda a pro level and consumer level machine but more towards consumer. Seems likes a nice machine.
LewisDre4m 2 years ago
i think this is a good video, because im not a pro consumer but i do want speed and the imacs were ok, but my main excuse for so long was to get a mac pro for the speed, MAINLY, also other things, but ye the imacs deliver for the basic users who want the speed, but i think i would still go mac pro, the multiple screens, multiple hard drives......also eric what about light peak instead of usb 3.0 ?
DRBUK 2 years ago
i would think light peak is like 3 years away still, no?
iGreenBerry 2 years ago
its weird.lol because the rumours and news say light peak in 2011 and also intel is VERY slow to adopt usb 3.0, i mean why would they bother if they THEMSELVES are developing light peak.lol. but who knows we shall see !
DRBUK 2 years ago
For sure light peak really does seem like a great piece of tech. Really comes in handy uploading videos from camera to computer lol it'll take like half a second!
iGreenBerry 2 years ago
I'm really liking the 27" i7. But like you, Adrian, I'd still go for the Mac Pro because I have tons of data.
About 3.0 and Light Peak... Maybe 3.0 will become the new standard and Light Peak the new FireWire... or smth like that. Dunno...
goddesfreackz 2 years ago

humantestdummy 2 years ago
I think Apple has waited so long to update the Mac Pros, because they are waiting for three things to add to them. Blu-ray, USB 3.0, and Intel Core i7 x2.
ViciousDave4Life 2 years ago 3
They already have two i7s. 8 cores 16 threads. You're prob right about USB 3.0 though, 2.0 is just to slow.
spiceylawnmower 2 years ago
No, Blu-Ray cannot be played on OS X due to kernel issues. Blu-Ray requires a DRM infected module to play correctly. OS X does not have this because apple refused it.
JamesManes 2 years ago
i think they will place i9 in there not i7x2
ARToneLT 2 years ago
They'll place neither in there, the processors that Apple currently uses are not "i7s", they are Bloomfield based Xeons. There is a difference.
