  • I really do like her vioce it is a great gift.

  • Great version, but something badly wrong with her voice.

  • It's a beautiful version of the song -- based on a version done for the American T.V. series "Dawson's Creek" by Mary Beth Maziarz. The slower pace is more consistent with the way John Stewart performed it (he wrote it) than the version done by the Monkees.

Before dissing the Monkees too much, keep in mind that their hits were written by top people in the industry - Goffin and King, Neil Diamond, John Stewart among others. That's why those tunes have lasting value (while the rest are dreck.)

  • discreditor i lived thru the 60s and believe me most of the monkees stuff was throwaway

  • She sounds pretty good for a retard.

  • @HaneeFannee If you don't like it, then don't listen to her.

  • @redmr2na I think if you'll take notice, you'll see that I'm actually COMPLEMENTING her. Most freaks can't even hum a tune!

  • @HaneeFannee Ahh, gotcha, I didn't catch on to your meaning

  • @HaneeFannee It's complimenting, not complementing. When you complement something it means you go with it, as dressing complements salad. I am sorry to be pedantic but I am an English teacher with Asperger's so I can't help it.

  • @littleniyah That's okay and I apologise for my error. I respect people like you who are working and paying tax instead of reaping mental health benefits, though.. I don't think you should be working with children. You're hardly a good role model when you have the mind of a child, yourself :-)

  • @HaneeFannee Not sure who you are talking to. I certainly don't have the mind of a child. I have a mind that can remember being a child, hence I am an excellent teacher. Ignorance seems to be your forte. First spelling, now criticizing Aspies with zero understanding. Anyway, I am through with this conversation, it's boring.

  • @HaneeFannee Anyway, what on earth is wrong with you? Are you so empty that you must stoop to trying to provoke arguments on youtube? You are sad, lame and a loser.

  • life. I'm a lover of music, and I say to all the narrow minded people that leave negative comments on videos of anything that is different then what they like, Hey, stop being so narrow minded. If it works for you fine, if it doesn't don't listen to it.

  • @redmr2na - well said

  • I Never ever thought I'd actually like anything Susan Boyle did, but I stand corrected. Even though Yes the original is better for it own reasons, I think this version has a place as well. Susan took a upbeat song, and gave it more of a slower, sadder, ballad like sound and it works. I love original versions of songs sung by the people that wrote them to begin with, but I'm not opposed to listening to different versions of songs. Music is like love, it comes in many forms from all walks of

  • Such a wonderful singer, with modest ways. Which makes her so much more special that many other singers. A true simple Gal!

  • Amazing!

  • This is too slow. It's meant to be a hipish pop song not a ballad. Susan is a great singer but this song is not for her.

  • each individual has their own singing style! those who are sold out to their idols, get the fuck out of youtube with their bias comparisons! who told you to come to youtube and judge? this is for everyone...just lend your ear fucking morons!!! will you???

  • Like I said, the song wasn't written by the Monkees...

  • buu una cagada

  • どれほど歌が上手でも、オリジナルには勝てない。

  • such a sweet sounding version of the old Monkees hit!!

  • dawson's creek memories! *__*

  • Comment removed

  • as much as this is very well sung, @whiskers1965 is right, its not really meant to be sung slowly

  • sutekinauta,arigato!

  • If anyone is interested in the songwriter he was a member of the Kingston trio-a band which recently won a grammy. The Monkees sang a very popular version of the song but we mustn't get confused by pop culture-many pop bands don't write their own music.

  • Since when did the song 'belong' to the Monkees?!-It doesn't! It was written by the late John Stewart and recognition for the song should be given to him. Look him up. Personally, I love this version and Susan has reminded us of what can be done with a beautiful and timeless song.

  • Since when did the song 'blong' to the Monkees?!-It doesn't! It was written by the late John Stewart and recognition for the song should be given to him. Look him up. Personally, I love this version and Susan has reminded us of what can be done with a beautiful and timeless song.

  • Think she has a great voice, and also think this is a good cover. and i agree with what @Dazzles4571 has said, any cover she has made of any song it cant be faulted. x :))

  • she renews this throwaway pop song into something fragile but beautiful this is what great artists do not carbon copies of the originals and a fabulous production too

  • @irish9boy throwaway pop song, are you mad? Nope don't answer that the evidence is here for all to see.

  • Leave it to the Monkees Susan, you are good at what you do but this doesn't do you justice. Even Anne Murray was better than this. I really enjoyed you on BGT

  • I pull my hair out everytime this happens..this is an Iconic number, its one of those songs that can Never be equalled, let alone be Improved..by "Anyone",

it belongs to The Monkeys and "Always" will..it holds its place in the past, along with our memories..and makes us smile when we hear it

and although Susan has a good voice, listening to This is like listening to an Eagle scream, but she`s not the first to ruin a sybolic sound such as this..and now I,m practically bald.

    Its Thumbs down for me!!

  • sorry but while i like this song it was not meant to be sung slowly like a ballad ..big miss on susans part

  • Im not a hardcore fan but so far all the songs she has covered i've not found a single flaw...

  • She's Scottish is a lovely person famous and she can sing has a lot going for her she's a multi millionaire I think you folk who hate her are sad.

  • What does it matter what she looks like Elton Johns not exactly Brad Pitt is he?

  • @indoorsun go an listen to the monkeys ballsucker!!

  • WOW Susan you are amazing! You are great please make more albums!

  • @selimaazouri how many of us became the dreams we had?how many are the ballerinas, doctors or brought beauty or joy,how many of us wish to have youth, talent, be slender and beautiful. DOES THE COFFE TASTES better if the mug isn't perfect?

  • 10 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 X LIKE

  • its nice, but her voice is amazing compared to today's singers but i like the original by the monkees but she is great

  • This woman's voice is truly, truly, incomparable. I love it, love it!

  • We miss John too. Nice version here too!

  • I wonder how many listeners know this is actually a John Stewart (rip) song. A hit by the Monkee's made it famous.. It also made John the money to leave the Kingston Trio and go out on his own. John Sang wrote and sang this as a love song. I think he'd have appreciated this version. I do. God I miss John and Buffy. I'll see em both the next time around.

  • Wow....

    Love it!

    Susan you're amazing!

  • I have to admit Susan's singing is quite unique, in a good way, but this is way to slow-paced and sleep-enducing, it's like that slow piano-backed version of Thriller, it just doesen't work.

  • Horrible mangling of a classic song. Extremely boring as well.

  • Horrible mangling of a classic song.

  • zzzzz........

  • She's got a mint voice but the original was better

  • first time i've heard this version, i really love it too, love you susan i'll see to it ill grab a copy of your album, dolly

  • it sounds so.... sad

  • She's the greatest!

  • Killed it

  • She has a great voice, but she doesn't get the song at all... it's not a slow ballad, it's a fast sing-along pop song...fun and cheery. The pace here is all off.

  • @Ginge220 actually, this arrangement was done by Mary Beth Maziarz. I personally can't stand the Monkees version. This song really gets to the real heart of it. For reference, see Dawson's Creek soundtrack (Mary Beth's version).

  • one of the best voice i've ever heard, susan boyle is awesome, and this version of the song is also better than the orignal one.

  • nice!

  • Think they could have done a much better job of this although Susan's voice is good as always...

  • This woman was an overnight sensation for a reason. She is brilliant!

  • beautiful voice! we love you!

  • "I had a dream my life would be

So much different from this hell I'm living

So different now from what it seemed

    Now life has killed

    The dream I dreamed."

    Irony

  • I hate it when people get all fancy like that and slide around from note to nore - just stick to the damn melody for pete's sake! Terrible remake of a classic song.

  • @GreenAshR46 It's called "ornamentation." Also, the original melody, note for note, would be pretty damn boring at this tempo, wouldn't you agree?

  • she has really beautiful hands

  • i was just listening to the monkees version and realised that she kinda looks like micky delenz did when he had curley hair xD....except i love micky :3 <3 lol

  • @JessOvBHE she kinda does

  • best version ever! <3

  • This songs makes me happy. Keep singing Susan!

  • This some brings Peace. I love your voice Susan.

  • we love you, Susan!!!

  • SueBo!!!! <3

    Offfffttttttttttttt <3

    xxxxxxxxxxx

  • i love this version!! Never stop singing susan!! i love you!!

  • What a fantastic singer! I must be really emotional today or something, because her cover of "How Great Thou Art" actually brought tears to my eyes.

  • thanks Susan for making the world to revival so beautifull songs

  • beautiful and absolute perfection! i'm so proud of Susan

  • My daughter, 14, was so excited to hear my name on the album! I like how they tweaked the lyrics to fit a female singer. The other "name" mentioned on the album, "Grace," belongs to our yellow lab. Beautiful job, Susan. Other bizarre coinky-dink: Davy Jones lives only 30 miles up the road from us here in central PA. Wonder if he's heard this version? I love both versions, and have a poster that says "I'm Sleepy Jean, Cheer Me Up," signed by Davy.

  • how sad is this version!!!excellent

  • So beautiful...

  • We love you Susan, just keep singing from your heart no matter what!
