Amazing performance! You rarely hear about Percy Grainger today. He was a member of a generation that included so many great pianists...I think the time period in which Grainger lived was a high point or pinnacle for classical piano...in terms of the number of great pianists that were actively performing then and the wide popularity of classical piano (and classical music in general). Today, it seems that it's mostly people over 70 who appreciate this music.
@bigcity233 check my page out. I have several recordings of Grainger pieces. I am on a mission to record as many Grainger pieces as possible. I am obsessed with the man, the music and the pianist. I have every Grainger recording available and this man was a genius. What a brilliant mind!
The first pianist to record this horrendously difficult piece and it remains my favorite recording. The athleticism of his playing is without peer and the music is presented in a straight-forward and unpretentious manner and the last movement has a blood-curdling intensity that is overwhelming and awe-inspiring. This made my day. Straight to the favorites this will go. TY Beckmesser!
Of course, Mssrs. Schonberg and Bird are absolutely on point. But one need not be told this, one needs only to listen to this great pianistic artist to know the talent and spirit therein. Beyond these qualities, he was also a unique and idiosyncratic personality. These recordings are an essential and invaluable contribution to the art of piano. Bravo Mr. Grainger, and thank you.
Merci de tout coeur pour ce magnifique TRÉSOR!!! Comme c' est bon d' entendre ce Chopin profond et passionné, humain; l' âme de Chopin... Quel merveilleux interprète, que j' espère retrouver!!! Encore MERCI !!!
