  • haha pooh bar is funny. i was him in a school play

  • i am going to be singing this in a G & S concert it is the first time i have every sang a principle role but i am so honoured to have been given the chance to be Katisha

there is beauty in the bellow of the blast

  • Who took Sullivan's delightful orchestrations and allowed them to be mangled by an eletronic organ.

    They should be shot!

  • Fantastic, I love it!

  • This crowd is lame...they don't knw when to laugh

  • Unfortunately, an amateur theatre group that I have joined is performing "Tit Willow" as part of a variety show.

I have wide musical tastes and love to hear many of the songs that originated in musical theatre productions. However, there are some songs that need to be heard as part of the whole production - in this case if at all!.

  • How can you take anything about this song seriously?

  • I prefer sir Geraint Evans' ko-ko

  • I prefer hot mikado.....

then again it may be because we did hot mikado.

    costumes much... cooler!

  • hehehehe they just sed TIT

  • Give me the G&S or D'Oyly Carte opera company any day, although this isnt so bad.

Any one on here ever been to the G&S festival in buxton, england?

it is the best place to see their operas

    and i go every year

  • I've performed in 3 of the operas at the G&S festival in Buxton a few years ago with Nene Opera! It's an amazing experience! Love it! Also not sure about this version though!

  • All the "business" distracts from the song and the scene...I suppose you can say it's just a different style...but his voice is not a style...just poor.

  • Hello, I'm a relative new comer to the music of G&S. I've always liked this number but I also feel like there is something wrong with this singer's voice. What is your observation? Is he meant to speak to strangely?

  • this production doesn't compare to any D'oyly Carte production, so give me the D'oyly Carte anyday

  • bravo et brava

  • David Collins was SOOOO much better in this!!!

  • I wonder...does it hurt to be this bad? G & S are probably spinning in their respective graves fast enough to power the eastern seaboard for several years...

  • This is a travesty, unmusical and coarse.

  • For someone that obviously doesn't like this production you've gone to a lot of effort to comment on every clip from it!

Perhaps you failed to notice the audience laughing. I know I laughed when I saw this show live. Give me this over D'Oyly Carte any day

  • Thank you cnbr85 for appreciating my efforts. Some of the singing voices are good in this production, and the orchestra do justice to Sullivan's wonderful music.

Slapstick drunks get cheap laughs but never in a genuine performance of The Mikado. Gilbert wrote about the way his operettas should be played, and this is not it. Nobody can give you the D'Oyly Carte performance now but there is a film record from Vai Music.

  • I burst out laughing at 1:39. Jon English is a funny actor

  • Yaaaay love it

  • LOVE this opera! we did this in school two years ago... i got to be Katisha.... soooo much fun. that was seriously one of the best things i ever did.. such a fun role :)

  • We just did this musical at school last weekend. I was Ming Chow. It was a fun musical.

  • That was awesome. 5 stars.

  • I was lucky enough to play Ko-Ko in a production of this amazingly funny G&S play in high school... Let me tell you, I can't go very long without thinking of the fun I had putting this show on, especially this particular song-couplet (did I mention I was also lucky enough to have the hottest girl in school play Katisha)!

  • eh

    i got the mikado

  • Is there a dvd of this available for sale?

    I would totally buy it

  • Yes, you can get it through Essgee's website.

  • have you a link you can put on here please *puppy dog eyes* i want to get it for a gift

  • Hehe, i saw them sing this on blue collar tv

  • Dickie Bird???

  • ah so you've seen that video have you? it's daft "Ralf: ok then sam you going to play the part of the dickie bird Sam: Dickie bird?"

  • Oh yeah. The muppets sang many classical pieces. As a kid I learned a lot about music watching the muppets.

  • i agree like schools out for ever by alice cooper from a muppets video

  • ANd the Banana Boat song. DAAAAAAAAY OH!

  • Yeah I wanted that part but I got stuck with male chorus. Oh, and I'm a GIRL!

  • I am doing this now and my Best Friend is Pitti Sing!

  • Me 2, I ama girl and I got stuck with MALE CHORUS!!!! Grrrr....

  • Willow, Tit-willow.

  • Bev Shean is fantastic in this - all the more when you consider that she was recruited just before the tour started to replace a prima donna.

  • i love her dress

  • Wow. I think these two (Koko and Katisha) did a particularly good job with these two songs!

  • I disagree, I think the arrangement sounds really dated- too 1980s.

  • that was wonderful! great job guys!

  • I can't help but feel a little sorry for Ko Ko ^^;

  • I also feel bad for Ko Ko, but he does all this so Yum-Yum isn't killed

  • I know ^^

  • I love the Mikado operetta. I was part of the cast.

Does anyone know if it is available for sale on DVD?

  • I read someone say that it may be on the ABC website...and if all else fails, try doing a websearch on Simon Gallaher, the guy who produced this.

  • I love Willow-Tit-Willow, and these guys did a fantastic job of it. I must get a copy of this, can anybody help me out, I absolutely LOVE Gilbert and Sullivan.

  • i love this song its so funny and i love this cast aswell

  • Heehee, she's fantastic!

  • Amazing! Well done and faithful to Gilbert! So few of the G&S videos here are of performances that actually trust the author!

  • rwexelblat: you haven't watched the rest of this performance.

  • Haha, the part drunk part by Jon is sooo funny.
