@rubberritchie i was thinking the same thing too, until i watched it a second time, the drill calls for them to support the weapon on their thigh while chambering the round, then they shoulder the weapon to fire it, the guy behind him fucks up somehow, either had his hand inside the trigger gaurd or whatever, and fires the round while he had it on this thing, aimed at the back of the other soldiers head....bad disipline, bad drill. and i would like to see the rest of the vid.

Some blanks use paper or plastic wadding to seal the gun powder into the cartridge which becomes your projectile. Actors Jon-Erik Hexum and Brandon Lee was killed via "blanks".  That is one of the reasons that military uses "blank adaptors" on their weapons when training w/ blanks.

It actually doesnt matter if it's blank or not I have worked with blank rounds before and during drills we show how bad it can be even from a blank round going off a couple feet away by using a mock gelatin head. it still manages to blow off a decent chunk enough to have most likely still killed him.

@logocrazy07 This is true but the distance here is kinda further than I would expect to see any signifcant damage to a hard part of the body (the head). The worst I would expect is a bruise or some bleeding thru the skin. But that'd only be for contact directly with the skin, this was thru a berret... adding even more protection. Regardless it'd still be pretty scary to randomly have the man behind you shoot his gun while aiming it at your head. This soldier took it relatively well...

The excess gas escaping from the barrel can harm you if there is particles in the barrel, these firearms are perfectly clean.
