just a thought when u have the gun loaded and the hammer cocked and the shot does not present itself u can then put it on safe and lower the hammer them remove the safty this will prevent unintentional discharge should you allow the hammer to slip from your grasp it would not be the first time a hammer has slipped would like to no if this would be a good idea thnx i gave it a like
I am looking to purchase my first rifle and am very interested in this particular model and caliber. Is the safety issue a problem that would make you advise getting a similar rifle from a different company or will I learn to live with this design shortcoming?
I just bought one and love it. BTW, this was entertaining but not near as entertaining as when you shot up your leg. The marlin 336 will make that more difficult w/ its length although the redundant safeties may be beneficial to you.
A scope usually destroys the fine handling characteristics of a lever carbine. Check out the peep sights from Marbles outdoors for the lever rifles and carbines.
@derekgrebner87 thanks mate... I would love to see a close up of how it looks on the rifle. Loved the video.. I just had a quick look at your video shooting at the pizza box.... =D I like the idea of a good set of iron sights as when you get up close and personal with a feral pig your scope becomes all but useless!
I made my own big loop lever with an acetylene torch and the end result was more of a teardrop lever... however its now very functional with gloved hands.. Best 3 bang for your buck mods on any 336 marlin are the following... Ashley {XS} Ghost ring w/ matching partridge front sight... Wild West Guns 3lb drop in Trigger...super clean glass rod break and my offhand groups shrunk by half...Allen 9rd buttstock cartridge carrier.
IMO a big honkin 3x9 scope dulls the leverguns best attributes.
Bought my 336 in .35 Rem from Woolco of all places. They were clearing out all firearms and got this beauty for $94! Long time ago but man what a great deer or Eastern bear rifle. Got to use a scope these days because of the eyes but this rifle is a work of art with iron sights that I used at 100+ yards no problem.
great gun. I have a 336 as well. inexpensive and accurate. If you like lever guns definitely take a look at marlin stuff, especially the 336 or the 1895 models depending on what calibre you prefer.
these scopes can also use other types of ammo. You can take this scope to 500 yds with great frequency, with some practice 600 is possible but that is very tough. Put the fps in the and bc in the calculator figure some math and boom.... I spent last summer playing with that scope very cool.
you say it is accurate till the barrel gets hot....how many rounds till that happens and how much is the barrel impacted? thanks for taking time to make the great video, much appriciated.
I'm only 14 and people often don't think I know what I'm talking about. But I'm a serious hunter and gunman. I have one of these and I love it for many reasons. One if the best things is the fact that it has a short barrel and fits me well.
Hey Tex nice video exellent gun i'll be getting a 336 30-30 soon probably. About how much can I expect to pay for such a fine lever action rifle? Thanks!
@Thelonesniper101 I saw one today at Fleet Farm for $400. Bought mine from my my uncle for $250. Very easy to use and maintain and is very reliable.. Light recoil, heavy enough to take down most big game such as bear, elk, or deer. Not really accurate past 200 yards though.
@Thelonesniper101 i myself have a madel 94 my grandpap has a marlin like this ill have to ask him if i can shoot it sometime the model 94 is a good gun btw
ordered the cabela's pine ridge lever action scope 5 minutes ago. Cant wait to try it out. The scope that came with my marlin is ok for a package gun/scope combo but just want to upgrade to a 3-9x. Not planning on hunting with the 9x so people dont waste your time telling me.
Man, this is one of the guns on my 'list.' A work buddy was talking about the .30-30, saying it was on his next buy list. Funny thing, I was daydreaming of it the other night, thinking of its pros & cons vs. a Remington 870 I want. I even like the .30-30 cartridge with its round tip. It just looks smoooooth :) Marlin is great
I didn't hear you mention "beautiful" .... I like those black rifles alright, but when my eyes get tired of staring at plastic parts, a lever gun brings you back to the truth. This video answered my questions on your setup I posted in your other videos, thank you for reviewing this baby! Your thoughts on the 336BL? (18.5" bbl, bigger loop, prong sights) I would consider picking up a 336 or 1894p (given I could find one) tomorrow, great guns...always will be.
@NoiseMostBeautiful well id say you can get the same rifle i have here minus the scope in the 336BL. Marlin Finally started working with WWG and Xs sights, I need to talk to biggers about geting a trij front post made for lever guns.
why did you scope a brush gun ? that rifle isint ment to be a tack driver its ment for short range shots like 100/200 yards a scope just makes it way more heavy...
I don't like mine. The only reason I still have it is because I shot my first and my biggest deer with it. I can shoot better groups at 50 yards with my bow than I can shoot with the 336
great gun i got my first deer with a stainless steel marilin 30-30 right between the eyes at 150 yards. i dont even think you need to modify one of these gun beyond adding a scope
the biggest problem with the marlin is that it is just so damn good, there isn't much of a reason for anything else. i like your mod of the oversized lever, the stock one in my opinion is rather undersized.
@derekgrebner87 I do agree about the action on your Marlin being alot smoother on the action than my 30/30 it also has a bigger cocking loop on it, although mine works pretty good for hunting. great review Text.
yo my tednuggent bro, nice to see this vid, i shoot a marlin 30 30 with iron sites for whitedale here in pa the woods are thick scopes are kinda useless ( atleast on my property) i love my 30 30
If you mean copy rifles no. Mine are the same rifle as in this video but I only had ejection problems when I work the action slowly other than that they are flawless but you can't always whip that lever around like a cowboy. Not if you're trying to stay hidden :)
It's ruined with the scope it's too bad

@keithsnow well this was my first rifle. only issue is ammo isnt too afordable anymore for 30/30 however a marlin 336 in 30/30 is a damn good rifle.
derekgrebner87 3 months ago
@derekgrebner87 30/30 is cheaper than most 33.99 vs 29.99

@keithsnow maybe you can look at a savage .308 bolt action, the ammo is 8-10 dollars a box and theyre the perfect round
