  • Grunt: I would never stab you in the back commander. Warriors like us, straight to the face

  • Fox exec: Aww, what're you gettin' so pissed about? It ain't like we screwed you over personally!

Me: WRONG! You screw over ANY of us, you screw us ALL over personally! And since that's a concept you can't seem to wrap your head around, you got no place on TV.

Fox exect: Oh come on! BE REASONAB--

Me: Wash? Full burn. *walks away to the sound of the engines roaring, followed by a satisfying little "splorch" as the airlock suddenly empties*

  • You did it to us, Fox, and that's a fact.

  • 2:35 so he wants him to stab him in the face!?!

  • Scenes like this are outrageous. Producers should exercise better judgement.

What if viewers imagined politicians had sold out and hold them accountable in this manner?!? If they did the producers should be held responsible for incitement.

  • Best scene of the series imo.

  • At 1:13 BEST. LINE. EVER.

  • The shame and guilt in Jayne's eyes when he accepted he was going to die...

That's true acting from Mr. Baldwin.

  • my favorite scene

  • Mal is NOT to be fucked with.

  • I don't think Mal ever really intended to space him. I think he just wanted to scare the hell out of Jayne.

  • 4 people obviously stabbed Mal in the back.

  • Thing Jayne fears... Mal, being spaced, Reavers... and in that order.

  • @mazrimtaim10 That's soo true. I mean everytime Mal gets his evil eyes on (hehe) Jayne always - Always - takes this little step back, like he's preparing to flee;D It's awesome.

  • Love love love love this scene, everybody loves Jayne, I don't like him, Mal so totally deserves more recognition for his character he's more loyal and forgiving D:

  • Love the voice effect at 1:53

  • @Neo2234 Could you not post that exact same comment on every single Ariel related episode on youtube??

  • I think it was that last bit, when Jayne asked Mal not to let everyone know what he did which is what made Mal change his mind about spacing him.

  • 1:05 "Leaving Atmo in 2 minutes"

    2:33 Airlock closes

Kinda crazy when you realize that Jayne only had 32 seconds left to save himself.

  • Next time you decide to stab me in the back, have the guts to do it to my face.... ?

  • @coolbs2008 lol My sister always laughed at that line. But it's a good line. xD Redundant...but totally perfect sense. "Next time you're gonna betray me, make sure you have the guts to do it to my face." basically. xD

  • Damnit, beaten to the punch by months...

  • Looks like Jayne was held over the volcano's edge.

  • Wow keelhauling in space. That seriously got to be far worse than the sea.

  • i can't help but notice Nathan Fillion looked really thin and young than he is in Castle, maybe its age but wow imagine if he looked like that in Castle, Beckett would say "screw it"

  • This is one of the best scenes I have seen in a TV show.

It is totally fresh and surprising. The guy said the one thing - the ONLY thing that could save him. And he probably didn't even realize he was saying it.

Very powerful stuff for a TV show at any time. A 1

  • I love this scene it shows just how much mal cares about his crew. It also shows that jane inspite of his words and seemingly callous attitude really cares about what people think.

  • What I (personally) found mos amazing about this scene is how it plays with Shan-Yu's (I dunno how to spell that bugger's name) ideas about how to truly know a man. Mal just held Jayne over the metaphorical volcano, and met the real Jane. No lies, no tough acts, no guns or guts, just a guy. More scared about what his friends think of him than about his imminent death.

Too bad that was explained in the NEXT episode and Fox aired them out of order, thus, ruining the impact.

  • @tehredmage Although your connection between Shan Yu's philosophy and Jayne's personality is a good and thoughtful one, the episode "Ariel" (in which Jayne betrays the Tams) actually was INTENDED to come before "War Stories" (the episode that explains about Shan Yu), regardless of how Fox screwed up the airing order.

  • @NeoRetro10K That's what I said. The Shan-Yu explanation comes right after this.

  • @tehredmage Sorry, maybe I misunderstood your meaning. I see what you mean now, but the way I read it in the first place seemed to indicate that you thought the opposite. I like to think that I usually put some thought into my posts, but apparently I was holding the Idiot Ball when I first posted.

  • @NeoRetro10K No problem man.

  • @tehredmage It shows mastery on behalf of the actors, the writers, and on Joss Whedon to create such mastery in terms of television. I think that's the thing about Jayne and it's cool because his very name is symbolic. A guy who does care but creates a gruff exterior to protect himself. I can relate. And besides this scene and the one where he gets the hat from his mom kills me.

  • What I love about this show is that every character is fleshed out. Jayne could have easily been a two-dimensional mercenary who consistently screws everyone over (which he does do a lot), but he's also given a LOT of really human moments that make you feel like you're watching a person and not just a plot device. The same can be said for all the Serenity crew members.

  • Even in the great drama moments, Mal gets appropriately snarky lines:

    -You called the feds

    -WHAT? I got pinched!

-Which is what happens... when you CALL THE FEDS.

  • Fuck Captain Kirk...give me Captain Mal every day of the week lol.

  • @endorphinz

    I have to agree.

  • "next time you decide to stab me in the back, have the guts to do it to my face"

mal wasnt talking to jayne. he was talking to fox!

  • i almost cried during this scene.

  • @souske25

    whatcha mean "almost"? (sniffle)

  • Three things Jayne's afraid of. Reavers, being spaced... and Mal.

  • Three people messed with Malcolm Reynolds' crew.

  • I think that last line was the only thing that kept Mal from spacing him. Jayne showing he cared what the other's thought.

  • in real life this is imposible

  • @bogdantoa they're still in the atmosphere though...

  • I keep cryin' every time I see this... the look of desperation and guilt on Jayne's face just gets to me.

  • As much as I hate the fact that firefly got cancelled, I'm glad that at least some of the actors went on to find success, like Nathan Fillion in Castel, and Adam Baldwin in Chuck, both of which I am happy to say have not been cacelled yet.

  • Can i come in?

  • This was easily one of the greatest shows of all time. Imagine what it could have been.

  • @ZippoNick Just think of all the great one-liners from Jayne we have missed out on!

  • "have the guts to do it to my face" one of my favorites lines in the series...I want it back!

  • mal= total badass! that is all.

  • Mal is what most men stop being like .

  • I love Mal!

  • Fox= Epic Fail. Fuck you Fox.... damn basterds.

  • @Revan1701E it wasn't even epic it was just a fail

  • I love this scene. Its amazing. And after this episode you can see how much jayne loves being part of the crew even though hes a mercenary and tries not to show it. He loves the fact its his home and really does feel bad about betraying not just mal but everyone else....Plus you cant stay mad at him and his jaunty hats :D

  • that jerk he betrys them and thne he's like "can I come in?" does he not know that he's in trouble?! But then again I'd ask the same question rofl.

  • I was really sad at this part cause I like Jayne. T_T

  • Thanks for posting this. This is my favorite Firefly scene. I actually got misty when I first saw this. A rare TV moment with real passion.

  • Jayne fucked up BIGTIME that day.

  • ooh! great scene! what season was this episode in? oh right... season 1 : (

  • Yeah :(

  • It was more like season 0.8, since the idiots at Fox failed to air the whole season.

  • Classic Mal indeed. I love the emotions flowing between Jayne and Mal. One of the many reasons I love this show so much.

  • "The next time you decide to stab me in the back, have the guts to do it to my face."

    Classic Mal, right there. :D

  • I love love love this scene. it's one of my favorites in the whole series. Just... Mal's reaction to Jayne's betrayal, and the way Jayne finally says something sincere and actually regrets... Nathan Fillion and Adam Baldwin are epic win ♥♥♥ thanks for posting, if only so I could rave about it like a nerd :P
