That was from Olympic Dam, the uranium mine, as the co's like BHP don't get rid of the tailings from their unnecessary mine... Nuke power is not needed, wind and solar are better. Unless you put strong regulations on BHP etc, you are dead Australia.
my God i woke up that day and my WHOLE house was FILLED with dust and i had to clean every single thing, including the kids toys! it was so annoying. we had sore throats and asthma for a week!
i had to go to school that day my cat looked yellow and there was dust piles every were and i thought it was a bomb hit Sydney and all the stuff was in the air
It's funny because it hasn't happened for soo many years yet it was featured in the movie Australia with Nicole Kidman in it. Another climate change issue......
I am so sorry. I hope that it will get better..what is it?? I am from Rhode Island, the ocean state..the weather here has been unseasonably warm...but I would be so scared...take care, we need you, David.
The dust storm has now passed. It's just a matter of cleaning up - washing cars and windows etc.
It was caused by unusually warm and strong winds from the centre of the country which blew several tons of dirt 1000's of miles across the continent and dumped it along the coast. Scary and rare phenomenon. All good now tho ;)
LOL buh some people dont realise that if u wash your car then u go and drive through the dust that it will actualli get worse.....thats what some people done in mi area......LOL xD
Well Australia is a desert. With its thick red-brownish sand and its hot temperatures, this place is the best to have a sunburn as well as Nevada. Although Nevada doesn't really have bad dust storms. You guys had it easy.
Growing up in west Texas, I have seen my share of dust storms. The worst were the ones in the fall because they would always pick up allergens that affect me and blow them around. Thankfully I live in east Texas now, so all I have to worry about are hurricanes. But I remember several times when you could look out the front window and not even see your car in the driveway it was so thick.
taree was a light orange at 8.00am and you could feel the dust on ur hands and in ur hair and on ur face it was terible and weiredly the sun was white!
i was outside in it for like 6 hours. i had to have a sleep just then i was so fucking sick. i breathed in so much. should i like.. be worried? haha...
I've never had any experience with dust storms...however I have friends that live out in West Texas and they have a lot of dust storms out there near the desert. IT's crazy from what I hear!
I live in the country outside of Brisbane. Its been amazing today. Merky skies thismorning , orange lunch time and the dust storm still hasn't cleared here yet. Can't wait to see what the sunset is going to look like .
G'day, we have had them before out west but this is the first one to make it over the blue mountains. we had some heavy lightning etc over Dubbo then the dust came and passed over at about 12:30am and everything just went red, sunrise was just eyrie. IMO its not the farmers fault but the Mines, they are just ripping the country up and exporting it. a good wakeup call for all the city people that the country doesn't just end at the mountains.
I can only hope that not many people were affected (health-wise) by the dust. I know more than a few asthmatics who have locked themselves up at home until it's safe.
Here on the NSW Central Coast it has all but subsided. There's still a bit of dust in the air - but nothing like before. Hopefully it won't swing back and hit us again!
we had an shoking amount of dust on that day and i live in Narrabri and i have allergies and asthma and i had to go and see centerlink that day D:
but it took me an lot of time to clean the dust -.-

I don't think it has anything to do with climate change. It was just a rare combination of strong winds and warm weather.

I'm not sure a dust storm that covered half a continent, a dust storm that could be seen from space - could ever be described as "easy"
OnePotChefShow 2 years ago
well compared to others it wasn't that bad that's what I meant. Not just your dust storm as a whole.

It's fairly rare to get them this close to the coast - especially when the dust storm was the size of half of Australia!
Hopefully we won't have it again :)

They happen a lot in Australia, but rarely in coastal areas, and rarely this large. It seems to be passing which is good.
