  • I have been looking all over the internet for something from this show and now I finally find it. I've asked a lot of people my age about this show and they don't know what I'm talking about. I LOVED this show. I watched it from the first episode until the last. I was very sad when the show ended. I would sing along and only wished I could play guitar or piano so I could play along too! Thank you sooooo much for posting this.

  • Never seen credits done like that before, very original :)

  • The other theme is ok but this one am feelin most...

  • Alison LaPlaca's STAT castmate Dennis Boutsikaris reteamed with her for JACKIE THOMAS.

  • When they were husband and wife,Tom and Roseanne Barr Arnold were contestants on Family Feud. The episode had the casts of ROSEANNE and THE JACKIE THOMAS SHOW playing against each other. At one point in the episode,Alison LaPlaca's opponent was Laurie Metcalf, one of the ROSEANNE cast.

  • Stat was actually an ABC show. God bless Alison for keeping at sitcoms, even though she later became labeled as one of the "patron saints" of "shark jumping". After Stat, she co-starred with Tom Arnold on two of his series, The Jackie Thomas Show (ABC) and Tom (CBS, in which she played his wife). Shortly after Tom got the axe, she managed a longer-lived role as Catherine Merrick on The John Larroquette Show. TJLS abruptly got the axe shortly into S4, so the role wasn't as long lived as hoped.

  • Briard Buck from Fox's networkmate Married...With Children is resting in doggie heaven also. In fact,he was euthanized before MWC ended its run.

  • Bo,as Ben Coleman's dog Reuben,is the first collie canine actor since the legendary Lassie. Ben claimed that he named the dog Reuben after the Reuben sandwich. Since this is from the 80's,Bo is now resting peacefully in doggie heaven. I even liked basset hound Flash on CBS's The Dukes Of Hazzard. She's dead now also and so is St. Bernard Chris, who played the title role in the BEETHOVEN movies.

  • Matthew Laurance appeared in EDDIE AND THE CRUISERS and its sequel,if I remember correctly.

  • Corrections: The season 2 episodes of DUET did not show titles at the beginning of the presentations and the second episode of the series was not entitled FUGUE.

  • Isn't this sweet! Laura lovingly welcomes Ben into her home, they look each other in the eyes and grow closer face-to-face looking like they're about to make out.

  • I was once in love with Mary Page Keller. I'm sure, today at age 50,she's still gorgeous.

  • the first time i ever saw ellen degeneres was on this show she played the dizzy girly secretary, go figure she even had long blond hair...

  • That was before she became one of today's biggest superstars. She guest-starred in the series finale with the other newly cast actors on OPEN HOUSE,Philip Charles Mackenzie and Danny Gans. Jon Cypher also guest-starred on the DUET series finale and in the first two episodes of the spinoff, later being replaced by regular NIck Tate. Cypher went on to star on CBS's MAJOR DAD with Gerald McRaney,Shanna Reed and Beverly Archer.

  • During the Duet run,Linda Phillips lost her job as a film executive then joined Laura Kelly Coleman in Cornucopia Catering before working at Juan Verde Real Estate on Open House.

  • Duet aired on Saturday for some of the 1987-88 season, despite the fact that television viewership is low(Friday also).

  • I bet the words "DO NOT DISTURB" appeared on the opposite side of that sign hanging on the doorknob.

  • If it wasn't for the spinoff,DUET would have never been syndicated(broadcast 5 or more times a week). DUET and OPEN HOUSE amount to 4 seasons and in March 1991,the Lifetime channel began airing the series until mid-1992. Hey,these shows would have never topped NBC's The Cosby Show because Bill Cosby was King of the Network airwaves.

  • Well, Duet and Open House never aired against Cosby, so we have no way of knowing that. They never had a shot at even coming close to Cosby's numbers anyway because they aired on Fox, a brand new network that had yet to even approach the numbers of the moderate-to-low rated shows that aired on ABC, CBS and NBC.

  • You were right in your first statement. The Cosby Show was a Thursday night series that held the #1 Nielsen position for 5 straight seasons. Bill Cosby was already king before the Fox network was launched. American Idol already broke the Cosby Show record(and All In The Family). Fox's Duet and Open House aired Sunday nights so both series never aired against The Cosby Show. I'm surprised that Married With Children and the Simpsons didn't hold that same record.

  • Laura,Richard and his wife Linda all changed careers throughout the Duet-Open House run. Laura and Linda went into real estate,Laura from catering and Linda from a Hollywood executive, and Richard went from patio furniture retail to cocktail lounge entertainment(he played the piano). The parent show's most memorable guest star was the late Brady Bunch star Robert Reed who played Richard's father. It was that episode in fact, that Richard announces his career change.

  • When MARRIED...WITH CHILDREN premiered, the opening montage was similar, except none of the cast was seen, just their names.

  • This was taken from the Fox broadcast, obviously. This series had only one syndication history to my knowledge,on the Lifetime channel, and NOT in stereo. I would have loved to see Matt and Mary as a real-life couple. Mary has been married to Thomas Ian Griffith since 1984. Matt is probably retired from acting today. Post-DUET,he appeared in the movie SIBLING RIVALRY starring Kirstie Alley.

  • The theme was performed by Bobby McFerrin(he simulates female voices also),famous for his self-penned #1 1988 hit DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY. McFerrin also performed the 1987-88 theme for NBC's THE COSBY SHOW.

  • Before the Fox network was launched Matthew Laurance did the TV movie POPEYE DOYLE with MARRIED..WITH CHILDREN star Ed O'Neill.

  • This was the season 1 opening montage from spring 1987. When season 2 started that fall, the cast each had his/her personal scene. The season 1 and 2 episodes showed their titles. When DUET premiered on April 19,1987,the first two episodes,PRELUDE and FUGUE aired.

  • I watched every episode of this show, it was one of my favorites

  • The lead actor has a Twin Brother. Did he play David Dad on 90210 or his brother?

  • @harveysuperboy Matthew Laurance played on Duet and the original 90210, not his twin brother Mitchell Laurance. Both have appeared in numerous television shows. Check out their individual IMDb pages.

  • Coincidentally, Mitchell Laurance also had a new series of his start in the same month as Duet--'Roxie', a CBS sitcom which was spun-off from Kate & Allie. Mitch and Matt probably hoped that their shows would run concurrently, but Roxie was such a flop in the ratings that CBS cancelled it only after the second telecast (April 8, 1987). Duet premiered 11 days after the last Roxie broadcast, on April 19th.

  • I saw Mitchell Laurance in one scene in the 1992 thriller THE HAND THAT ROCKS THE CRADLE. He played an attorney representing star Rebecca DeMornay's character who was pregnant and lost her gynecologist husband to suicide and the couple's home.

  • I love this medley, I dig jazz and this is a great piece.

  • THis was such a nice show.

  • @Debutante24 that's why it was cancelled; only crap is allowed to stay on the air!
