when skinstad first came out, boy he was really good. could have been a great if it wasnt for injuries. crib then stepped up and on his day, was the best no.8 in the world. his rugby days ended prematurely. the others were all world beaters on their day. then along comes spies from s.a.f. now this guy lifted the platform from these guys, i rated him if he kept playing the way he first did, the greatest no.8. but what about his form now, tragic! you dont even hear his name during the game!
My one abiding memory of this try, which has stayed with me since I saw it live as a 9-year-old, is the gorgeous line Jones ran when receiving the pass. Just brilliant.
Make sure you all check the man who made the initial break, and the thumping tackle right at the beginning of the clip which turned the ball over...the man Michael Jones. Surely one of the greatest if not the greatest All Black ever.
I remember that fresh Kiwi with the flag running inside the in-goal area!
Another thing, what an insult to a great All Black team by playing both Sydney tests of this series at Concord Oval. Whenever I drive past this ground now I can't believe they played Bledisloe Cup tests there. It's a ramshackle club ground.
Ok, so the SFS wasn't quite ready, but the games should have been played at the traditional venue, the SCG.
the iceman was just awesome....the michael jordan of rugby...every1 playing loose wanted 2 play like him...the greatest ever #7 to don da black jersey....
@DARK2196 he was awesome alright. not only was he the greatest openside to don the black jersey, he was the greatest openside ever! no rugby player has come close with the exception of mccaw, who would still be lagging a meter or two behind this guy. peace.
@majorcoinz01 Josh Kronfeld was a legend New Zealands success is based on us having the best loosies in the world. No one else is comparable. Lochore, Kirkpatrick, Shelford, Jones, Mexted (he was bloody good) McCaw, So'oialo, Mourie, Brewer, Brooke the list goes on and on. All were considered the worlds best in their day by the way and I havent even mentioned heaps of others.
@ImeldaDavies hey, no doubt kronfeld was a legend. hes my favourite nz openside of alltime to be honest. when he was playing, media was calling him a leech in a negative way cos he scabbed tries. isnt that a no7s role? now how good is that? a leech in this case is a compliment. for support play, you would be hard pressed to fins someone better. is just allround play, iceman and maccaw was better. just. nz has been spoilt with talent that our npc players would make national teams in other nations
@majorcoinz01 Oh yeah I agree mate. He was a great support player. I mean yeah an Nz NPC loose forward is everyone elses international quality. Jesus and what a good player Marty Holah was. Man oh man.
what he did in his early days was phenomenal now hes not even rated for his position. read for the abs now is better! this leads me to what i have always believed, that zinny is STILL the greatest no.8 the world has seen! sure, these guys are faster and stronger than zinny but zinny had the best no.8 rugby brain ever. could do what the backs could do and sometimes even better. only a few people read the game better. zinzan FTW!
@ImeldaDavies marty holah was good, would have started in any other countries starting 15. when maccaw was in, holah and braid were second fiddle. they are world class. when kronfeld was in, blowers, robertson, vanisi were on top for their respected provinces but kronfeld ruled the nest. kronfeld went on to rule the world like so many nz flankers. change of topic, the world has seen some veru good no.8s. dillagio, kefu, chabal, so'oialo. skinstad, teichman, willie o, ron crib, maka.
Every era or generation produces magical players in the mid 80's to 90's they were Michael Jones and John Kirwan and David Campese now it's Dan Carter
When he retired at the end of a long writing career, John Reason, a sports writer for The Telegraph, who gave the impression that he would rather cut his tongue out than say something complimentary about New Zealand rugby, said that Michael Jones was the best rugby player he had ever seen.
No 1 can come close to Michael Jones...he was just devastating...the All Blacks needed him...McCaw is not that close to being the Lord of Openside Flankers..great player but doesnt have that X-Factor that Jones possesed...pure legend Micheal Jones.
J.K The best All Black wing in my opinion in the history of our team..The try against Italy, day 1 - 87 - fucking devastating..You had to feel sorry for all the other teams in the pool. Imagine watching that and saying "Oh Fuck -we're next".LOL. ..
..JK ...
Who can forget "that" tackle against
wales... when all looked lost..out of the corner came a black streek of all black fury intent on stopping the impossible BUT.....he did and the look on the welshmans face...Priceless....
I was gonna say, just how many did that lad with the flag have when he wondered on the field. I'm sure Kirwan would have been totally pissed had he run into him.
Kirwan is the best ever. Better then Camp-whats-his-face and Joanie Lomu.

Look at that burst of speed by J,K, once he had the ball. Best of all time. Nobody could stop the guy when he was in his prime.
