He is definitely not overhyped. The Spanish league is really good. Look at the number of Spanish players in the NBA. Whoever excels there - and rubio did at the age of 17 - will excel at any level. It all depends on if the NBA refs allow him to use his off hand like they did in the Olympics. It *should* be an offensive foul, and the officiating was pretty much the only reason he didn't get completely destroyed by Paul and Kidd. Watch the games again, you'll see when you look closely.
I think this kid could be great in the NBA... most importantly, he'll be playing with and against the best... once he has quality teammates to pass the ball to, his passing will get dramatically better, IMHO.
Andrea Bargniani was not a bust. He averaged 15 points and 5 rebounds per game last season. How does that make him a bust? Nobody, not even the Raptors who drafted him, expected him to be a total superstar and they don't need him to be since they already had Chris Bosh at that position on the court. I'm inclined to disagree. His court vision, defensive abilities, and passing skill is quite good. Notice how every pass he makes goes right to the player's hands, right where it needs to be? Combine that with the explosiveness of some NBA players, and I think you will have little reason to doubt his abilities.

He is definitely not overhyped. The Spanish league is really good. Look at the number of Spanish players in the NBA. Whoever excels there - and rubio did at the age of 17 - will excel at any level. This is not some backwater collegue where an overhyped player puts some gaudy statistics together. This translates directly into the NBA.

I lived in Spain and I saw Spanish basketball. It is excellent by any standard. Spain brought 4 pgs into the NBA. That is not an accident.

He got three triple doubles and a quadruple double at the under 16 world championships. scoring 50 in the final. No american has acheived that.

Listen, Rubio isn't unique in his age. At 18 Lebron and Kobe were tearing up the NBA and Rubio is no where near where those guys were at his age.
The daily grind of the NBA is an entirely different world from playing against a team USA in international play. The ONLY reason he's being considered is because he played against team USA at age 17. It sparks interest and shows potential.
Right now though, he would get crushed in the NBA.

It all depends on if the NBA refs allow him to use his off hand like they did in the Olympics. It *should* be an offensive foul, and the officiating was pretty much the only reason he didn't get completely destroyed by Paul and Kidd. Watch the games again, you'll see when you look closely.

Andrea Bargniani was not a bust. He averaged 15 points and 5 rebounds per game last season. How does that make him a bust? Nobody, not even the Raptors who drafted him, expected him to be a total superstar and they don't need him to be since they already had Chris Bosh at that position on the court.
