Paul Simon is the greatest musician of all time and this moment left me totally blown away.It was like we where all up there with her. Truly moving beyond words.
Rayna:- You are truely awesome, a great singer, and a beautiful looking lady. This is one of lifes experiences that you will be able to tell your grandchildren about
WOW! What an unforgettable experience this must have been for Rayna, and she performed so wonderfully well! I think if I were ever invited on stage by my guitar inspiration (John Prine) I'd probably just freeze up and immediately forget every chord I ever knew. Congratulations on a fabulous performance, Rayna!
Thank you SO MUCH!!!!!!! I just heard the interview and I am so grateful you posted this. It has been such an amazing experience and I have wondered if he had been asked about it. I am amazed that he spoke about it for a full portion of the interview. Also, my husband and I were truly floored and know to know Mr. PAUL SIMON has watched our Youtube video as well. Hearing him talk about it just makes it that much more amazing.
i loved hearing you go nuts cheering for Rayna, you sounded so happy and proud for her.....that's exactly what a loving husband is supposed to do, good for you !!!
Rayna you really made me smile, so happy for you!!! CHEERS!
I can't tell you how good it feels to see you, a typical audience member, getting the chance to get up on stage and join someone as great as Paul Simon! We ALL can feel your joy and excitement! We are all so happy for you! You done good, Rayna...REAL good! :-) And it also shows how much of a class act Paul Simon is!
i loved this video , from the shaking of your hands due to nervousness to the beauty of the rhythm you were in at the end! my husband laughed and wondered what was your cut of the gate!
You were awesome Rayna. Anybody can see how much this means to you. But, it meant a lot to Paul as well, that he got the chance to fulfill someone else's dream with his song and his show. I say Good On You Both for this. And Rob, Good On You for loving Rayna this much. Isn't it a BLAST that there just happened to be about 5 hi definition video cameras at the front of the audience? Rock On Rayna!! Sorry for being so longwinded.
The song is titled, "You're The Hangnail In My Life, and I can't Bite You Off. What a thrill it was when Hoyt sang it two separate times on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Paul may have made your dream come true that night, but you made Paul Simon look like a Saint!! Look at him! He is grinning and coaching you along as if he were watching one of his own children (in music) riding her bike for the first time.
This was one of the top human interest clips that was run on TV for two days following that show. If it had not been for you, his new CD might not have sold half as many copies, and no one would have cared that he was on Saturday Night Live that weekend.I know what it feels like to get to fulfill a dream. Two of my favorite acts recorded a song that I wrote in 1977. They were Hoyt Axton and The Kingston Trio.
The song wasn't on Paul's set list for that night. It was an opportunity for him to close the circuit on that song for you that night. I respect Paul for doing that. It just goes to show you that as he has matured he has truly learned the secret that making a memory like that for someone else is more important than anything else he can possibly do at this point in his life / career. And in so doing, he has reaped the rewards.
I have been in this crazy world of the entertainment business for almost 40 years now. I "discovered," landed record label deals and managed a number of multi-platinum selling acts including The Judds and Terri Clark. Over the years I have been blessed to have witnessed just how much music truly means to people and their lives. We can hear a certain song and recall where we were the first time we heard it. This was just the type of thing that I love to see happen.
Wow, Rayna, you lived every guitar players dream! Congratulations! My fingers would have turned to rubber and I would have had no voice. What a wonderful moment, such a treasure. I very much appreciated your feeling of "awe." Thanks, you did a GREAT job. And thanks to Paul Simon for giving you the opportunity. Just wonderful!!
Hello Rayna! Though I have been playing and singing on stage for years, I have to tell you with great admiration that I think you have nerves of sheer steel! My fingers would have been failing and flailing all over that guitar and I wouldn't have been able to remember word one! Love to you for living the moment and celebrating something "That Feels So Good!" Play on, Sistah! Mike Morgan, Kasilof, Alaska
I loved it. Thought the coaching was lovely and supportive. I have all but worshipped Paul Simon since high school, and it's a real gift to see him be so generous with Rayna who seems like such a lovely person. Thank you.
A truly magical moment! Nearly everyone who I've shared this with, or the other one, has ended up in tears. A once in a life-time magical moment -- so glad you shared it with us.
I heard about this on the radio this morning. I have never posted to a Youtube video before and I have to say that this is one of the coolest I have seen. You did great and I applaud you for taking Paul up on his offer to join him on stage!

Hi Rayna, I wasn't just smiling, but ear to ear and tears to boot. If your husband wasn't excited, he would have been inhuman (and yes, it was a G, but no biggie). You guys are great, and one guitar player in Switzerland who learned by playing along with Paul Simon records thanks you for sharing your dream come true. WHAT A TRIP!
@MarkPJordan I too felt a little ashamed at my "coaching" at the time. But, in my defense, I was extremely nervous for her and never even realized I was doing it at the time. Now, with so many other videos in existence, I look at it as a document of my own personal pride and excitement. Either way, check out the other great videos out there from the show in which you can't hear any coaching. (See shirleyf448's video)
@StacksMaxwell Nowt to be ashamed of, perfectly human reaction to seeing your spouse getting up on stage with a living legend. I'm just jealous is all ;)
@StacksMaxwell It's SO obvious how excited you were. I started laughing when I realized you were shouting her chords. The love of a husband to his wife, pure and simple!
@StacksMaxwell Please, no apologies. After I saw the primary video, I stumbled upon this one and it only added to the authenticity of your experience. I laughed out loud hearing you yell and scream, calling out chords and the one *$#( you said out of sheer amazement and joy. I didn't even know Paul Simon was releasing a new album, and now, because of you and Rayna, I will be ordering it. Thank you so much for sharing your joy with the rest of the world.
Nah, the coaching is so awesome, the whole vista of experiencing this through your position as fan and husband, that's what makes this vid extra cool.
Rayna - how wonderful! I learned a lot of my early guitar playing Kathy's Song, Dangling Conversation etc. I loved every second of your wonderful experience, your great poise and great playing. So happy for you!
And if you weren't married already I'd propose. Such a wonderful insightful display of pure emotion and happiness. This was AWESOME for both you and Paul Simon and the crowd and now for us. Terrific job, done without fainting even!
beautiful moment...almost ruined by the over-enthusiastic "coaching" of her hubby. She's doing fine. She's got it covered. Step back and let her have her moment.
I am here on my husbands account so I could send out a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has left such wonderful comments and shared in this most amazing memory.
I am so very grateful for the experience. I will never forget it as long as I live. I am also very happy knowing that this has made so many people smile.
@StacksMaxwell Hi Rayna, if you're on Facebook, why not join our Paul Simon fan group - 'A.M.P.S.' - it's the old newsgroup which used to be called alt.music.paul-simon. There's a whole heap of us on there, and we've all been going to the concerts and some of our group were at 'your' concert. You're the talk of our group right now. We'd love to have you with us. I can't stop watching your video, your expressions were so wonderful. I'm in the UK, and you're famous there now too!

@StacksMaxwell ... Excellent job Rayna !!! .. I can only imagine how excited and nervous you must of been but you pulled it off wonderfully ... I can only dream of getting on stage with my favorite band RUSH and playing one of their songs with Geddy and Neil .. lol ... again great job and even though I wasn't at that concert I had goosebumps watching this video ... Dreams do come true .. for some .. lol
congrats and a great moment...we were center stage about 3 people back and were actually only about 2 people in front of you in line. Drove in from Erie, PA and just had a fabulous time, Paul has been on the top of our must see list for years. I was even more excited b/c my wife asked me before the show what song I wanted to see the most and I said Duncan!! You were just awesome!!!
here's another 'me too'. I was there - 2nd row - other side of the stage. It was the most remarkable moment I have ever seen. From all I've seen - couldn't happen to a better woman/couple.
This is my favorite video ever! I listened to her story on NPR and headed straight for YouTube. I love listening to her husband sing along and cheer her on and holler out the chords! Very sweet. Every amateur singer's dream! Paul Simon! are you kidding me?! Goosebumps and tears of joy for you guys.
I was at this concert having travelled from NZ (for this and the Beacon NYC shows), and standing not to far away. This was far and away the most thrilling concert moment I have ever witnessed. Very special to be part of it. You must be over the moon - and to have it on video priceless.
My husband and I were there for both concerts and saw Rayna that night and she was great! We travelled to see the concerts (from Topsail) and had no idea when we saw her perform that we were watching a fellow Newfoundlander! Way to go Rayna. What a shock you must have gotten! An opportunity any of us watching that night would have loved! You were great. So much fun!
Incredibly cool. a beautiful event, for sure.

I just seen her interview on "Out of the Fog" and then I just had to see this video. She was really good!
