@TheTotalmetalmusic rng: random number generator, it determines everything in the pokemon games, its been broken(as in figured out) to where you can hit a certain time(and frame, though i wont explain what frames are) in game and get a certain spread/shininess, also a while after this post i found out its pretty much impossible to rng abuse during chains without a emulator :( but theres still always egg iv rng abuse which lets us have any spread on a pokemon that can be bred :)

I just try to follow the basic rules of chaining as much as possible, but chaining can still be very challenging for me, especially when chaining 1-10% encounter rate pokemon.

my highest chain was a 30 buweizal and i didnt even run into a shiny (i know i spelt it wrong)

At chain 30 you have a 1 in 273 chance in finding one, but it just doesn't appear automatically. You usually have to reset the radar over and over again to encounter one. If you do find a shiny patch at chain 30 without resetting the radar or in a non-shiny patch, that means your very lucky. I wish you lots of luck in the future.

You have to be patient because the shiny patch doesn't appear based on time, it's based on odds. At chain 40 you have 1 in 204 chanc in finding a shiny, so that means that you'll need to reset the radar at least 204 times, but it sometimes can take more or less depending on how lucky you are.

In order for repel to work, the pokemon on the 1st slot of your party has to be a higher level than all pokemon that appear in the area that you are chaining in.

Furthest one away gives best chance of seeing same pokemon, and swarm pokemon are ALWAYS easiest to chain.

Unfortunately, I don't. I try to stay away from the patch directly above my character unless I'm a 100% sure that I saw a shiny glow. With all of my chaining hours I've never tried to find out if my assumptions were correct because it's too tricky and I don't want to risk breaking my chain.

Thanks. Yeah, all of my videos are real. I personally don't use cheating devices like the Action Replay. I don't always film the shiny patch because it's difficult to chain through a 2 inch view finder on my digital camera and I don't like to risk not seeing the shiny patch. But, I made it a challenge to film a shiny patch in all weather conditions. I just recently accomplished that feat on 6/21/08. I'll be uploading the 2 remaining areas (falling snow and rain) soon.

Before, on my diamond game it was to show the state of my trainer card, 4 stars gold and to record the game hours played when I encountered the shiny. Now on this used pearl, I do it to show the game hours play when I encounter the shiny and to prove that it's the same trainer who's doing the all of the catching, me. It has since become part of my signature.
