  • i lived 18 years in lake tahoe and i never knew that Reno had a transit! WOW!

  • Now you know.

  • can i ask a question why does golden empire transit buses not make a rattling idle sound? is it because of cng fuel compared to diesel they have the new flyer and 2 orion models

  • Depends on when I will ride the RTC InterCity express route again.

All three Gillig Phantom buses (492, 493 and 494) were built in 2005 (3 years before the Hayward, CA-based bus builder discontinued it).

It was a good thing that the Washoe County RTC bought three of them when they did.

  • whats wrong with the led lights, i see this problem more and more now

  • It's my camera's frame rate.

There's nothing wrong with the bus itself.

  • ok thanks...........i feel stupid

  • I recently rode on 492 on 04/07/2008, I'm sorry I don't have video of the bus ride. I forgot to bring my camera.

  • And I rode on 492 again on 04/17/2008.

  • And on 04/28/2008 (I have Bus Ride Video) and on 05/08/2008.

  • As well as 09/15/2008.

  • And 09/24/2008

  • It's the frame rate of my digital camera's video recording mode (24 frames per second).

Nothing wrong with the bus itself.

  • OH OK

  • I say C gas plus

  • Nope.

The Gillig Corporation has never built CNG-powered buses, only diesel-powered. The only Washoe County RTC buses that are CNG-powered are the RTC Access ParaTransit Service buses.

  • Just ask the people of RTC what the transmission is. I am placing my bet on Voith D864.3.

  • Right.

  • i bet that bus has an ISL/Allison B400R set up!

  • Don't sound like ISL to me, sounds more like ISM.

  • I'll have to find that out.

  • atleast i was close. the ISM is a step away from the ISL.

  • Ahead of the ISL.

  • According to the woman mechanic for Washoe County RTC that I met on 04/14/2008, the Cummins ISL drive engine is on the Gillig Low Floor buses (plus the ones with Bus Rapid Transit [BRT] styling) with the same Allison B400R transmission.

  • From the idling sound, it's definitely a Cummins ISL.

  • Doesn't sound like the Cummins ISL to me.

    I've checked with a mechanic.

    It's definitely Cummins ISM.

The ISL is used on the low floor buses used by Washoe County RTC.

  • yup we in pittsburgh (patbus) have gilligs with series 50

we have most of all of brands cept rts busses

  • im gonna say ism

  • There is that possibility.

  • Also, I would have to ask an RTC mechanic what the Gillig buses (Phantom [used on the RTC InterCity Route], Advantage Low Floor, Advantage Low Floor with Bus Rapid Transit [BRT] styling, as well as the Gillig Hybrid Low Floor buses) are powered with (I've confirmed that the Gillig Hybrid buses have Cummins ISB with GM/Allison Hybrid Drive).

The newer Washoe County RTC buses are by Gillig (which is in Hayward, California).
