@AbbathGS I think Pat Metheny would be happy to give you an informed opinion on Eric Marienthal vs Kenny G. Sorry, unless Kenny has kept it all hidden in his entire published musical career, he's not in the same league as Eric.
everytime i see gambale taking a solo, i want to be a guitarist. and everytime i see patitucci taking a solo, i want to be a bassit. but everytime i see them playing together, its like fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
Why are the views so low on this video. This music on this video is a gift from god. John Patitucci you bastard! I hate you for being so good. Also, Chick Corea should be prayed to before each jazz performance.
I saw CCEB in Rome, perhaps in 1986 or '87 (Eye of the Beholder's world tour), at TENDASTRISCE ... it was an incredible concert ... what great musicians ! Except for Gambale ... I don't like his style ... think of this formation with Mike Stern or Greg Howe ...
@Shamanhearts91 You're stupid! Eric Plays a Mark VI! He's played the same one since he was 13. I've studied with him and you've obviously haven't. His Mark VI doesn't have a high F#, Mark VIIs were all made with high f# keys. So explain that!
why does everyone compare musicians and even bands with each other? there is no best, there is only the musician or group you like the most. For me, I place Mr. Marienthal in the list of names as Michael Brecker, Garret, Redman ,.. for some might be a good solo one with 2000 notes and 20 different scales, for me this is a Kick ass solo!

Yes RTF was the A team, but I wasn't referring to them specifically. A great musician, like Chick, needs at least one other great musician playing with him. There isn't much of a challenge playing with these guys because they're solid professional side men who aren't likely to surprise him. Pull up some of Chicks videos when he's playing with another great. You'll see that he's much more engaged than here.
@TRICKY315 Non of them are greats? You definitely need to do some research on your part. All of them are greats in their own right. Not just 'side-men'.
I'd say there's no reason to think Dave Weckl is a great drummer except for what he's done for technique and the state of drumming today - what I mean by that is everyone's obsession with chops and playing fast impressive licks without being musical at all. Have you heard a Dave Weckl groove that actually made you want to dance? Compare him to Tony Williams on Four & More, which one makes the music flow better and feel more enjoyable?
@Muso6291 You truly are an earless fool if you do not hear musicality seeping through every note that Weckl plays. If anything, he is the quintessential musical drummer. He's also played LOTS of simpler grooves with more mainstream artists. And musicality is when you wanna dance to it. Go listen to Lady Gaga, and leave the real music to people with ears.
well since im not familiar with Miles davis, i just recognised the tune from a buckethead song. whos is the prick some one how hasn't listened to a piece of music or someone who gloats over knowing a composer of a certain song. you are a mindless prick and your fucking wrong as sddogg has pointed out the miles davis version was infact a cover.
It is based off of Concierto de Aranjuez by Joanquin Rodrigo, second movement. It was written in 1939, and then covered by Miles Davis under the name Sketches of Spain in the 70s as well as by Chick Corea as the intro to Spain. Then Buckethead covered Miles Davis' version.
I wouldn't call him the best of his generation because you have to take in to account Joshua Redman, James Carter, Chris Potter, Branford Marsalis etc etc etc.
I mean, his tone is definitely one of the best I've heard, but as far as technique goes, it hurts me to say he's kind of a one trick pony.
