No they were not, the certain airbags deploy only when their sensor is hit, so that side was receiving the hit a tad later which causes the delay a bit.

Ouch on the Jazz/Fit... Nice work on the Accord! The Accord is the standard of the world right now even though it's boring styling, but the Fit needs some fine tuning.. maybe a lot of fine tuning... By the way to the guy who was bashing Chrysler, I have bought two in a row now and they are top quality, good mileage, and reliable to 200K+ miles. In the Honda fit, it looks like every thing would be alright. You may at a chance have some broken bones, but that's nothing. The car preformed very well in the head on. The safety cage remained well intact and all of the airbags did their job.

Toyota Camry vs Yaris did not deploy side curtain, and Mercedes VS Smart did not deploy side curtain either..

They were all equipped with them, do they just do that so they keep the repair cost down by saving the replacement money for side airbags, or are they just designed differently..where in a frontal offset the side airbag sensor simply won't trigger?

Wrong! yaris did better, because yaris absorbed much more energy than the jazz/fit did. fit absorbed less energy during the collision, that means that energy was transfered to the passengers.(thats why the jazz spun arround)

Energy absorption should be primarily through the airbag and seatbelt, then the crumple zones. Thats what they're included for!
