  • you guys are very good at reveiwing

  • Everyone was great in this movie, deffinetly and oscar condendor!

  • It deserves three academy awards. Best movie. Best actress and best supporting actress

  • This movie was awesome!! The best part is the crappy pie joke.

  • Thanks for the review. I'm going to see it this weekend. You guys r cool!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great Movie and Great Performances, it should get a few oscar noms but wouldn't be surprised if it didn't cause of the subject matter and it came out in August and they tend to forget about summer movies...I'm especially proud of the fact that Hollywood was willing to produce a movie about a very controversial period of time for blacks and whites in this country

  • wiggers

  • @whitetornado52 Huh?

  • @schmoesknow White niggers? ?lol?

  • @schmoesknow wiggers=White "n-word"

  • Speaking of white savior, have you prayed to Jesus today? lol

  • I am reading this book now and I am really looking forward to this movie hitting NZ screens.

  • Great Sunglasses!!!!

We love SKEETERS amber sunglasses. Looks great in the convertible car scene. They are a beautiful cross between aviators and 1950 cat eyes...cool. Who makes them? Where can we get them?

  • I do intend to see this movie. Some positive reviews I read brought back the memory of Hattie McDaniel in Gone With The Wind.... What say????

  • I read the book as an English class assignment a couple months ago, it's a really good story and it seems that the movie won't dissapoint either :)

  • So did Minny ever get her ass beat for doing the things she did since it was such a backwards repressed time for blacks?

I'm confused, is this movie a depiction of life was like back in the 60's in Mississippi or is it a comedy?

  • Have you seen “Programming the Nation?” I’d love to hear your thoughts on it, the issues you present remind me of the movie. BTW I just subscribed to your channel and I can’t wait to see your next video. bit. ly/onvESA

  • i have always wanted to watch The Help since the first time I've heard of it.....

  • I liked this movie. Great acting good story. My only problem is that it seems like we have seen this story befor.

  • I just got back from seeing this film and all i've got to say is Best Movie of the Year imo. The acting was perfect, It had a perfect balance of emotional drama and comedy, and you leave the movie feeling like you want to help make a difference too.I really enjoyed the film. Also for a movie thats 2hrs & 18 mins long there was not one dull moment. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this movie!!! Thanks for the review guys. I always enjoy them :)

  • I read THE HELP, I saw THE HELP, I reviewed THE HELP for another review site...and I loved your review....I wept so hard that my review was tainted with swollen eyes and the need for kleenex....Miss Hilly was absolutely a fire breathing dragon....a CUTE dragon, but nevertheless, the best performance of Ron Howard's little girl to date!! Emma, Aibee, Minny...all Oscar worthy performances...don't forget little Cissy!!! This is the opposite of a piece of Minny's PIE!! It's a piece of ART!!!!!!

  • I REALLY want Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer & Emma Stone to get BIG awards for this movie.

  • Fantastic movie. Not so much "white savior" as it is "working together to achieve the same goal". It was funny, exciting, touching, and funny again with some of the best acting I've seen in years. Totally award worthy.

  • @BillBaileyFan2662 Cute euphemism. Not "white savior" but "working together to achieve the same goal". Ask yourself, whose idea it was to write the book? Whose idea it was to do this to change situation that the black characters where in? Who had to convince who to go along with this idea? Something tells me it wasn't the black characters that approached anyone to write a book, that it wasn't the idea of the blacks to change the situation nor were they out to fight to get their story out.

  • @DaRunningMan What's your point?

  • @thrownover65 That "The Help" is a "white savior" movie which is a kind of movie Hollywood makes over and over again. It's insulting, limiting and it needs to stop.

  • @DaRunningMan

I agree the same "white savior" movie over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

  • @DaRunningMan Agreed, the black actresses are a bunch of coons and a disgrace to my race, only self hating house niggers would watch and enjoy this white propaganda crap!

  • @DaRunningMan In this movie, it's less "white savior", more "white enabler" to me. Helping black folk to gain the courage to stand up to the Jim Crow system in Jacksonville.

  • @DaRunningMan

I agree I'm tired of important social issues being told in that perspective over and over again. Regardless those voices should be spoken by the people who are the ones fighting for themselves.

  • @DaRunningMan *The above comment is silly and unimportant.

Anywho, I LOVED this! Blu-ray worthy!

  • @christianfilmer1500 "christianfilmer1500's comment is silly and unimportant."

    Fixed! :-)

  • I dont think this will get nominated for an Oscar because we get a movie like this every year ( Blind Side was a fluke). I'll see it for myself though, since I'm curious about this one.

  • @thefrickenfilmcritic I don't think the film will be nominated either but Davis has a good shot

  • the movie is not worth an oscar but the performances yes

  • @freedomguy55 Yeah I agree 100%

  • @schmoesknow viola davis won me over more than the others but the rest of the acting was still wonderful

  • I heard stories of my grandmother being a maid during that time and i think i do want to see the movie

  • @Gerod05 Let us know if you see it, if you enjoyed it.

  • @Gerod05 is your grandmother still around? I would love to hear her take on the movie!

  • I read the book and I'm ready to see the movie

  • @jassygirl0917 Very curious to hear your opinion

  • I have read the book. Can't wait to see the film and see if they've kept to the storyline or changed anything.

    Great review!

  • @deirdre27 Thank you!

  • I actually am excited to see this! :)

  • @pmunkyandpals11 It is a heartfelt story for sure

  • great review I saw this on monday it was good I dont know about it being a oscar movie maybe to early to tell, I thought it was really good though.

  • @moviefan978 I don't think it is an oscar movie either, performances yes, but not the film itself.

  • Wow, the Giants fan is friends with the Redskins fan. And, even as a Cowboys fan, I love your guys' reviews. What are the odds? haha. Too bad the Eagles are gonna win the NFC East this year. :(

  • @burgerboot Oh don't say it! dont say it!

  • Looks like a good movie. It does look long - I may wait until hits cable or DVD.

  • @tselliott It is long so I don't blame you for that

  • great review yet I am a little worried that this movie will not get a mayor release do you guys know if this movie is being played in mayor theaters? becuse they are not promoting it much in the city.

  • @Jockerlee77 I thought it was, interesting to hear that

  • great review yet I am a little worried that this movie will not get a mayor release do you guys know if this movie is being played in mayor theaters? becuse they are not promoting it much in the city.

  • Viola Davis great a actress!

  • @HBK7 She is a great actress and deserves the nod from Academy for this one imo

  • i am gonna see it and I Love Pie too!

  • @DHBarehand You may not after this film! haha

  • Agree all the way here. Great performances all around and Bryce Dallas Howard was Satan.

  • @ChrisStuckmann Man she was something

  • I have to say that i would never in my life see this movie. I also feel the same way about the blind side.

    Would never see them.

  • @cashmoneyyard This movie is much better than Blind Side, blind side had too much fluff

  • @schmoesknow idk i don't think i'm comfortable watching movies like these.

  • @cashmoneyyard i get what u are saying, i thought that at first and when i saw it, it was really good. you should see it. you will all laugh a lot and maybe cry at some points.

  • @arezoi i don't think so. They are just not for me.

  • @cashmoneyyard much agreed!

  • I am going to see this movie on Thursday and I am excited to see it. I really love Viola Davis and Emma Stone so hopefully this movie does justice to the movies that are suppose to show a historical moment that usually is portrayed wrong.

I am actually taking my white friend because this movie is definitely a "bring a white friend to talk about some issues movie" haha

  • @animegirl506 Let us know what you thought please

  • @schmoesknow

so I saw the movie and I thought it was really good! I would give it a 4-4.5/5 schmoes. I love all the characters (except Hilly) and the acting was good everyone was so believable! Hopefully some nominations (hopefully some Oscars or Golden Globes). Even though it was long, I was really engaged, never felt bored. Hopefully people don't think this movie is a typical "whites hate blacks" movie and really think of it for itself.

  • I definitely want to see the help, especially after your high ratings...but i want to know what you think of all the new movie trailers that ran before apes...there were some interesting trailers i hadn't seen yet: John Carter, and the darkest hour (looks like we're finally getting some non-blobby aliens)

  • @rugby2190 John Carter and Darkest Hour trailers might be some trailers we review

  • Comment removed

  • i haven't heard of this movie until this review...

  • @redrobin948 Well we are glad to have brought it to your attention!

  • schmoes are you guys fans of lord of the rings casue i just saw the trilogy and there eack masterpeices how do you like them

  • @bobertochuck I LOVE it, Ellis can take them or leave them

  • I'm a wee bit confused....one guy is known as "The Chimp:....and the other is named something else, right? Basically....who's who?

  • @MeenyMcSweeny Kristian is APE, which means he can be anything on any given day, a chimp, gorilla etc... as where Ellis is always the chimp

  • if you say this is a well done film then i must see this! u guys havent let me down on a review yet!! i was iffy at first but now im not thanks!

  • @LILJOKERDOTCOM Well if you see it, let us know if you agreed with us!

  • At one time my shmoe brothers we will have a serious movie convo I swear to spock i just dreamed about that happening lol great review still probably not gonna see this film tho

  • @VampireGuardian14 Well you may have your wish! Check out the blogtv channel this weekend, we are going to do a live broadcast of our podcast on BlogTV and in the last ten minutes we will answer questions from the fans.

  • I'm an old man of mixed race, movies like this make me cringe

  • @Skybaby79 Well I am very interested in your opinion on the film, if you do decide to see it, will you please let us know if you thought it covered the subject matter well?

  • Do you guys realize that both Gwen Stacys are in this movie? Emma Stone and Bryce Dallas Howard? What a coincidence.

  • @birdmansurge Yes, a lot of you guys have pointed that out, wonder who wlll be remembered as the better one

  • @schmoesknow we will see when the Amazing Spider-Man comes out next year then we can see who was the better one. LOL I think I'm gonna call it now, Emma Stone for the win. LMBO

  • You guys are really doing another stream this saturday? Because the last one was AWESOME! Do you have a set time? By the way great review as always, I may check it out because I do like Emma Stone.

  • @ahfdsk Yes we are going to broadcast our podcast live! We will let the blogtv cover it for the show and then at the last ten minutes of the interview we will answer questions from the fans.

  • Meant to say "Bryce Dallas Howard."

  • @grindhouse141 Understood

  • Oh, Emma Stone...... it's been what, a week since we've seen you last? Yeah I'm going to be skipping this one too (everyone gasps in surprise). In fact I'm going to be skipping everything until Sept. 9 when Contagion comes out. Leave it to Soderbergh to end the dry spell. Dallas Bryce Howard is very hot by the way.

  • oh so their maids, now i have to tell my friends its not about slavery.

  • No, I'm not looking forward to this movie.

You know, I like you guys but I hope you will be more conscious of the cliches that Hollywood imposes. In this case, the "white savior" movie which is worse than the regular cliche as it insults nonwhites. Hollywood loves making movies that involves a white lead that "saves" nonwhites that otherwise couldn't do it themselves. It happens all the time and I am sick of it. Recent examples are The Blind Side and even James Cameron's Avatar.

  • @DaRunningMan But she isn't the white savior, she is merely a vessel that is used to get the voice out of the strong women. She doesn't give them the strength to speak, they do it on their own will and Davis and Spencer are tow of the strongest characters to hit the screen in a while.

  • @schmoesknow I haven't seen the movie so I cannot speak in detail but the trailers give the impression that any positive change happens because of Stone's character deciding to do something about it. Is that the case? Because if it is it certainly is a white savior movie which comes out of Hollywood all the time and that bullshit needs to stop.

  • @DaRunningMan

but you have to think of the times like that especially in Mississippi. There were many white people who helped out black people and just because a white girl helps out black women doesn't mean it is a "white savior" I think if they didn't have somebody like Skeeter to help them. They probably couldn't get it out, especially in their town. Maybe up north but all of it was still harsh no matter where you lived.

  • @animegirl506 You're only proving my point by saying that they needed Skeeter. Thus it is a "white savior" movie. The civil rights movement didn't start because of whites deciding to do something.

The problem with this movie is that it is in line with dozens and dozens of Hollywood movies that have the concept of a "white savior" helping nonwhites that couldn't do it on their own. Hollywood has no interest in having nonwhites fight for themselves. There always has to be a white person leading.

  • @DaRunningMan

IF you see the movie, you know that that these ladies weren't dependent on Skeeter. Skeeter asked them to do this and they wanted to after an event that happened. It wasn't the black ladies idea and got some white person to do it. The black maids were afraid and helpless because they knew if they got into trouble they would have been killed or jailed. Skeeter wanted to write their story because she connected with her family's maid. Not some "savior" thing.

  • @animegirl506 "It wasn't the black ladies idea and got some white person to do it. The black maids were afraid and helpless because they knew if they got into trouble they would have been killed or jailed."

You just proved to me with that statement that this movie to a T is yet another "white savior" movie. Like I said, it was because of a white person that positive change comes to the black characters' lives because otherwise it wouldn't have gotten better for them.

  • @DaRunningMan she's trying to say the girl was empathetic towards her maid "friends," just doing what any good friend would do regardless of race. If she sees someone is being treated wrongly she would help anyone. She's not a "white savior" she's a martyr. (I'm being sarcastic, I totally agree with you)

  • @animegirl506 maybe up north? I think not...I have a father that was in adulthood in the 60s and a mother growing up during that time (15 year age difference, they didn't know each other during that time), but the stories I hear from them is that blacks still had to stay in their place and this was in the north. Which makes me believe, although they say MS was behind the times, it was more the case than not

  • @1feistydst

i know that the north wasn't good to blacks either but they didn't establish the jim crow laws there. However, in a place like Indiana i guess it would be worse because the revival of the KKK started there, so I guess it was different. so all in all, both had mistreated blacks but if the maid was in the north maybe they would of gotten away with it or not SO mistreated.

  • @animegirl506 The entire United States had Jim Crow laws -- the south at least was more overt about it.

  • @AustinPutnam Yes for sure

  • aww your a skins fan? disgusting!

  • @jagpunk86 I agree, he is disgusting

  • Emma Stone, yay

  • @mrebyers She is growing on me as well

  • I am really on the fence on seeing this movie.

  • @SeeItInIMAX It is a well made film

  • Man, what does he have against the hundredths place. lol, bad memories?

  • @BWGgy No need! No need I say!

  • I thought this movie was going to be good since I saw the trailer. I'm glad its getting such good reviews. I can't wait to see it. Thanks for the review guys :)

  • @LostFringeSuper8 You are welcome, it deserves the praise

  • Thanks for your opinion guys i think i might see this now.

  • Did Mark change loyalties from Wake Forest to FSU?

  • @Wes964 No but he should

  • That is a stinking Redskins hat he has on

  • Are you guys keeping a tab of who / what you think will get nominated for the Oscars? If so can we look forward to a video of your predictions? If not ... give it a thought.

  • @thehitman86 We keep notes for sure. We will have a prediction vid once we get deeper into Fall movies as that is when all the good Oscar films come out

  • Having read the book and LOVED IT I didn't think I'd want to see this movie but now its getting such good notices. FYI The south hasn't progressed as much as you think. I'm going to reserve judgement on BDH because I HATE her. Well not her personally but her work.

  • @aragon131 Really? I think she is really coming along as an actress

  • When will we see you guys rip on Final Destination 5?

  • @InsaneBurger Seeing it Wed night. Review will be out by Thurs morn

  • Probably gonsee this with me mom tomorrow, great review!

  • @MafiaMovieMan Let us know if you enjoyed it!

  • why is she not hot in this movie >:\

  • The character is supposed to be a frumpy mess

  • Emma Stone is really hot

  • @Tebay71 I think it is her personality that makes her attractive personally.

  • We read this book in our book club, here in Raleigh,NC. We all loved this book, half of us are from the South and the other half are from the North. I wanted to travel back in time and do some serious SMACK DOWN on some uppitty white bitches. We all want to see it together in the Theater. Cn't WAIT!!!

  • @lisawhite99 I am interested in what people who read the book thought, will you please let me know what you thought after you see it?

  • Nothing much to say here but that the movie looks good, but I can hold out until it hits the dollar theatre. Big ups for casting it looks like for putting both Gwen Staceys in the movie and it's great to see Octavia Spencer headlining a film

  • @tinomac07 Octavia Spencer is amazing in this movie

  • Mark, you're awesome. That is all.

  • @LolaMinny (Kristian cries in corner)

  • I cant watch Emma Stone movies without thinking of her as Natalie from house bunny..

Maybe I'll see this movie since the book was really good.

I love when Ellis says "Express yourself" then he throws the "Vogue" after it. In this review he didn't say vogue though :( lol

  • @FuschiaLux Ha didn't realize he did that before, good ears!

  • may wait till this comes out for rental only because this seems like a movie that a theater experience isn't needed for. either way, i will definitely be seeing this movie

p.s. was it just me or were there moments during the review where your camera got a little fuzzy?

  • @jaywd3090 It wasn't you, we are still mastering this camera. Should be fixed by the time the next review comes out

  • So basically no one cares about the "help", until a white woman says something about it ?

  • @JURYJOHMZOMBIE That was a major criticism of the book. I think the fact that the story is told by Viola Davis' characters point of view and the fact that nothing was held back and it wasn't sugar coated, I don't think it should matter the color of the writer's skin if the story is told correctly and depicting the times as it was. That's my opinion though, many others share yours.

  • @schmoesknow your right , it shouldn't matter the color of anyone's skin cause we are all humans at the end of the day but thanks for your insight and opinion

  • don't join the dark side!

  • @SirGomez81 By doing the decimals? Never

  • im not too interested in this movie mainly because of the tone and the writer but hey if you guys liked it all power to you.

  • @Kyoko019 That is what makes the world go round, opinions.

  • wow, i'm amazed. I saw the trailer and i was like "this movie's going to be garbage..." (mostly because the trailer made the character looks really cheesy) but hot damn! i will definitely be checking this one out.

  • @expIorer5148 Thought it would be cheesy as well but it isn't as all, a very heartfelt story

  • Here ya go Ellis: 3.14159265...

  • This looks great. Kind of reminds me of things like Mona Lisa Smile and Dead Poet's Society. The whole rebellion against an opinionated society thing really fascinates me! Plus, I love hating the horrible characters!

  • @Caradog93 And Bryce Dallas Howard is a HORRIBLE person in this

  • I have been exited for this movie since I saw the first trailers, glad to hear it's good.

  • this is an oscar movie? By the way, you guys should do an oscar prediction for 2012 coming Oscar Season. :P

  • @imdetamilboy We will, we usually do once the season gets heated up

  • i don't really like emma stone, i think shes turned into a one trick pony, is she any different in this

  • @scw1100 She is, I think she is becoming a strong actress and is pretty fantastic in this film.

  • funny ... theres two gwen stacys in this movie ... and no peter parkers ... sounds like a party to me

  • @SpiderFan3 Forgot that she played Gwen Stacy

  • wait a sec...this isnt about apes taking over the world or guys from brooklyn gaining super powers...its about maids...ok then

  • This movie looks great. Thanks for the review, guys! You guys are always fun to watch :)

  • @evoldriver Thank you!

  • I was always interested in this movie ever since I saw the trailer. It won't be a theater watch myself but a rental nonetheless. Great review once again gentlemen!

  • @BaitmanAndRuuben That is much appreciated

  • I thought from seeing the trailer to this movie, that it would be an Oscar film. I don't really like these kinds of movies. It is just not my type and I won't be watching it.

  • @chrisnap317 Well that is fair, we know what we like.

  • Great review. There's a book out by the same name.Always nicely done !

  • @killerrodan Yup, best seller

  • @schmoesknow Oh okay.Thought so.I saw it when I was buying DVDs.
