Mustaine only contributed to their first album, save for Ride The Lightning on their second. And he certainly had nothing to do with Battery, which was written years after he left. Face it, Metallica only achieved true greatness when Kirk joined.

Dave WROTE the song Ride the lightning complete, every guitar riff and vocals, but the solo is Kirk's. Also, Call of Ktulu has parts that Mustaine wrote and reused in Megadeth songs (Such as Hangar 18 and When). In MoP he was out of the band completely, but that was the last album when Metallica was fucking awesome.

I could NOT have put it better myself. Seek and Destroy is a fucking amazing song, and although his time was short with them, Metallica have a lot to thank Dave for. I love both bands to peices, they are my favourite bands of all time, I don't see why people argue over them. Dave got KICKED because he caused a lot of trouble to Metallica (e.g. Ron left because of Dave). I don't hate him, he's awesome, I hate when people over credit him.

You all understand that Dave wrote Seek and Destroy, Jump in the Fire, Call of Kthulu, Ride the Lightning, Battery. And tons more. I could NOT have put it better myself. Seek and Destroy is a fucking amazing song, and although his time was short with them, Metallica have a lot to thank Dave for. I love both bands to peices, they are my favourite bands of all time, I don't see why people argue over them. It's your opinion who's better, don't force it on other people, let them believe what they want to.
By the way though, Mustaine didn't write Battery.

Yes i believe metallica wouldn't exist without dave mustaine at all, but it would also not exist if dave had stayed in.

@jakeums77 in the liner notes for Kill 'Em All, Dave is not credited for writing Seek and Destroy, and I never heard anything about him writing or contributing to many of the songs you listed. The only ones I knew he wrote were Jump in the Fire, Mechanix/Four Hoursemen, Ride the Lightning and Call of Kthulu

He only has credits for CO-WRITING Four Horsemen, Jump In The Fire, Phantom Lord, Metal Militia. He only wrote one riff in Ride The Lightning, and one of the clean parts in Ktulu.

When you contribute to a song your name is put in the credits no matter if its a riff, or the whole song. Dave is credited on the SIX songs he HELPED write. Seek and Destroy is not one of them, and neither is Battery.

However, I prefer Megadeth over Metallica, and I think Dave Mustaine is a better guitar player. My 2 favourite bands.

Tenner wrote most of the lead but as he was not a signed member of the band, he doesn't get any credit and isnt mentioned. Mustaine says he gets credit for co-writing 6 songs, Jump in the fire, 4 horsemen, phantom lord, metal militia, ride the lightning and call of cthulu. Im curious how many he actually had a hand in. theres no doubt he is the creator of the sound.

@jakeums77 The only song he wrote was The Mechanix (The Four Horsemen). The others he co-wrote. Dave wrote nothing on Master or at least the guys didn't credit him. Read all the album credits in Wikipedia and you will see what he did. Tons more? James wrote like a good 70-80% of Metallica, Dave wrote about as much as the others. Dave got KICKED because he caused a lot of trouble to Metallica (e.g. Ron left because of Dave). I don't hate him, he's awesome, I hate when people over credit him.
