  • The reset is not needed for toner cartridges that you bought at a store. But the toner cartridge that first comes WITH the printer when you buy a new printer, which is called a "starter cartridge" has a gear which needs to be replaced in order for printer to recognize it as full.

  • Well..Don't you have to reset toner ?. I refilled my toner but still it is keep telling me that Toner is low and it will not print. Printer keep showing the red light on brother HL-5370DW

  • All should know that the PLUG is very hard to remove, and usually gets damaged when you remove it. I need to find replacements for the cap. IT is not as easy as seen on this video. Please sell the caps along with the toners, and you have a deal on my end. I want to save money.

  • Not quite so. The Brother machine has a physical screw drive that knows when the toner is out or low. So you can fill it up, but it still will not work. Also you should shake out all the old toner, and vacuum out if you can. That way the new toner you put in is not made lower quality. I have NOT figured out how to reset the screw to make the printer think its a new toner cart.

  • @slevinenp Hi there. It depends on the model of Brother cartridge you are refilling. What you are referring to is what is known as a "reset gear", which is found typically in starter brother toner cartridges (the cartridges that first come with the printer when you buy them). Some starter cartridges have the reset gear, and so replacing the reset gear (small, inexpensive part that is easy to change) will avoid this. Let us know what model you are referring to and will advise you specifically

  • My printer is the Brother HL5370DW and the cart I use are the TN-650 $99.99 at Costco. Seems like the reset gear could just be moved back to the beginning, but I have had no success doing so. Print looks rotten, with streaks and toning on the entire page. I think the reset needs to be in an exact spot, but how to get it to that spot is one of those cosmic questions that needs answering. Please help me out !
