The fact that people think the leanback is part of their normal rowing just goes to show how little you actually know about rowing and coaching it. It's a training technique to help improve "normal technique"...can you guess why??? If no then be quiet and go home. Bounce?? Yes, if it's lifting the boat out the water!! The stern never dips into the water! There are guys who by comparison are not as good as their crew mates but I think that is the point of training....to get better?....
It makes me sick seeing all of you bash on these people about tiny technique problems. They have won the gold 3 years in a row for a reason, not cus their technique is bad. Most of you have never touched an oar in your life. You have no right to criticize anyone on this team. They are both fantastic boats and will continue to do well.
a lot of layback isn't a problem if the entire boat is doing it. but 4 seat in the near boat has zero connection with the legs, so he isn't swinging with anybody else in the boat. 3 seat in the far boat flipcatches very badly, and on that note all 16 of them need to roll up well before the catch, some are missing water because they aren't prepared to take the catch.
Masaryu... I think their technique is actually very good as a team. Yes there is too much lay back in the closest boat but that can easily be changed. I think it's awesome how fast they can go for how long they can. I've never been in a really good 8 which would probably be more fun than one that is never set!
Five seat in the closest boat was over extending at the catch, way to late to the finish. But what I didn't understand about that piece was the rating changes, it was clear that closest boat was overrating the farther boat something chronic. Strange! It was interesting to note that the lean back wasn't so accentuated in the farther boat and they dominated the last five minutes of that piece. It was very smooth.
Yeh, leanback like that is pointless, yes it gives you a longer stroke, but you arent able to keep the presure through the finish with a leanback like that. Yes, lightweights have to use a bit more of theyre leverage a bit more efficently then openweight rower, but not this much i think
Way too much lean back. This technique won't give you any more real speed in the water. You need more leverage at the catch and not the finsh of the stroke. Skiffing and sea rowing however do require much more of a lean back at the finish.

Holy lean-back batman!

They're focusing on the lean to much at backstops and need to be squaring up at the knees. Cover looks good though.

the lateness out of bow of the guy in the white is really annoying

I doubt any of these people making negative comments wouldn't be able to get into cornell for grades or rowing.

I row on this inlet, they rowed around 3.5 to 4k in this piece, very impressive

forget the technique. If you can fly and die on a 10 min piece at a 24 then you have some bigger problems . Get you're heads together.

The walk by the other boat beginning at the middle of the piece was pretty sick.
