I'm freaking out because characters like O'Donnell have pulled some really shady stunts (cutting off all contact with the media, for example), and people will STILL vote because of her down-home, mom-like, aw-shucks sensibility DESPITE her revealing herself to be a bad candidate, in her own damn words.
Great job revealing Ms. O'Donnell's attempt to leverage the 'politics of identity' to get herself back in good stead within the conservative cocoon which itself is an alternate, false reality.
He also reveals how conservatives reject functional experts and are instead becoming increasingly attracted to failures who promote the lowest common denominator. Consider the most popular losing objections by failing science or economic students, this is now the dominant faction within the GOP.
This is such a good example of what's wrong with our political machine -- what's disconcerting to me is that O'Donnell's approach is probably a very effective one.
Most people won't seriously measure a candidate's qualification for public office, because doing so means knowing something about the responsibilities of the official and the weight of their vote. This is a great analysis of how politicians treat us like children. Jay Smooth is correct when he says he wants someone in office who is more qualified than the average person. It reminds me of a bit comedian Travis Simmons used to do doing the Bush administration when he asked why anyone would vote for someone dumber than themselves.
