shit...make it out of ply-wood...who cares...its practice...and practice makes perfect..i just glued up 4 bodies out of poplar....heargear...can you give me some tips on how to get the pic ups centered..measurements or any thing....
@richluvsellie; I suggest u make a template and glue two piece of wood and use the glue-line as the center of the whole guitar.. and so even the pickups.
@richluvsellie actually the type of wood your electric guitar is made of doesn't make a difference in sound at all.The amp and pick ups make the most difference in sound. they type of wood you use only affects acoustic guitars.
@dcp10200 My freind, whoever told you that was a complete moron. The type of wood is the basis for your tone. Lighter woods, like ash, tend to give a more light sound, where darker woods like basswood and mahogany give you a warmer tone. There is a reason luthiers spend incredible amounts of money on specific woods, as they give you the basic tone.
@JustSomeRandomNewb mhm well ive played guitars made of may types of wood and the only way that ive noticed a difference is when playing acoustic guitars and by the way the person who told me was a luthier.
@dcp10200 Well, in that case he was wrong. Go ask around, people will all give you the same awnser, that wood does make a difference. I know this for sure, and if you don't want to believe me, thats your problem.
@dcp10200; Well, the type of wood is very important, different type of wood have different type of sustain and durability..so for the last 65 years we have been exploring and still are with type of wood is good for building electric guitars, what we know for sure is that great wood are; Mahogony, Basswod, Ash, Maple, and some more and all those have different characteristics...so YES what type of wood is very importand depending on what type of guitar u are building.
@WILLYthePANCAKE; Dude.. is there a rule that say that its not possible to build a prototype out of pine ? ..... no, thats what i thought... DUDE.. :D
I know for sure this song is by Joe Satriani but I just can't figure out which one. Joe Satriani's guitar playing has it's own voice and it is very distinct from bland pentatonic-based guitar players :/
hey, i'm building a electric guitar for a senior project, and i was stressing over where to get the right size slab of wood, but then i saw you glueing multiple pieces together...i was wondering if there was any special prep-work needed to be done before you glue it and clamp it? or just sand the edges and glue away? thanks in advance!
I love to see people use weird woods like me! iv used Marantie, Jara, Koa And even MDF!!! LoL Iv never tried Pine... What hell i will test it out next time Thanks What other weird woods have you used?
how strong would that be? like the gluing of the wood together. is there a chance of it coming loose? i am thinking of making a guitar and i just wanted to know :D
also like runnymeadproductions said before me. how much would it cost? or cost of a plain guitar with just a basic color paint job. i know this depends on where you get it but its nice to know a base cost before you start getting into it.
@Dead2RiseMusic i built a prototype with no proper finishing for £40 . if you use aliphatic resin carpinter yellow pva wood glue ( or just titebond) its stronger than the wood itself.
i know this probably sounds like an ignorant question but im getting into building guitars... where would i go to get the wood? and how much does it usually cost
@runnymeadproductions it depends alot on the wood . a maple top would be about £30 but it really varies. u can use anything as long as its hard enough. i used a peice of tree.
@HearGear hey! Im making an electric double bass out of pine currently...would you say its a good wood choice? Sound wise? i only have one crack at this you see due to being pennilless :P
@coskunguclu; To make a decent instrument u need Mahogony or Alder or similar.. well... pine will work to.. but its kind of better with at least basswood...
Hi, nice video btw, I have created a concrete guitar, if you have chance please visit my channel, I'm conducting a sound comparison test between my concrete guitar and a solid bodied wooden guitar, and would appreciate as much feedback as possible. Thanks!
how do I do this without as many tools? I can get some sanding PAPER and maybe a router, soldering iron and stuff, but the body isn't my concern, my concern is making the neck :S
@IDanClarkI; To build a neck u will for sure need lots of hand-woodcraft tools, u need a wood router to route for the trussrod... etc.. its not easy to build a guitarneck... give it a try and when u have built about 3-5 necks u will be happy with the result.
Thumbs up to you, looks like a great job so far. Always wanted to build my own but wouldn't know where to start. How did it play when you were finished?
@onlyskateboards Everythings fine, Vevo has the best video quality and organizes music videos by specific artists, Youtube needs advertisements so that it can pay for the website, favorites are limited becuse the space put on a website is limited by the servers backing up the site, Better to have limited favorites than the youtube page crash and lose half the videos, And the yellow subscribe button? honestly i could care less.
Pine eh, let me know how that's working for you. I'm a little skeptical. Got nothing against pine, especially since it's cheap, but I've had poor results because the wood is so soft. The tailpiece studs tend to creep after a while and I've had major issues with the neck joint remaining tight.
@techiins you need to route them, you can probably find a template for pickup cavities somewhere on the internet, if you have a proper template theyre very easy, if you dont, JUST BE CAREFUL!!! :)
it would cost me around £180 to build a guitar and i would sell them at around £350 becuase of all the work ... so gibson guitars are simply pricey just cuz of the logo ... im sure some gibson fans on here will disagree but they make like a 1000 a day so its not like there dear because they make so few is it .
I bought a used gibson explorer a while ago and it came without the back cover plate. I have looked all over the place, but i can't find where to get one. Anyone know where i can buy one or how to make one?

@HearGear yes alder and ash, soft maple, african mahagony , south american mahagony but only a retard canadian would use pine like zachery guitars the nut wants you to apply to buy one of his trash can guitars $ 2500 ca. if i was going to pay good money for a guitar i would buy a ric lennons model or a used moserite or build my own from california black walnut and maple i have a chain saw mill 36 in. all the the best lumber, and dude you can't use pine for the neck it will snap OR DEAD TONES
hi im trying to build a les paul custom but there is one thing i dont know...that is the distance between the pickups (H-H) can anyone give me a clue???

I built a guitar with mahogany and birds eye maple. I am working on another guitar with Spanish cedar body and neck. Bass wood is also great. Alder, and pine are great wood to work with as well so most wood would do just fine
