When a bear looses fear of humans they become very dangerous. In US Colorado a woman was killed and eaten by the bears she had been feeding. She had been warned numerous times that it would be bad for the bears. Well now she is dead and so are the bears.

WTF why not put it in a reserve then? I understand that it's a danger in the city, but thats no excuse to kill it. Here in Florida alligators are found in peoples backyards all the time, but at least we throw them back in the everglades if they're small. That's horrible of them to euthanize the bear.
xnayla, there are no reserves for black bears because their population is very high and dense here. Relocation does not work anyway, as I said. It results in the relocated bear getting killed by the local bears, or it returns to the nearest human food source. They do relocate most grizzlies, as we do have a grizzly bear reserve up north and problem grizzlies are rare. There are studies that say running bears with trained dogs scares some bad enough to stay away, as a non-lethal option.
kitimat is full of bears and i was talking to 1 police man here.. they sometimes use shot guns on these things but kitimat is full of bears and this happens all the time
What reserve? This is BC there's no fucking reserve, just 99% of the province to live in. It will wander back and now knows how to open doors and where the food's at. Relocated bears either get killed by surrounding bears, starve, or come back to town.

WTF why not put it in a reserve then? I understand that it's a danger in the city, but thats no excuse to kill it. Here in Florida alligators are found in peoples backyards all the time, but at least we throw them back in the everglades if they're small. That's horrible of them to euthanize the bear.

xnayla, there are no reserves for black bears because their population is very high and dense here. Relocation does not work anyway, as I said. It results in the relocated bear getting killed by the local bears, or it returns to the nearest human food source. They do relocate most grizzlies, as we do have a grizzly bear reserve up north and problem grizzlies are rare. There are studies that say running bears with trained dogs scares some bad enough to stay away, as a non-lethal option.

What reserve? This is BC there's no fucking reserve, just 99% of the province to live in. It will wander back and now knows how to open doors and where the food's at. Imagine if that bear had wandered in and trapped a family of 4 on the way to school. You must euthanize bears when they get too comfortable, it's sad but necessary.

BiggPoppaCMoney is right. People who do not live in this region underestimate the dangers of bears that have lost their fear of humans. It is a shame they must be killed, but if they are not killed, one day they might maul someone right in town - and it could be you or your child. It is not the bear's fault, as they are only trying to find easy food, but humans and bears live in close proximity up here. Relocated bears either get killed by surrounding bears, starve, or come back to town.

Just to elaborate for you: I am not saying I agree with the approach, but they are only concerned with HUMAN lives. Bears kill people up here, and if you lived up here you might actually get a taste of why they resort to such drastic and unfair measures, So gimme a thumbs down all you want. I am only speaking the truth as seen from a frontrow perspective. Personally I like animals more than people and would rather see a man shot than a bear, but they do not do it that way

I will most likely get a bunch of posts back telling me this that and the other thing about how much of a shitpiece I am but I live in Kitimat. The method of dealing witht the bears here has always been for them to be shot when they start coming into town. I moved here 2 and a half years ago and had never seen a bear other than on TV , and that same week they shot a mother and two cubs for coming into town. If they do not shoot them, people get attacked. Sad but true.

That's extremely excessive, they should of relocated like most rangers do. If the bear had a history of doing it and being relocated then it would be justifiable. Bear are lazy, they do this all the time. Bear do alot worse around here and get away from it.
