Yes, wolves can bring down a bison, but the pack must be much larger then the average that most packs consist of in about 5-7 members. Wolves weight is about 50-150 lbs and height is around 3 1/2 to 6 1/2 feet long, so even if you had a full average pack of 7 members, the pack is still as a whole smaller in weight then a bison.

@1957stan Ever shot a wolf from the air Stan? I haven't. Matter of fact, I've never even shot a wolf. There are a few packs in this area, but they aren't bothered unless they kill livestock, or get too close to humans. These are the larger species, and yes, they are native here. I do know, though, that if they ever get too plentiful, or become a problem, they will be thinned out. Coyotes now, I have poked some of those.

well just to let you know, i havec done some of the aerial hunting and we do shoot to kill. keeping a healthy wolf population is the key to a healthy moose and caribou population. just ask BIGSKY what wolves can do to a healthy elk and deer population??

does anyone actually know how many wolves were estimated to have a balanced ecosystem in the yellowstone area? 450, that is the number they came up with, not the over 1600 they have today.

They forget man is part of the eco system and with today science it is very easy to keep a balance and all animals flourish. It is real simple understanding that man has hunted for 800,000 years and have always controlled the wolves. But they are brainwashed in school that man is evil and nature is perfect. They never get the full understanding of nature because most of their life is in the concrete jungle. The wolves in Alaska do not have sheep to kill. They kill their natural prey, caribou and moose. Some hunters feel that if they can't shoot a moose easily a short distance from their gas powered vehicle the wolves jipped them. What they don't understand is that wolves keep prey herds healthier by taking down the sick and weak, leaving resources to the other animals, so that hunters can get a bigger moose, etc. Aerial hunting is wrong.

Thylacines are almost gone now because of indescrimant 'control' dingoes are protected(dingoes are australian wolves)dingoes are now seen as good because they kill more introduced species then they killed livestock

And thylacines didn't kill most of the stock either it was later proved to be dogs...
