I think the underlying political reality is-the solid majority of American's still view the Bush presidency as a failure, and so the political attitude of the country took a strong shift to the left. It is only temporary, and will eventually stabilize. But Rush Limbaugh and Fox News can't speed it up, as much as they may want to. Obama has yet to make a major public slip up and it just makes them crazier. Be patient guys, things will change.
Also, would we really be in a very different place if we had a Rep leader? Bush was as conservative as they come and was against abortion, but even he didn't change that. Obama ran on getting the troops out ASAP, but not so fast now. Bush spent trillions on a war we didn't need (great fiscal conservative) and Obama is spending on other (arguably better) things. I think part of the reason Obama isn't as well scrutinized, and he really isn't, is because now, for the first time in a long time, we have a president who is actually articulate and doesn't make a fool of himself all the time. That being said, all Obama has done so far practically is spend money (lots of it) that we don't have. Limbaugh actually makes some good points on that. But, not surprisingly, he glorifies the conservatives and make them out as victims.
As the modern federal government abuses it's clearly proscribed constitutional powers. Both liberals and conservative become more bitter over the fight. We have lost the ability to live and let live do to our inability to move to a state that better represents what is important to us as individuals. I think we need to respect and trust ourselves to govern rather than look for some great ruler who has all of the answers. I know what is better for myself than any one in Washington.
The 21st Century republican isn't as effective as conservatives of the past because they have stopped abiding by there federalist concepts provided for in the 10th Amendment. With a supreme federal government there is no escape. What is good for Californians may not be ideal in Montana. Americans used to be able to live in states who's laws fit there ideals. Although states may disagree on issues they still were united behind the concept America.

I think the underlying political reality is-the solid majority of American's still view the Bush presidency as a failure, and so the political attitude of the country took a strong shift to the left. It is only temporary, and will eventually stabilize. But Rush Limbaugh and Fox News can't speed it up, as much as they may want to. Obama has yet to make a major public slip up and it just makes them crazier. Be patient guys, things will change.

I think part of the reason Obama isn't as well scrutinized, and he really isn't, is because now, for the first time in a long time, we have a president who is actually articulate and doesn't make a fool of himself all the time. That being said, all Obama has done so far practically is spend money (lots of it) that we don't have. Limbaugh actually makes some good points on that. But, not surprisingly, he glorifies the conservatives and make them out as victims.

We have lost the ability to live and let live do to our inability to move to a state that better represents what is important to us as individuals. I think we need to respect and trust ourselves to govern rather than look for some great ruler who has all of the answers. I know what is better for myself than any one in Washington.

With a supreme federal government there is no escape. What is good for Californians may not be ideal in Montana. Americans used to be able to live in states who's laws fit there ideals.
