Once cars get modified it is ignorant to compare them as representatives of the manufacturor's product! Corvette, for example, is not even design to be a drag racer. It has almost a 50/50 weight balance because it is designed for handling & stability, The light rear end makes for a very tough launch. If the mustang had equal power as the vette, it is possible that it would win the 1/4 mile due to better launch, but top speed, handling, etc. ... its really no contest, superior vette wins.

I don't see why real sport car fans like Mustangs so much? You can't make 2 turns from home without seeing one. Too many people have Mustangs. I know a guy that loves them all the way back to the Fastback. He says he beat the Vette, but every time I seen him race, he lost to the Vette. I'd be more into a Vette or Viper , but I'm sure someone will say the Mustang beat those too? All I can say is at least they turn heads riding slow. Tuner is defined as a self-modded car that is set to user-specific specs. You don't "tune" a lingenfelter or a Hennesey. They are tuned professionally to proven standards. You'll note that the S7 Competition wasn't there either ;) And the S7 isn't coming anywhere NEAR 1.97 sec 0-60 times. So go away, you're getting fairly boring now.

WOW, you are insolent. Saleen didn't compete because... it couldn't?? Hennesey and Lingenfelters are no more tuner cars than Saleens. They are all equipped with production kits designed specifically for them. They aren't "tuners" because they aren't works in progress. They are certified, street-legal, production kit cars. The only difference is that Saleens are sold out of Ford Showrooms. They are still Ford Mustangs "tuned" by Saleen.
Oh, and "tuned by Saleen" applies to the S7 too. It's nothing but a Saleen-"tuned" ford big block. BTW The Lingenfelter was named "fastest car ever tested" by Motortrend. They tested the S7, I think that qualifies the vette as being faster. ;)
I don't think S7s are running 0-60 in 1.96 sec OR the 1/4 in the 9 sec range. BTW that was acheived by the C5 LS1 Lingenfelter! The Blue Devil is expected to be the fastest production car EVER produced. Even faster than the almighty Veyron. So impress someone else kid. Oh yeah, plus the S7 costs about 3 times as much as a C5 Lingenfelter, so I'm assuming a C6 Lingenfelter would also be MUCH cheaper than the S7 and kick it's ass even worse. ;)

The point with the Syclone was that it was a decade older than the Cobra. AWD or not, it still had much less horsepower than the Cobra (110 less actually). If anything, the AWD came at a disadvantage to the Syclone because it drained twice as much power. And my 1/4 mile times are just fine thank you.
Those weren't tuner cars! They were specialty cars JUST LIKE SALEENS. However, I didn't see any SALEENS in the shootout. And Mustangs DO NOT RUN in the GTS Races. If they do, I guess I never see them because they're always in the back of the pack. I'm pretty sure they don't run though..

OR.. you could buy a BASE C6 for $55K and smoke a $50K supercharged Cobra for an extra $5K. Also, I don't think you could build a C6 ZO6 killer for $35K. At least not one that will have any endurance or be street-legal. And you could prob build one to beat it in quarter mile. But in any other arena, it just isn't possible.

So I'd say, the Mustang is a great start for anyone on a tight budget seeking a project car with good performance. But if you have the money to spend on a Corvette, it's faster out of the showroom, handles better on the track, and comes with a warrantee not found in most modded Mustangs.
Except that the Corvette would run circles around a modded Mustang on a circuit track and acheive twice the gas mileage a Mustang would get on the way to and from the track. Plus it retains a factory warrantee in case anything goes wrong!
Not when you also consider that the you can simply add another $4-5K ($2,000 bolt on = dumbass' car in video) to the ZO6 and completely destroy any Mustang with the same mods.

Corvette is lighter and has great torque. Mustang is less expensive, heavier and hense; slower. Both fun cars. Are you an engineer at GM? The displacement arguement, superchargers make up for cubic inch. Boost allows you to cram more air and fuel into the combustion chamber making up for the lack of cubic inch. So thats that.

No, it's not shifting the rear end instead of the trans. The diff and the trans are still separate, they are just bolted together. It's just moving the trans rearward in the car for better wieght distribution. I can add a blower a lot easier than you you can fix your wieght problem.

The Cobra driver had just bought the car. It was running on bald DRs at the time. Also he didn't want to break it the first night out with it. The car puts 600+ to the wheels. On a stock IRS, that's great for breaking parts if you drive it like you stole it. But rest assured, the guy can drive. This vid really wasn't posted to show off his driving abilities. I'll see if I can dig up a run or two of him in his fox body to accent those.

This is from the same person that said the corvette was the first muscle car. Why can't anyone respect both machines since they don't compete against one another stock in any way...New Z06 is 70000. A used 2003-2004 Mustang SVT Cobra like that one is 25-30 k used... but that one had a few thousand in mods also. Cobras one of the only cars under 30 k that can even dream of catching a Zo6. Solid race, good job Cobra.

Tuner is defined as a self-modded car that is set to user-specific specs. You don't "tune" a lingenfelter or a Hennesey. They are tuned professionally to proven standards. You'll note that the S7 Competition wasn't there either ;) And the S7 isn't coming anywhere NEAR 1.97 sec 0-60 times. So go away, you're getting fairly boring now.

WOW, you are insolent. Saleen didn't compete because... it couldn't?? Hennesey and Lingenfelters are no more tuner cars than Saleens. They are all equipped with production kits designed specifically for them. They aren't "tuners" because they aren't works in progress. They are certified, street-legal, production kit cars. The only difference is that Saleens are sold out of Ford Showrooms. They are still Ford Mustangs "tuned" by Saleen.

Oh, and "tuned by Saleen" applies to the S7 too. It's nothing but a Saleen-"tuned" ford big block. BTW The Lingenfelter was named "fastest car ever tested" by Motortrend. They tested the S7, I think that qualifies the vette as being faster. ;)

I don't think S7s are running 0-60 in 1.96 sec OR the 1/4 in the 9 sec range. BTW that was acheived by the C5 LS1 Lingenfelter! The Blue Devil is expected to be the fastest production car EVER produced. Even faster than the almighty Veyron. So impress someone else kid. Oh yeah, plus the S7 costs about 3 times as much as a C5 Lingenfelter, so I'm assuming a C6 Lingenfelter would also be MUCH cheaper than the S7 and kick it's ass even worse. ;)

The point with the Syclone was that it was a decade older than the Cobra. AWD or not, it still had much less horsepower than the Cobra (110 less actually). If anything, the AWD came at a disadvantage to the Syclone because it drained twice as much power. And my 1/4 mile times are just fine thank you.

Those weren't tuner cars! They were specialty cars JUST LIKE SALEENS. However, I didn't see any SALEENS in the shootout. And Mustangs DO NOT RUN in the GTS Races. If they do, I guess I never see them because they're always in the back of the pack. I'm pretty sure they don't run though..

If we're going to compare Corvette performance and Mustang performance toe to toe, we could argue all day. A stock vette beats a stock mustang. The ZO6 beats the Cobra. The Bluedevil will beat any Saleen EVER made. Sure it costs more. That's because you are GETTING MORE. Mustangs have never handled for shit and they never will. The only thing a Mustang can come close to a vette in is acceleration, and it doesn't even stack up there.

Just remember, anything you do to a Mustang can also be done to a Corvette. And when all is said and done, the Corvette beats the Mustang in capacity for power and handling. The only way you could build a Mustang with more potential than a Vette is to completely re-engineer it from the ground up.

OR.. you could buy a BASE C6 for $55K and smoke a $50K supercharged Cobra for an extra $5K. Also, I don't think you could build a C6 ZO6 killer for $35K. At least not one that will have any endurance or be street-legal. And you could prob build one to beat it in quarter mile. But in any other arena, it just isn't possible.

So I'd say, the Mustang is a great start for anyone on a tight budget seeking a project car with good performance. But if you have the money to spend on a Corvette, it's faster out of the showroom, handles better on the track, and comes with a warrantee not found in most modded Mustangs.

;\ Actually Cobras were going for around $45K. Vette's are around $53K, so not to much of a price difference for what you get over a Cobra. It would cost about that much to make a Cobra Corvette-fast. ;] Besides, the Cobra is meant more for the 1/4 than the Vette anyways. The corvette smoked the Cobra straight up in a Cobra environment.

The Ford GT is not in the same class as a Vette. A C6 Z06 maybe in the same class as a GT... But not a regular C6.
And I would hope a car costing more than double a C6 could handle up on it. If not, Ford needs to head back to the drawing board.

99 cobra N/A 320HP 4.6L vs 01 c6 5.7L HP ford and chevy both make 70 hp per liter. Not bad. 03 cobra 85hp per liter. GOOD. 06 ZO6 7L 505HP= 72HP per liter. not bad. Corvette is lighter and has great torque. Mustang is less expensive, heavier and hense; slower. Both fun cars. Are you an engineer at GM? Check out that Evolution performance GT500. 9 second BPU car for under 50k, cool hua! 5.4L

The displacement arguement, superchargers make up for cubic inch. Boost allows you to cram more air and fuel into the combustion chamber making up for the lack of cubic inch. So thats that.

No, it's not shifting the rear end instead of the trans. The diff and the trans are still separate, they are just bolted together. It's just moving the trans rearward in the car for better wieght distribution. I can add a blower a lot easier than you you can fix your wieght problem.

The Cobra driver had just bought the car. It was running on bald DRs at the time. Also he didn't want to break it the first night out with it. The car puts 600+ to the wheels. On a stock IRS, that's great for breaking parts if you drive it like you stole it. But rest assured, the guy can drive. This vid really wasn't posted to show off his driving abilities. I'll see if I can dig up a run or two of him in his fox body to accent those.
