I think those SM players misunderstood something that was shown in this Vid since apparently none of them know what's going on:

1. this song is Mei Another (one of the hardest song on BM, among the top 3) done in Random, he bagged it with AAA, and not far from his Rival's (possibly an internet ranker) score neither.

2. This is done in Hard (HP depicts, one single note miss drops 10% in HP shown in 01:24 and it's instant game over when it reaches zero), this is especially hard on Mei cause....

Of course IIDX players know what jackhammers are why I own an actual jackhammer itself that vibrates very quickly to break concrete (speed in its purest form). I think if I got my jackhammer to play IIDX it would be better than DOLCE in a week since all you need to AAA Mei is the ability to vibrate very fast. I just have to bring more fingers into play, and while he may not have to improve reading or timing he has to improve his PHYSICAL speed, something which takes YEARS to develop

Possible combination of button presses for SM is 15 (2^4 - 1), for IIDX it's 255. Then there's all the permutations of how notes flow into each other.

I mean of course there's a lot of muscle memory involved in both, but there's definitely a lot more improv in IIDX. That's true skill: thinking on the spot. All you've developed are fast fingers that react to the same shit over and over. You're nothing special. Anyone with enough time could do what you do.

...Depends on what method you want to play it.

First off, it's a Japanese game (primarily on PS2) so you'll need a Japanese or a modded console to play them at all. You can pirate the discs if you don't want to pay hundreds for them all. Controllers range from lower-quality ones at around $50-100 or high end ones up to $500 or more.

Or you can just get a simulator (like Lunatic Rave 2) and download the song files and play it with your keyboard on PC (or a controller if you use an adapter).

A lot the great IIDX players have been playing since the old 5 key days where you didn't have the option to left hand scratch at all so they got used to that and just got used to playing 7 keys with the right hand scratch. There are a few good players that play 1P side but i just can't remember any off the top of my head.

IIDX is harder than StepMania, hands down.

1) StepMania's timing windows are lax as hell. IIDX Defaults are roughly equal to Judge 6.5 on Stepmania. (and let's not even bother with Gambol [A])

2) IIDX has more possible note patterns, it's essentially playing Spread and Three Quarters, not to mention the TT.

3) The StepMania lifebar is more (significantly) relaxed than IIDX's Hard Clear bar (And I'm fairly sure that it's still more strict with Rise/Fall on Normal)
