  • Makes me cry when I hear this!!! ;(

  • wel it better than in phillippines noh1 YOU should b thanking t6hat you all still attached to the usa. if you decide to b independent probabbly you will be like phillippines. malnourish children no rights and chinese controlled business less labor wages and very dangerous foods to eat.you should thank god u still ahve american to ur shores.

  • Puerto Rico has rejected statehood tree times , so it´s more like a semi independent nation . may Puerto Rico spread it wings and be free … again !

fuck the PNP┌∩┐(◕_◕)┌∩┐, viva el MINH , PUÑETA !

  • @WakkoXtreme , It also rejected Independence.

  • We are what we do and say..........PUNTO

  • wonderful place to visit or live! we went last year, (2009) and didn't have a problem at all! i am black and my lady is puerto rican. our kids are bi-racial, the best of worlds. i give it 5stars! hope to move there when we retire!

  • my daughter and her hubby just moved there he is a native should i visit or wait till they come back to florida in 2 years.if i do were should i stay and what should i avoid like ghettos and gangs and bad food any help would be kool .

  • jaja isfunny the way you talk... there're no gangs in PR so dont worry althught there're some places you should avoid but your son in law should be able to tell you.. now if you need a place to stay send me a message you can stay in my house in luquillo in front of the beach with a swimming pool and a tennis, basketball courts and by the beach..i charge for it but not much plus luquillo is thebest town in puerto rico with the best beach in the island

  • There are gangs EVERYWHERE, including Puerto Rico AND Florida!! Come on now, give me a break!! No country is free from it's downfalls!! Puerto Rico IS beautiful though, and for Americans, I think there is a sense of security because it is a part of our country in a way!

  • there is crime in PR, and there are criminal organizations that sell drugs and murder people, but gangs nope we dont have them... now if you want to call every group of teenager that's hangs out together and gets in trouble a gang, then yes we have gangs..

  • There are no gangs in Puerto Rico, there is crime, yes, but criminals operate independently in a small and inconspicuous fashion. When it comes to drugs it is all about personal connections and underground alliances around a particular ring leader most times only known by word of mouth, it's not really gangs. No one gives a crap about the concept of "a gang" in PR. Nonetheless, places like Jamaica, Brazil, or Mexico, even many US cities, are far more dangerous than PR or Florida, be realistic.

  • @brunettechocha I am not sure where you took offense in my statement. I am not in denial about the US being dangerous as well. There are gangs in EVERY country. Puerto Rico included. Definition of gang: 1. A group of criminals or hoodlums who band together for mutual protection and profit.

    2. A group of adolescents who band together, especially a group of delinquents.... There are gangs EVERYWHERE.

  • I didn't take offense in anything you said. I said what I said because I remember my days growing up in PR and how it was. At no moment did I say either that there is no crime in PR; indeed, there is. But again, criminal groups were all composed of personal connections, links to a key figure, had no public entity, and were only known by word of mouth. Call it "gangs" if you desire but this is a very different from what everyone else calls gangs in Central America, Philippines, or USA.

  • @brunettechocha The onlt Puerto Rican gang I know of are the Sharks from West Side Story, they would stab or shoot you for sure, but what beautiful dance moves.

  • @maureen1002 you would figure the remote areas of PR on the back highways is where an ambush would take place. Not really. I drove all over the island back in 2006 and never had any issues. As far as San Juan was concerned I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express or the Comfort Inn right across from it. No issues. Same thing in Aguadilla (lesser known motel but had a restaruant/good place) and staying in at either Holiday Inns or the Howard Johnson's in Ponce. Pretty ok.

  • @maureen1002 you are absolutely correct about gangs and such but it all depends on where you venture into in the dead of night that are known places for problems. Mainly I find it is the macho attitude that somebody has where that attituide is more or less likely to make you a target vs. respecting the situation. Depends on where however. Even the safest towns in the U.S. still have issues. No place is every safe. Shit happens.

  • @brunettechocha And I quote.... As a result, authorities say, more gangs are competing to supply an increasing demand and killing each other to protect their respective turfs.

''There is a problem,'' Miguel Pereira, superintendent of the Puerto Rico police, says of the escalating violence, and it's a problem whose root is in poverty and addictions.

He and other officials say the key to breaking the cycle of violence is getting rid of the addictions that make the trade so lucrative.

  • ''We have a lot of gangs who protect their territories,'' said Dr. Pío Rechani, executive director of the Institute of Forensic Sciences, which investigates violent crimes.

Most of the homicides are occurring in San Juan and the greater metropolitan areas of Bayamón, Carolina and Caguas. But the southern city of Ponce also has a high homicide rate. Of 372 homicides reported as of mid-July, 297 occurred in the five cities, which also are among the most populated.

  • @maureen1002 I did run into a situation on Vieques where the first place I choose was booked so they recommended another place for $80/night which got me literally a 1 bedroom type style apartment with satellite TV. To my understanding the owner was a pharamcist that kept the property clean unlike my incident on Culebra where I had big roaches the next morning at a guest house. No big deals in broad daylight. Ferry system was good and so was the island hopping by plane.

  • @brunettechocha I just want to make sure I add I have a lot of respect for Puerto Rico and its inhabitants. I just am not sure why you attacked my statement and took offense to it. Every country has its strengths and its weaknesses. INCLUDING Puerto Rico AND the US.

  • @maureen1002 I'd rather return to the Carribean vs. Oahu, HI anyday of the week. That is how I remember Puerto Rico. Besides I think gangs are more than likely to work the casino areas in San Juan but after seeing some of the neighborhoods I drove through, some areas you just might not want to venture into in the dead of night. I even took a risk going to a laundry mat in San Juan. No issues. I think the cabbies were a gyp but that is about it :)

  • I was in puerto rico in December for christams. My verdict out of 5 stars I give it 2 and a half.

Puerto Rico has completely lost its carribean culture, the people are rude and arrogant, the beaches were mediocre with the exception of Culebra island, the food was WAY TO EXPENSIVE AND SO NOT SPECTACULAR and they seem to have a problem with black people there. Basically its Miami Beach with mountains. old san juan was enchanting however. Great day stop on a cruise thats it.

  • @blksophisticado1 Should have gotten out of Metropolitan San Juan, and gone to my town Vieques: best beaches!!!!

  • we stayed with friends in Guayama and we drove around the whole island except for the northwestern side. I saw alot but it was just impossible to see everything. the island is a pretty decent size. Larger than what I imagined. Big freeways like the U.S. mainland and that was impressive.

  • i miss puerto rico, i lived there four 6 years in las piedras and honestly the ppl there are great and hospitable. They're traditions keep me and my family together even if we're mexican/puerto riquenos.

  • I agree with you.

I have to say also, that I was actually

    americanboy171.

  • @boricua12able , People who bitch about PR should go somewhere else. If you can't have fun in Puerto Rico you can't have fun anywhere.

I have just been to Puerto Rico and what a beautiful place to see. Beautiful people too, very nice and welcoming. To all Puerto Ricans reading that message, you are the most wonderful people and I felt great while visiting your beautiful country. God Bless Puerto Rico and Puerto Ricans.

  • que viva la isla del encanto!!

  • Puerto Rico Baby ! # 1

  • I think you should get some help, lol .. and work on that spelling too.

  • LoL .. typical

  • Well I want to comment on phonedial9's comment about Puerto Ricans being so rude. I have been around the world and definitely PR is one of the hospitable places in the world. Maybe you thought you were above everybody else and boricuas are not down for that kind of crap. One thing I noticed about PRicans is that the people are not hypocrite. So in my humble opinion more than likely you were the problem, not them.

  • maybe it was you not them.... people almost everywhere else in the world will only be friendly if it is sincere, and do not believe in this horrible always smile and trun the other cheek customer service crap, you return because of the quality of product not because of the ablity to shmooze on the bull shit. Sorry hun...

  • yep!

  • lol u dont have no idea wat ur talkin about

  • As soon as you arrived, they instinctively knew YOU where a dick. Kicks rocks...

  • Why the hostility? .. and I'm not sure what that means at the end of your comment.

  • Kick rocks, means GTFO! And send your mom my regards!!!

  • ja ja ja ja! LOL!

  • so u wont go back because people didnt smile?

  • First of all it has been said by people who frequently visit Puerto Rico, that Puerto Ricans are the most hospitable of peoples. Mi casa es su casa is not just a motto but a reality. Now, as hospitable as Puerto Ricans are we dont respect those who dont respect us. Maybe you were the problem, like alot of patronizing tourists i have seen come to this island.

  • Unlike rude people, patronizing people are actually pretty rare, so if you're seeing "a lot" of them, I'd say you have some inferiority issues. Perhaps that's where the attitude of resentment stems from.

  • Listen, i aint got time to argue over the internet. If you didnt like Puerto Rico than thats fine. P.S. patronizing people are not rare, you can see it by the way they act.

  • I would suggest that you stay home in the future. Don't bother visiting other countries if you are not ready to respect the people living there. Maybe you're the one with inferiority issues.

  • I was talking in general. The point is this: if you are not happy with people who are not leaving in your backyard, then stay home. Your answer to my previous comment confirms how narrow-minded you are. You clearly don't understand that YOU are the problem, not Puerto Ricans.

  • you need help, LoL

  • Puero Rico IS a country.

  • Puerto Rico is a territory of the U.S. The people rejected independence three times (1967, 1993, and 1998).

  • What I meant is that we are a nation culturally, but not politically. The people rejected independence and also statehood. The US will do whatever benefits them. At the end of the day, they are the ones that decide, not us.

  • @phonedial9 Puerto Rico is a Nation.

=) Ciao!

  • @KrystalMichelle15 YO AMOO A mI PAISS Y AH DONDE QUIERA Q VALLA DIRE Q SOY DE AQUI.SOLO DIGO Q ME GUSTA MAS USA

  • @KrystalMichelle15 Ps y q paso? lo dije pero me referia a q no es el mejor lugar para vivir

  • That's interesting. Puerto Ricans have been smiling at me and were really nice to me because this is how I have been treating them. I guess you got what you deserved especially if you have such a negative attitude towards them. Have you ever heard of the word respect before?
