Beats absolutely EVERY cover I've heard of this song. A brilliant description of sex and death expressed in such an erotic manner (has to be heard with head phones for a full appreciation). No one but NIN could do that. This is divinty incarnate.
Listen to Sleepwalk, by Ultravox, I have recently notices some cool similarities between the two songs, especially this version of Warm Leatherette, beat wise and all.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I like all the parties involved, but the song was too repetitious in the first place for this cover to be very interesting... disappointing they didn't pick something else.
Peter Murphy is awesome... seen him do a cover of transmission by joy division.. he's the only man with the real class and talent to be allowed to cover curtis.
This version of warm leatherette is well worth seeking out, is it available anywhere??
Excellent! Totally one of the best cover versions of any song ever. True to the spirit of the original, but different enough to make it worth while listening to.
This might just beat the remake by Boyd Rice and Giddle Partridge... Didn't think it was possible. My friends are more annoyed the more they listen to this song... I just love it a little more every time.
Murphy's voice is still going strong. He seems to be aging well, too. I wonder if Trent ever thought he'd be recording with Peter Murphy back when he was a kid just getting into making his own music..
i have to give kudos to murphy with his unique and funky style...but i would prefer trent on vocals....basically trent should do it all...nothin against murphy its just trent is amazing
I disagree. While Bauhaus was unquestionably revolutionary, they weren't all that good. Nothing Peter Murphy done has ever been all that great. When I think of great Goth rock / Industrial I think of Skinny Puppy, not Peter Murphy. Reznor has put his hand in alot of things, and they all come out pretty damn good. I dont think there is a single Peter Murphy project as good as the Downward Spiral.
And other members of Bauhaus were even succesful without Peter Murphy
Don't dare give Mr. Murphy critique, he was indeed a brilliant man, and Bauhaus is - as we all know - the godfathers of goth/batcave/post-punk or whichever cathegory you prefer to refer to. Skinny Puppy is industiral, which isn't even the same genré as Bauhaus. Reznor is brilliant, but his works are mostly industrial rock. How can you ever say anything bad about a band that has inspired both Reznor, and other great artist alongsides him.
Peter Murphy WAS Bauhaus lead singer, so how does this make any sense? I grew up listening to all that music when it came out... in the late 70's, most people have no clue how underground it was at that time
I agree. Gothic music has always been extremely reverent of its roots, because there will never be goth bands quite as good as Bauhaus and some of the bands from the same era. Industrial was an entirely different musical movement that crossed over with goth in the early/mid eighties. Peter and Trent are both brilliant artists, but quite frankly, their genres are entirely different.
Mother of fucking god!! My friend loves the original and then subsequently found this version. Holy shit - are you kidding me? Pete Murphy and NIN? I must have a version to buy - please someone - put one out!!
Applause. What a jam session. I would have cut my arm off - with a dull blade - to have been at that session . . .
What happened to my respsonse to fuelpants earlier this year? (1) it doesn't "suck ass"; and (2) maybe he likes the feel of handbreaks in the morning!

nice cover, but too much emotion in the vocals. The Normal's version was better because the vocal was dead cold.
