Even after the war he had federal soldiers punished in Texas for abusing citizens there, though many yankees did call him a Copperhead for doing so. The South did commit crimes too like the mass execution of captured black soldiers and the guerilla tatics used particularly in the West. Was either side squeaky clean?

@skiprydell1 : That is Damon Kirsche and he is actually singing. An excellent singer and dancer who's done some acting including a guess role in one of the Star Trek The Next Generation episodes. Harry McCarthy (the man he is portraying) was said to be thin and have thick black hair so he may have been a good choice. The husband and wife team portrayed actaully did perform for the troops in that area at that time. This scene is highly accurate based on eyewitness accounts of the show.
