Place looks great. Packed shelves. The US media had me thinking NK was a shit hole. Nothing could be further from the truth. Everyone looks happy. NK must be a sweet place to live.
Now that's what we call the N Korean economy finally opening up to the real world: we now sell Nescafé, Coffeemate, and flat screen TVs! There aren't that many shopping bags, though: should we see a real shopping day at that store next time and see how many bags each customer takes away?
There is no heat in the building. Did anyone notice everyone is wearing winter coats, including the saleslady behind the counter? Obviously this was filmed during the winter season.
I hope Kim Jong Un will lead his country to a better future and improve the technology. Bringing end to the food crisis in NK would mean alot for the people.

@inkey2 It Reminds of George Orwells 1984, where they are only provided with "Victory Gin", or "Victory Cigarettes". The catch is they taste like shit......
It's a sad commentary when it makes national news when a store opens, but I guess that's a big deal for commies. The music with the people milling around buying nothing is hysterical. The only people there in suits are those in the inner circle - families that ae living in Pyongyang. The rest of the people can't get in, and if they could, they couldn't afford it anyway. They're starving to death.
@Teacupdogz Well after reading your anti DPRK satirical post all i can surmise is that the only thing 'starving to death' are the cells in your brain waiting on some sane ,rational thoughts to come their way.
@boombastic4eva They are not buying anything becuase they have no money! The average North Korean earns just £30 per month. Yep that's £30 per month. The reason people are there for the opening im guessing, is just for something to do. Its what is called window shopping. In other words walking around and looking in shops were you simply cant afford to buy anything for sale. These people must have a lot of time on their hands. Most items will be over a pound in other words over a days wages.
@emirates247 Wrong! They are not 'buying anything' because the store is not open for business yet. This is a ceremony to announce the completion & opening of the store for consumers in the future.Nice try tho...Not!
@boombastic4eva They are not 'buying anything' because the store is not open for business yet. This is a ceremony to announce the completion & opening of the store for consumers in the future
@boombastic4eva Ok,now i see why u call yourself 'boombastic4eva,'cause not only is posting that "N. Korea cause that place is racist, at war with the world and the people are NOT free." 'boombastic'(sic) its also silly, ridiculous as well as not true.
@boombastic4eva Whats true is that Korea has been the target of unjust colonial aggression over the last 200 years from Czarist Russia,Imperial Japan and now the USA global empire. The northern part of Korea, the part free from foreign occupation is continuing and perfecting the resistance to this aggression while trying to protect the independence and territorial integrity of the Korean nation as a whole. All while paying the consequences for it.
@yorubablk3 Your great leader has you putting this garbage on Youtube. You don't find that a little strange? N. Korea has some of the lowest income in the world, the most most captive, oppressed people on the planet, living in constant fear. Why would a "great leader" treat it's people with such disdain. If you love someone or something you don't bind it and force it to do something. Your polluted opinions and ideologies are not even believed by yourself, let alone the world.
@boombastic4eva U wrote "N. Korea has .. the lowest income in the world, the most most captive, oppressed people .. living in constant fear.." As i've answered you,Koreans in the unoccupied north of Korea r resisting a US global empire that sits atop an interlocking system of economic & political rewards & punishment based on the needs, whims & decisions of super rich white individual private owners of much of the worlds economy. They r heroically resisting this.I support that.
@waldopeppa If N. Korea is so amazing, why don't you move there. Luckily for you, you live somewhere that you can use Youtube, n. Koreans are prohibited from such things.
@boombastic4eva There is nothing 'evil' about the regime in North Korea. But there is evil in those who wish to deny people the right to b free of the US imperialist system on a national level if they want to be.

Yeah, that's really the most important thing people could buy. Seems to me that food and shelter are more important. Anyway the Pyongyangians can go to an amusement park for entertainment.
Interesting. I assume there would be unique and rare products to the open market. They should have an online store, I would jump at the chance to buy something unique to one of the most secretive countries on the planet.
You know what's really funny? It's not that no one believes for an instant that this is in any way representative of normal life in starving North Korea.
No, what's HILARIOUS is that the propaganda peddlers have no idea how pathetic it looks, from the outside, to make such a huge deal out of the opening of a friggen store. Ohhh look, a store! There are only, like, 100 like that or larger where I live. Even the poorest Texan has a Walmart larger and more full than that close by.
@LynxChan Whats sad and pathetic is that 'Texas' is just one state among many carved out by white European settler aggression in the western hemisphere against the indigenous people who were living in peace b4 white people came to fuck them all up & over. And further more,Koreans opening a joint venture mall with China is being done in peace and on their own territory as opposed 2 Even the poorest(white- colonially transplanted) 'Texan'.
@yorubablk3 yes, because nothing says "peace" like North Korea, a nation that has hundreds of thousands of its own people in concentration camps for the crime of wanting to leave the country, or being insufficiently enthusiastic about the country, or being the parent, or the child, or the spouse of someone the regime considers unworthy.
American history absolutely has its shames, but North Korea lives under the heel of tyrants today. I don't blame the people, they are enslaved.
@LynxChan yes, because nothing says "peace" like North Korea, a nation that has never invaded any other hemisphere does not have concentration camps around the world ,like the USA,or criminalizes entire non white groups like the USA or promotes gender and identity confusion as normal, like in the USA.The USA is a tyrannical capitalist world empire that has nuked Asians, enslaved & robbed Africans and still, disenfranchises the indigenous people of the western hemisphere.
@DerOldHerr U wrote "Acutally North Korea started the Korea war by invading into south Korea." Yep and if u think like that than u probably think peaceful white settlers minding there own business in 19th century North America were brutally scalped by 'savage Indians' and that nice white missionaries in the middle of the Congo were put in big cooking pots by cannibal Africans ,too. You're view of the world is upside down.
@DerOldHerr Well, if you look at it in context the invasion makes a lot of sense. Asian countries were bullied around by the western world, and after WWII especially by the USA, which still control & try to manipulate politics & economy in the Far East. From this POV, a war against a neo-imperialistic power made a lot of sense. And during Kim Il-Sung's times North Korea was the only industrialized nation in Asia also. But none of that changes the fact what Korea nowadays is.
Could it be that you are brainwashed by American propaganda? The North Koreans have a different take on that history. BTW at that time already borderclashes/civil war were/was going on. What about the Haeju incident. S-Korea crossing the border to capture that North-Korean city? These were murky times full of propaganda from both sides. The real culprits were the USSR and the USA!
@yorubablk3 Yes, USA is no angel, but North Korea has its own death and torture camps. They are visible via satellite image and lucky escapees such as Kang Chol-hwan, Shin Dong-hyuk and Soon Ok Lee have lived to tell. Everyone google "Testimony of Ms. Soon Ok Lee" for her account of North Korean "PEACE".
@johnmoreland There is no 'yes' 'but'! The USA invaded Korea, split it in two, continues its military occupation of the South & threatens the North which provides the national security framework for North Korea to exist in a 'state of emergency'.Let a hostile foreign power invade YOUR country, divide it in two, occupy one part while trying to starve out the resisting half where u live and imagine what type of security measures YOUR country would implement to resist and stay alive!
@yorubablk3 and you forgot to say the most important part of it !!! US ''slaughtered'' 2 million North Koreans during Korean War and bombed it into obllivion !!!! Its fact that USAF dropped more bombs on DPRK than on NAZI Germany during WW2 !!! No wonder the Koreans have hard feelings towards the Americans. On top of it the US never even said ''we are sorry'' for the mass loss of civilians and destruction of cities !! Oh I understand Koreans are worth less than little Zionist Jews !!
@LynxChan Korea & USA have their shame. And it's not just American HISTORY that is shameful but also its present. US foreign policy's just imperialistic in all its dimensions. Nevertheless all nations have stuff to hide, all nations have stuff they're not proud of. I find the double standard applied to nations like Korea unfair. The people there really need help & got help during Clinton's time. As a result the country opened up & stopped nuclear programs. G.W. Bush stopped all that.
@LynxChan And for that matter stupid ignorant Yank 50 million of your Bros live from Food Stamps that is about 100$ /month per person to buy food !!! Also your economy is imploding, 25% dont have a job or so and your falling into ''Martial'' Law for economical collapse coming soon !!! Watch out with NDAA you might end up yourself in a FEMA Camp soon !!! Instead of making fun of DPRK I'd start taking care of crumbling U$A !!! IDIOT
@LiberateNZ This is a grand opening tour. The people are not shoppers off the street, they're suppliers and local officials (like the description says). It's a ceremonial event, not everyday operation of the store.
@yorubablk3 You should ignore such dumbass SHEEPLE trolls !!! The Western world is filled with such braindead morons that get screwed by filthy capitalists and are even happy at getting shafted !!! lol Its kind of Stockholm Syndrom !!!
@elgall77 I did! But I saw other things that made me fool good for the sake of the people in North Korea. I hope their quality of life will get better day by day. For those who forget it, they are also God's creatures also!
@spaghettipolicy This is a socialist society.Prices are keep at a rate where people can afford them.
But In the capitalist USA what about the people losing there Jobs by the millions and the starving in the Appalachian countryside or the Mississippi delta"Or the 2,000,000 people dying in its prison camps.
Can they also go to the elite malls and entertainment centers of the USA?
@replikreplik Just as soon as the USA leaves Korea, opens Guantanamo concentration camp & the USA's CIA declares and opens all its global 'black site' prisons to open inspection and roll call of the thousands its incarcerated and tortured and killed in them.

maybe a few people in Pyongyang can come to this supermarket.
But what about the people starving in the countryside or the 200,000 people dying in prison camps.
Can they also go to the supermarket.
