"Oh man, I play stepmania and I'm faster than this guy doing thousands of button presses at 200bpm"
NO FUCK THAT SHIT. I used to be an avid DDR/ITG/SM player, playing the craziest of songs. I played crazy songs on SM using spread and indexing. I started playing IIDX when I saw it at my arcade around February...
SHIT KICKED MY ASS SO HARD. I barley got into 9's recently, but Mei on another is a whole other story. fuck mei. So all you SM players underestimating IIDX better check your shit. Srsly
P.S. I would like to add, if those cocky SM players think that they are so much better than some tatsujins on the internet, where is your vid?
p.p.s. first comment about his rival, I just realized, the red line is not really a set rival, it's the nation's highest @_@ 3690, his is 3613.... wow...
@pokemonranger21 just did a little research, yes that is EBIFLY, 2nd place in the first Bemani Cup IIDX Department (1st place is SILVER *FINE, from what I know is that guy retired at the competition), he is also LIFULL in DJ Trooper
the death zone from 1:35-1:43, which when in IIDX 14th Style, that song only has 22% clear-rate when it's played in hard because of this part. 8 out of 10 player would fail, even internet rankers
3. SM players have underestimated the difficulty of IIDX too damn much, try anything lvl 11 or above without autoscratch and tell me SM is way harder, having a turntable makes a world of difference.
I think those SM players misunderstood something that was shown in this Vid since apparently none of them know what's going on:
1. this song is Mei Another (one of the hardest song on BM, among the top 3) done in Random, he bagged it with AAA, and not far from his Rival's (possibly an internet ranker) score neither.
2. This is done in Hard (HP depicts, one single note miss drops 10% in HP shown in 01:24 and it's instant game over when it reaches zero), this is especially hard on Mei cause....
You guys have no idea what Mei another is about until you play it :P
I bet half of those jackasses who think this is not hard enough doesn't even know how difficult hard guage option is and never tried playing IIDX before
Even if this is a rhythm game, you can't compare it to Guitar Hero or, say, Rock Band. Completely different games with different gameplay style and audience.
@xDnoon I think I do understand. You play these games so you feel offended when I say this guy would be great playing an instrument since you believe that correlates to me saying this game is a waste of time. On the contrary, I play these games too and enjoy them... I just also play an instrument and felt this guy could do the same and would be great if he was as dedicated to it as he is to this game. =) No hard feelings I hope. Touhou is awesome too btw.
Of course IIDX players know what jackhammers are why I own an actual jackhammer itself that vibrates very quickly to break concrete (speed in its purest form). I think if I got my jackhammer to play IIDX it would be better than DOLCE in a week since all you need to AAA Mei is the ability to vibrate very fast. My name is MinaciousGrace and I'm a fucking moron.
Stepmania does not have a turntable, and the same 4 fingers are not on the same 4 buttons throughtout the whole play through. I honestly don't see comparing the BPM shows the difficulty of the song... it's not like you're not using a Speed modifier anyways.
True you may be faster, but this guy has better timing/reading ability. If he put his time (unwisely) into SM he would stomp everyone flat. TPS doesn't mean much compared to the technical skill this requires
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
uhh no he wouldn't, apparently you don't understand what real technical skill is
Say for example we both decided to switch games, I would have to adjust my reading and muscle memory but the game would seem slow because the fastest stuff you play on IIDX is less than HALF the bpm of what you would play in upper tier SM. I just have to bring more fingers into play, and while he may not have to improve reading or timing he has to improve his PHYSICAL speed, something which takes YEARS to develop
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I mean I could invent a rhythm game that has 15 keys and forces you to hit within a 10ms timing window and call it the hardest game in the world but the fact of the matter is it wouldn't be hard if you're only hitting one note per second
And I take back what I said, that dude would have to improve his reading, the difference between comfortably reading 200 bpm 16th bracketing across 8 keys and 300 bpm 16th jumpstream across 4 is incomprehensibly vast to someone like you
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I should make an IIDX conversion chart for blue planet to really drill the difference in skill into your heads, you think 200 bpm bracketing is fast? Have fun with 294 bpm bracketing oh did I mention the jacks? Do IIDX players even know what a jack is?
Underlying point being that if we switched games it would take him many times longer to reach my skill on SM than it would take me to reach his skill on IIDX and if you throw money on the table I'd be willing to do it
He will have to learn a few combinations. Get some huge underarms to drill on 1 spot and not move his fingers from the keys. Thats not so hard... now is it? =)))
Possible combination of button presses for SM is 15 (2^4 - 1), for IIDX it's 255. Then there's all the permutations of how notes flow into each other.
I mean of course there's a lot of muscle memory involved in both, but there's definitely a lot more improv in IIDX. That's true skill: thinking on the spot. All you've developed are fast fingers that react to the same shit over and over. You're nothing special. Anyone with enough time could do what you do.
@JFlash7 With that logic anyone with enough time could be amazing at anything, but that isn't true at all. Both games require both muscle memory, reaction speed, practice, etc. To say that becoming very good at either is not "special" is just horseshit.
This is Beatmania IIDX , one of the best Rythm Game ever created , and probably the hardest one. This game own every commercial games like Guitar Hero , and is already better that every game that will be out in the next months ...
First off, it's a Japanese game (primarily on PS2) so you'll need a Japanese or a modded console to play them at all. You can pirate the discs if you don't want to pay hundreds for them all. Controllers range from lower-quality ones at around $50-100 or high end ones up to $500 or more.
Or you can just get a simulator (like Lunatic Rave 2) and download the song files and play it with your keyboard on PC (or a controller if you use an adapter).
I thought right handed players are at there best P1 side... So that there right hand can cover the most button's, instead of just the scratch and 2/3.
A lot the great IIDX players have been playing since the old 5 key days where you didn't have the option to left hand scratch at all so they got used to that and just got used to playing 7 keys with the right hand scratch. There are a few good players that play 1P side but i just can't remember any off the top of my head.
Was there not an option on the old Beatmania machines that let you play across the controller so you could use the turntable on the left side? Pretty sure this was possible, although it was a not-so-obvious cheat.
There was but that wasn't around until like 6th mix (not entirely sure on when, but it is a relatively new thing in 5 key). what i was saying was they were playing since like 2nd mix where center play wasn't even thought of.
please, there are things in SM that rival this for difficulty :P it's just not the same kind of difficulty when you're making charts with half as many columns
that SM doesn't rival IIDX difficulty ever, that files in SM can't rival the difficulty of IIDX files even in theory, or that it's not a different kind of difficulty? o.O
And there are certainly even HARDER charts than that for SM, but those players play more for endurance and speed than accuracy (despite having almost godlike accuracy already).
1) StepMania's timing windows are lax as hell. IIDX Defaults are roughly equal to Judge 6.5 on Stepmania. (and let's not even bother with Gambol [A])
2) IIDX has more possible note patterns, it's essentially playing Spread and Three Quarters, not to mention the TT.
3) The StepMania lifebar is more (significantly) relaxed than IIDX's Hard Clear bar (And I'm fairly sure that it's still more strict with Rise/Fall on Normal)
Because you obviously can never do anything like this in your life. You probably suck at everything that involves rhythm and complains about it being lame. You probably call everything you suck at lame. Such as your intelligence.
..What? What the hell does that ratio even mean? You're just one nerd with a biased opinion who will never have anything constructive to do with their life; a fanboy of popular games that make nothing but ignorant OO LOOK AT ME IM SO GEWD AT THIS ROCKSTAR EXPURT COLOR BUTTON GAME teenagers that don't know what a real music game is all about. Guitar Hero is boring as fuck and the only people who praise it while bashing other, real music games should have never started a music game hobby.
Most of them are on California, other than that only other places I can think of are A Distorted in South Florida, Tokyo Game Action, and that's about it (8 on the break maybe?)
This game isn't anything like Guitar Hero. Guitar Hero is crap compared to IIDX or pretty much any Bemani game for that matter. Not enough time and effort was put in to Guitar Hero to make it truly challenging like this.
Are you kidding? Plenty of Americans play IIDX. It's just that most Americans don't understand what the hell goes on in IIDX rather than looking at a plastic color-coded guitar which anyone can relate to. Just because you (not you specifically, generally speaking) can't play it doesn't mean the game sucks.
Hi I'm not a japanophile, I hate most j-pop, j-rock, and anime
I play IIDX because it's fun and the music is good, and it's pretty difficult so it doesn't get boring like most games do, from platformers like Donkey Kong Country 2, to stealth games like Metal Gear Solid 3, to weird shit like We Love Katamari

They made a IIDX for Ps2 in america, but it sucked and the sales didin't do too well because of lack of familiariztion.
P.S:Did they have 2 IIDX machines there?
raSenSyntax 3 years ago
I'm possibly the only person in maine who knows about IIDX.

First thing that comes to peoples mind when they see Bemani games: Guitar Hero.
thmatts 4 years ago
Yeah and that's why real music gamers hate US music gamers.

i wish there was alot more IIDX machines in North America
Elemenopee129 4 years ago 4
Most of them are on California, other than that only other places I can think of are A Distorted in South Florida, Tokyo Game Action, and that's about it (8 on the break maybe?)

thats like guitar hero on drugs. with a little steriods
taysnay1 4 years ago
This game isn't anything like Guitar Hero. Guitar Hero is crap compared to IIDX or pretty much any Bemani game for that matter. Not enough time and effort was put in to Guitar Hero to make it truly challenging like this.

Or possibly it was made so that almost anyone could play it instead of a few hundred japanophiles?
durgoc 4 years ago
Are you kidding? Plenty of Americans play IIDX. It's just that most Americans don't understand what the hell goes on in IIDX rather than looking at a plastic color-coded guitar which anyone can relate to. Just because you (not you specifically, generally speaking) can't play it doesn't mean the game sucks.

dude your name is from chrono cross, right

Hi I'm not a japanophile, I hate most j-pop, j-rock, and anime
I play IIDX because it's fun and the music is good, and it's pretty difficult so it doesn't get boring like most games do, from platformers like Donkey Kong Country 2, to stealth games like Metal Gear Solid 3, to weird shit like We Love Katamari
if that makes me a japanophile then whatever :>
