President Clinton forever put aside the dislike people had for President Nixon when he said that "We should look at President Nixon's whole record instead of parts of it" or something like that. IT put people in thier places who were critical of Nixon and funny thing is you haven't heard anything really bad said of Nixon since.
How can Bush inherit the politics to his son and how can Clinton inherit the politics to his wife. This is no democracy. They can only build war not peace. The US-american people have to wake up and take to the streets and demonstrate against their politicians. No war!
I find it interesting that Bill Clinton, who once reviled Richard Nixon, gave such a fine eulogy at RMN's funeral. What's even more interesting is that after Clinton became President, he sought out Nixon's counsel on foreign policy matters, and actually developed a friendship with Richard Nixon.
I was a pretty staunch Republican during Clinton's years in The White House, (I'm now a Democrat) but even then, I viewed this as one of Bill Clinton's finest moments.
As a Republican I voted for Clinton, alot of people bashed Bill but I always had respect for the man....He had his issues but unlike Obamalamadingdong you could see Bill wasn't "phony", the man when he spoke in times of trouble you knew it was from the heart....
Him, George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush, Reagan, Nixon, and Kennedy had humanity and dignity...They ACTED Presidental....Obamalamadingdong, Carter, Ford, and LBJ were a bunch of stooges....
How Dan rather even talk about watergate here ! it has nothing to do with how great this man was ! President Nixon will go down in history as a great, courageous man, whereas Rather will be buried and 3 hours later replaced with some bum...... my videos show the rather ending
@schweigerlover01 If I am not mistaken, Nixon went to the funeral of LBJ and they certainly didn't like each other. It is customary to attend a funeral of a lete President despite what your political leanings are.
@schweigerlover01 President Clinton liked President Nixon, in fact, all the Presidents get along well, because, they understand the difficulties of the job, and have a certain affinity only a few men at any one time in the world can know.
@1973mazdarx4coupe That's true. Clinton graciously accepted Nixon's counsel. The two would talk by telephone and, to his credit, President Clinton never disrespected Mr. Nixon or gave in to the hatred some in his party felt for the him. Richard Nixon made a disastrous series of decisions in the early 1970s, and nobody paid more of a price for those mistakes than did he and his presidency. Still, he had something to offer his nation, and President Clinton was wise to accept Nixon's advice.
fuck dan rather, shut the fuck up and let the moment blossom, open your mouth the moment you get a chance, you got the fate you deserved Dan Rather, much more than Nixon
Yes, he was. History has been kinder to him and to Gerald Ford in the aftermath of that long, national nightmare. It'll be interesting to see what will be said of Carter, both Bushes, and Clinton over time.
Dude, your a sick SOB you know that? How can you say that? Who the fuck are you to judge him? He endured things beyond your understanding! He payed his dues! And I hope you burn in hell and are raped by all of satans demons you stupid ass fuck!
You are right about Reagan. People who were there said he seemed utterly confused that day. His last speech was two months earlier, and even Reagan himself confessed he was having troubles then.
I think, if the Monica Lewinsky scandal occurred just a bit before this funeral, Clinton would have made a more emotionally persuasive speech, of forgiving Nixon.
That was a very beautiful eulogy Bill gave... It gave a good revelation; to not judge on only one event; but his whole life. It would hold true for Bill four years later when he had a controversy of his own. I have to add, I simply love Bill's hair! It's so poofy! :D (sorry about that, democrat fan girl moment :P )
I agree. He was so brilliant in many ways and ahead of the times. A man with public charm w/ our own enemies, yet a self-destructive personality in many ways.
These people get along for the most part. The fights regarding politics don't usually move into the private sphere. Clinton had no choice. Presidents are required to speak at past President's funerals. He did no service to President Nixon he did it for himself if it were political in any form.
Yeah in his memoir he really didn't speak favourably of Richard Nixon. I think most Americans disliked him but since he did died they should give him a proper burial for ending the Vietname War and opening relations with China and creating the EPA among other things. Still Watergate will mark his name.

A good man? haha Tell me what type of glue you were sniffing when you wrote that comment. Nixon will be considered our second worst President right behind George Dubya. The only thing that I admired about the man was his George Will-like knowledge of baseball.
I would give ANYTHING...to have a President Bill Clinton or even a President Hillary Clinton over the glory finder wanna be that we are about to be stuck with.
