@niddasa "you denying it, just totally proves how UNEDUCATED you are." Insulting me again, and once more, lying. I am far more educated than you, and that is a fact. Also, it is only the public school education system that can dumb people down. College, on the other hand, has WAY more factors than just the system that "dumbs people down." More often then not, it's the students own fault, not the systems.
@niddasa "also like i said if there is 1 there are 2 if there are 2 there are 3 etc." Incorrect. The numbers stop somewhere. And the numbers are not very high at all. Your theory is invalid. "negative side effects dont have to occur in any specific number, they just have to occur as a result." And they are not a result of homeschooling but bad parenting. And you've called me dumb, unintelligent, etc, too. So you can stop playing innocent.
@niddasa "and home schooling permits children to stay home with problem parents 24/7 365 days a year, YES home schooling does facilitate this." Yes, WITH THEIR PARENTS. Guess what that means? That the parents are responsible. The institution of homeschooling is not responsible, it's only an institution. The parents are responsible, since they're the ones who run the institution and what goes on. Therefore, that is incorrect.
@niddasa "apparently im mature enough to keep you responding." Incorrect. Maturity has nothing to do with it. It also doesn't matter how many times a person responds to you - Youtube has a character limit, you know. And you're the one who has been condescending and rude, asserting a lie as a truth when it is not, and outright insulting me. Don't try to play innocent, because it won't work. And no, you didn't post a negative side effect of homeschooling. That's parenting.
@niddasa "the parents are the cause of the homeschooling case but homeschooling facilitated that cause."
No, it did not. The homeschooling case can NOT exist without the parents, therefore, the case is dependent upon the parents. Also, the case of your cousin HAS to be caused by the parents. Why? Because ALL OTHER cases, regardless of the schooling situation, are exactly the same. It's the parents fault. You're being extremely illogical.
@irishcowgirl77 Did you ever feel sad or like you were missing out while being homeschooled? (although it does look like you had the experience of both worlds)
@creamsodaistasty Haha nope. I can honestly say that I've only had about three days in over 10 years of homeschooling in which I wished I was in a school. A lot of people worry about their children missing out on the traditional public/private school opportunities, but there are LOTS of ways that kids can get a feel for being in a classroom without sitting in one from 8 AM to 3 PM everyday. I've joined lots of homeschool groups that had fun weekly classes like speech or dance.
@creamsodaistasty I'm really thankful that my parents cared enough to homeschool us. Some kids can thrive in the typical school environments, but not all do. The greatest thing (besides the lack of peer pressure, the flexible schedule, and the fact that the child isn't just a number) about homeschooling is that IF done right, it will lead to a child who loves to learn. Learning doesn't have to be boring! Homeschooling can cultivate a fantastic bond between kids and parents.
@creamsodaistasty And you can teach your kids to love learning, and make school fun for them. I think that's probably one of the greatest downfalls of our society. Kids that like school are laughed at. Think of all we could accomplish if children LIKED to learn, and were self-teachers! I'm always identifying trees, and learning new skills and talents, and challenging myself to grow in fun and beneficial ways. I'm positive that I wouldn't have learned that outlook from a school.
@2tim149 I agree! And it's not just poor/bad public schools, I also went to a religious-based private school and the social setting was just as miserable!
As soon as I saw the title, I cringed, expecting the usual bashing of the lack of "socialization" in home-schooled children. I was extremely relieved that your video wasn't that, and I agree with basically everything you said. Being home-schooled through part of middle and high school was the best thing that ever happened to me, it set me on the right path towards a top education and career. There are many ways to properly socialize away from the poisonous public/private school environments!
The funny thing about the whole "socialization" issue is that the proponents of public school don't consider that with homeschooling you and your child choose the company they will keep and it mainly will have to do with their interests as opposed to the cliques and social hierarchy that are inherent in public school. These often distract children from the learning experience and hinder their academic development.
All kids I know who were either home-schooled or an only child were all weird... That's just my experience. But they were always really hard to get along with.
@TheCatsLastWord You know you are right. All the public schooled kids I know are rude, dress like thugs waiting their turn to be arrested or dress like hookers. You know all the public school kids I know can't read very well because teachers are more concerned about funding and standard tests. I can't get along with public schooled kids. That is just my experience.
The government does not want you to home school your children because they will not then be indoctrinated into the New World Order. Look up agenda 21, research the history of the deliberate dumbing down of America. Discover the truth about the UN United Nations. Form your own thoughts and opinions based on what you find and then decide if home schooling YOUR child is so terrible.
@thetrashmaninpark and in your resume. i already knew what you told me though. i think what i meant to say was how do they know you're clever when the education you got wasn't competitive ie there weren't loads of others taking the same tests as you and getting different scores. and universities letting you in or not.
all you homeschoolers think about is yourself. do you ever think about what you kids want? you kid wont have the experienc of homecoming ,prom ,dances , or school football games. oh and whats with the comeplaining that you might not have time to go to starbuck or some other cafe at 0:47? but i will give you credit that you child will have better grades.
@guywithskinnyjeans No, we think of our kids future and the negative environment of the public school system. Home schooling has grown so large that there have been Co-Ops formed all over the country. They have athletic and academic associations and put on all kinds of events, like formals and other dances--without the worldly music and atmosphere that goes along with public school events. WE DO INDEED think about our children MORE than ourselves. Do some research first before you make comments.
@guywithskinnyjeans Jsyk, most homeschoolers do have their own prom. I've already been to 3, haha. Our prom is open to all high school students. Ours is a lot nicer than most of the school proms around. We also have a winter dance, a fall dance (casual), and I'm about to organize an early spring dance with some friends. We have a HUGE basketball team, a track team, a tennis team, and an amazing mock trial team. As for Sbux, what can I say? It's a great place to study. :}
This was awesome! I have to say that I enjoyed it because so many times you get only one side of it all. From those who are anti-homeschooling who just state all the negatives to those who are pro-homeschooling who make it all sound easy. I have been homeschooling my three kids for the past 4 years and I love that you brought both the negatives and the positives. Homeschooling is not easy but it is worth it if it is something that works for you and your family like it does ours! Great Job!!!!!!!
I love that my homeschooled child is more social that my sister in law's public school kid. Maybe he should be homeschooled to learn some skills with socialzation.
can a single parent who has to work full time provide enough education at home before or after work to homeschool a child & get that only child out enough for proper socialization?i would rather homeschool my son & get out there in the community & learn together if i didn't have to work, but it seems like a luxury i can't afford b/c i am the sole financial provider. i cant even afford after school activities now while i work full time.
@sdsunshiness Don't feel bad. You're not a bad parent. Not every parent can afford to home school their kids. My mother couldn't and I turned out OK. Just support you child and show them that getting an education is important. It's not fair to say that parents who send their kids to school are lazy; most aren't and just can't, for whatever reason, homeschool their child. Your kid is probably perfectly happy anyways.
@Rosebunse I believe a lot more parents are capable of home school than one might think.. But it takes a lot of self-confidence to break out of the established system of "professionals" who go out of their way to propagandize us into thinking that they can do it better. Some people do turn out okay, like yourself--and I think that's because your parents invested time and attention in you rather than just dropping you off at school and having you spend the maximum possible time there.
@Rosebunse That said... it is of course more automatic to invest time and attention in one's kids when they are at home all day. Still, kudos to all parents who, home-schoolers or otherwise, stay involved in their kids' lives.
@Rosebunse Well, if your kids are at home all day, there's more obvious opportunity to spend time with them, though "automatic" wasn't exactly the right word.
@rustypolymath Yeah, but for some parents, it may be better to not spend time with their kids. That's the good thing about sending your kids to school, it gives them different perspectives. Sure, not all of those are positive either, but it can be a good thing for some kids.
@Rosebunse Some parents are criminals/sociopaths, but throughout most of history it was the norm for parents and children to see much more of each other than they do today. Contemporary art portrays the nuclear family is portrayed as mean-spirited, culturally asphyxiating. I think the institution of the family is seriously maligned and undervalued, especially given the close link in Europe between its collapse and a huge rise in suicide attempts.
@rustypolymath Well, yeah, there should be family values, but I'm just saying that sending your child to school doesn't make you a less than perfect parent. I mean, my mom wasn't a sociopath or anything, but I know homeschooling would not have been for the better for us. I've been able to experience so much, and it would've been too far of a strain. You can have a strong family with regular school. There's so much more to it than that.
Great, honest information! For my family, the cons of homeschooling are a light burden compared to the cons of a public education. Hope to see more videos soon!
Most of these aren't really issues... Parenting is hard and if you choose to homeschool it won't be easy but neither is sending your kid to a "regular" school and knowing your child isn't getting the best education. If you find that you can't fully homeschool try online schooling, it has many of the benefits of homeschooling (self motivation, flexibility...) but it doesn't involve that much of a parent's time or knowledge...
Time is not a factor. I can always take my kids with me to the coffee shop! As a matter of fact time is irrelevant. If I want to go to Tahiti or to a local art show I am not pressed for schedules or time. My children are available to me 24-7 and we can just go! Anytime Anywhere!

@thegreenteendesigner well i wanna be around more kids my age and i wanna get the experience my friends get cuz yea i have aqs few friends i met them at church but i just wanna go so i can get the experience everybody else gets
