  • "Build an electric guitar part".....I built some dirt on the fretboard...it's part of the electric guitar.

  • hey man, could you possibly tell me the dimensions of this explorer, i wanna make one at school but dont know the exact measurements? thanks :)

  • är det bättre att ha flera plankor att limma ihop än att ha en hel stor ?

    Tänkte på kroppen alltså

  • so how long did the whole project take, how much did it cost and how would you rate it against a gibson explorer?

  • @Jabslacked; This was only a prototype built out of pine.

  • How big would be a double neck explorer?

  • I was expecting a tutorial...

  • Thanks HearGear :)

  • shit...make it out of ply-wood...who cares...its practice...and practice makes perfect..i just glued up 4 bodies out of poplar....heargear...can you give me some tips on how to get the pic ups centered..measurements or any thing....

  • @richluvsellie; I suggest u make a template and glue two piece of wood and use the glue-line as the center of the whole guitar.. and so even the pickups.

  • @richluvsellie actually the type of wood your electric guitar is made of doesn't make a difference in sound at all.The amp and pick ups make the most difference in sound. they type of wood you use only affects acoustic guitars.

  • @dcp10200 My freind, whoever told you that was a complete moron. The type of wood is the basis for your tone. Lighter woods, like ash, tend to give a more light sound, where darker woods like basswood and mahogany give you a warmer tone. There is a reason luthiers spend incredible amounts of money on specific woods, as they give you the basic tone.

  • @JustSomeRandomNewb mhm well ive played guitars made of may types of wood and the only way that ive noticed a difference is when playing acoustic guitars and by the way the person who told me was a luthier.

  • @dcp10200 Well, in that case he was wrong. Go ask around, people will all give you the same awnser, that wood does make a difference. I know this for sure, and if you don't want to believe me, thats your problem.

  • @dcp10200; Well, the type of wood is very important, different type of wood have different type of sustain and durability..so for the last 65 years we have been exploring and still are with type of wood is good for building electric guitars, what we know for sure is that great wood are; Mahogony, Basswod, Ash, Maple, and some more and all those have different characteristics...so YES what type of wood is very importand depending on what type of guitar u are building.

  • hallo man are you interested to selkl me the piece and i assemble the guitar alone??

if you are interested please can you contact me on my mail thanks

  • You mean AN electric guitar right?

  • hi, where did you get such long blanks?

  • Would you happen to have a pattern for the X-plorer? im making one myself and i really dont want to fuck up :\

  • @bambamsamsh; Its the same pattern as an Epiphone/Gibson explorer.

  • dude please tell me your not using pine?

  • @WILLYthePANCAKE; Dude.. is there a rule that say that its not possible to build a prototype out of pine ? ..... no, thats what i thought... DUDE.. :D

  • @HearGear oh its a prototype, my bad, any way you've got skill man keep up the good work :3

  • @WILLYthePANCAKE; Yes, as it says in the intro of the video.. its a prototype... thanx man.. :D

  • I know for sure this song is by Joe Satriani but I just can't figure out which one. Joe Satriani's guitar playing has it's own voice and it is very distinct from bland pentatonic-based guitar players :/

  • hey, i'm building a electric guitar for a senior project, and i was stressing over where to get the right size slab of wood, but then i saw you glueing multiple pieces together...i was wondering if there was any special prep-work needed to be done before you glue it and clamp it? or just sand the edges and glue away? thanks in advance!

    Steve

  • I love to see people use weird woods like me! iv used Marantie, Jara, Koa And even MDF!!! LoL Iv never tried Pine... What hell i will test it out next time Thanks What other weird woods have you used?

  • how strong would that be? like the gluing of the wood together. is there a chance of it coming loose? i am thinking of making a guitar and i just wanted to know :D

also like runnymeadproductions said before me. how much would it cost? or cost of a plain guitar with just a basic color paint job. i know this depends on where you get it but its nice to know a base cost before you start getting into it.

    Thanks

  • @Dead2RiseMusic i built a prototype with no proper finishing for £40 . if you use aliphatic resin carpinter yellow pva wood glue ( or just titebond) its stronger than the wood itself.

  • Comment removed

  • i know this probably sounds like an ignorant question but im getting into building guitars... where would i go to get the wood? and how much does it usually cost

  • @runnymeadproductions it depends alot on the wood . a maple top would be about £30 but it really varies. u can use anything as long as its hard enough. i used a peice of tree.

  • how come almost every one makes explorors?

  • How does the pine sound. It's not a very common wood used in guitars.

  • @hunterlpdc94; This guitar had a great sound.. after all it was just a prototype..

  • @HearGear hey! Im making an electric double bass out of pine currently...would you say its a good wood choice? Sound wise? i only have one crack at this you see due to being pennilless :P

  • @coskunguclu; To make a decent instrument u need Mahogony or Alder or similar.. well... pine will work to.. but its kind of better with at least basswood...

  • Hi, nice video btw, I have created a concrete guitar, if you have chance please visit my channel, I'm conducting a sound comparison test between my concrete guitar and a solid bodied wooden guitar, and would appreciate as much feedback as possible. Thanks!

  • would this work for making bass?

  • @MeSoHornyMeSoStupid yh of course

  • Beautiful. I love explorers and natural finished guitars.

  • what wood is that? its very bright, but to much grain for alder... swamp ash maybe?

  • @hunchedproductions; This is Pine

  • How thick should the body be? Thanks man.

  • @jmachina25; It should be around 42mm

  • @HearGear Thanks man, i was also wondering what a really lightweight, awesome sounding tonewood is.

  • @jmachina25 1/2'' veneer on 1 3/4 body

  • @HeadGear

how do I do this without as many tools? I can get some sanding PAPER and maybe a router, soldering iron and stuff, but the body isn't my concern, my concern is making the neck :S

  • @IDanClarkI; To build a neck u will for sure need lots of hand-woodcraft tools, u need a wood router to route for the trussrod... etc.. its not easy to build a guitarneck... give it a try and when u have built about 3-5 necks u will be happy with the result.

  • @IDanClarkI i found it quite easy.

i just got a bit of wood a used a flap wheel to shape it .

for the fret board i got the wire of stewmac and used a junior hacksaw and a home made mitre box to cut the slots.

  • why not use a huge piece of mahogany instead of glue 3 pieces?

  • The soundtrack is awesome!!

  • Wood looks like pine.. I hope it's not pine!! O.o

  • Thumbs up to you, looks like a great job so far. Always wanted to build my own but wouldn't know where to start. How did it play when you were finished?

  • what wood is this?

  • @felipeandjason i think it might be alder, but i'm not 100% sure

  • Could you tell me the measures that you used for the guitar body? Please.

  • what kinf of wood is that?

  • @1xDRCx Well true , But i liked the other subscription page it was better

  • what kind of wood did u use

  • would it be possible to make a guitar out of juniper?? please reply

  • Oak would suck on making guitars? I have only oak, just in the right size.

  • what kind of glue did you use on the three elements? and how long did it have to sit before you started to cut out the body? Thanks :)

  • Do you happen to know the dimensions of Gibson's Explorers??? Thanks!

  • Pine eh, let me know how that's working for you. I'm a little skeptical. Got nothing against pine, especially since it's cheap, but I've had poor results because the wood is so soft. The tailpiece studs tend to creep after a while and I've had major issues with the neck joint remaining tight.

  • what wood did you use? im planning to buy 1 2

  • where did you get the dimensions?

  • obviously its pine. i mean he used a jig saw for gods sage

  • Sorry I mean such a light wood

  • What kind of wood is that, it looks like pine, if so how is the sound with suck a light wood.

  • could you tell me how'd u make the pickups cavities?

  • @techiins you need to route them, you can probably find a template for pickup cavities somewhere on the internet, if you have a proper template theyre very easy, if you dont, JUST BE CAREFUL!!! :)

  • Thnks man now i can tell everybody i know that gibson is so expansive is becouse of that loge 5 star

  • how much does the whole building of an electric guitar cost for meterials

    ?

than i can find uot why gibson guitars are so expansive

  • @guitarherofreak161

it would cost me around £180 to build a guitar and i would sell them at around £350 becuase of all the work ... so gibson guitars are simply pricey just cuz of the logo ... im sure some gibson fans on here will disagree but they make like a 1000 a day so its not like there dear because they make so few is it .

  • what song is this ?

  • this is more helpfull than the village sexpert

  • bad ass

  • is it me or do every guitar building has the same type of song

  • har precis byggt en Strata och jag tror att jag ska ge mig på en explorer nu :P

  • AWESOME

  • the body kind of looks like a iceman, but the edges are different

  • I would chose other kind of wood.

  • Hey dude what kind of wood did you use??

  • @ElVelVetGuns

    Its pine it looks like.

  • Could you show how to do all the wiring and stuff please. Where do you put the all the wires for the pickups and volume controls ?

  • What did you use to bond the pieces of wood together?

  • dude can u send me the template for it please

  • @techiins, I dont have a template for this body, but its exactly the same as Gibson and Epiphone Explorer.

  • @HearGear oh ok but could u tell me how far the neck and the brige has to be?

  • @HearGear then can u send me that template pls

  • @HearGear and also whats the distance from the nut to the bridge?

  • I bought a used gibson explorer a while ago and it came without the back cover plate. I have looked all over the place, but i can't find where to get one. Anyone know where i can buy one or how to make one?

  • Is there any change that the glue wares off ?

  • what did you use to round the edges of the guitar?

  • @sthrnynky7, I used a router ....

  • @HearGear what type of bit did you use?

  • @sthrnynky7 so do u have any other temples ?

    thnxx in advance :)

  • @sadismminds i think you asked the wrong person.

  • this is in relation with your neck build video, how did you get the scale right for the fretts, how did you cut the fret cavities and the truss rod cavity, anddo you have any idea what the scale would be if i were going to build a 24 fret guitar w/ floyd rose, which i am

  • I wonder if mahagony would be good for guitars. I have some of it.

  • @brianwurst1234 , Most gibson guitars are made of Mahagony... and lots of other guitars to..

  • @HearGear mahogany and other heavy hard woods provide the "best" tone as it has a deep and warm tone

  • @HearGear yes alder and ash, soft maple, african mahagony , south american mahagony but only a retard canadian would use pine like zachery guitars the nut wants you to apply to buy one of his trash can guitars $ 2500 ca. if i was going to pay good money for a guitar i would buy a ric lennons model or a used moserite or build my own from california black walnut and maple i have a chain saw mill 36 in. all the the best lumber, and dude you can't use pine for the neck it will snap OR DEAD TONES

  • @brianwurst1234 mahogany is probably the best wood for making guitars because it has a nice deep tone and very nice sustain

  • @brianwurst1234 mahogany is known to be the best tone wood..its a warmer sounding wood so yes..however before painting..u will need to fill the grain

  • mohogany is what the good guitars are made of!

  • hey!! do you have the plans??? could you send them to me if you do?

  • hi im trying to build a les paul custom but there is one thing i dont know...that is the distance between the pickups (H-H) can anyone give me a clue???

  • The distance between the pickups is not very important, the most important is that u have the bridge and the neck in the right place, and when u have that its more easy to know where the pickups should be.

  • Hey man can you send me the instructions to do that? and how much did all that cost u if i may ask?

  • name of the song?

  • i have built a strat out of alder and a explorer out of basswood and am working on a telecaster in african mahogany

  • very nice lesson! what is this song? the tone/style sounds similar to Joe Satriani!

  • helow!

i will build this guitar but i don't find the planes.

do you know I can obtain them ?

    (i'm from spain)

    thanks!

  • From what tree i can make electric bodys plz pm me all .

  • I built a guitar with mahogany and birds eye maple. I am working on another guitar with Spanish cedar body and neck. Bass wood is also great. Alder, and pine are great wood to work with as well so most wood would do just fine

  • use alder or ash

  • wikipedia "tonewoods"

  • thats cool, but why is it pine? I think alder sounds much better, is also easy to work with, and is not very expensive at all

  • mahangony

  • oh Thats what it is

  • i like the sound u get from mahogany but sadly i don't own a guitar with that wood but i have demoed an esp ex and i hope to get one next year

  • Nice. Check out my vid of the guitar I just built. Its alder and Brazilian Rosewood!

  • how did you find the exact size of the guitar?

  • The measurements of this explorer is the same as Gibson/Epiphone Explorer.

  • Danelectro doesn't make guiatrs out of plywood.

Pine, on the other hand makes a good sounding guitar Downside it it can get damaged easily.

  • that looks like timber egh whats he doing (if it is) making it out of soft wood

  • prototype..!!

  • haha yeah right.

  • Haha, yeah, right. Fucking look at Danelectro. Silvertone.

Now piss off, you ignorant cunt.

  • One of the best guitars ever made? haha yeah right. They're made with plywood NOW back in the day the originals were made out of pinewood. If you can get your hands on an original, good for you, if not, stfu

    Tosser

  • Plywood isn't a fucking TYPE of wood, you FUCKING retard. It's layers of wood laminated together. Most of the Danos are and have always been made out of plywood, with the exception of the Hornet. The plywood is most likely pine, yeah, but still, you fucking dumbass, it's PLYWOOD. Look it the FUCK up and stop being a retard.

  • Mug, I never said it was a type of wood. You aint gonna get the same sound out of plywood as you would out of solid pine, regardless of what wood is used, its a cheaper alternative thats all. Do your research before acting all hard man on the net.

  • Dude, Danos have always been plywood. Plywood frame, Masonite binding. I've done my research, because I wanted an original 1959 DC.

  • what sort of wood is that

  • can you send me the deminsion of the exploere i need it i would like to build someone but i dont know the deminsion

  • asbra fortsätt me de här ska köpa en byggsats snart tror ja :D

  • Fan vad nice ;D
