I always felt like this song was about a guy that likes a girl, but she has always been chasing other guys. So this guy goes home and thinks about her. I dont know if you guys notice it...but the end of the song the vocals became very desperate. As much as I love the song, it always leaves me a bit uncomfortable at the end.

He dumps the body in the ocean. At the beginning of the song it says,

"If you can keep a secret" and

"She turned her face to speak

But no-one heard her cry"

Both also indicate murder. Other than that the killers did say that these three songs were a trilogy so that's the most proof you can get.
