@ljtherock I think tacticly the officer should have stepped back after he pushed the scrote away and drawn his baton. This would have given him a better reaction distance and given an overt display of force providing a visible deterent and a more focused use of force when necessary whilst minimising his contact with the scrote. Use of CS spray would have also been appropriate. By rolling around with this scrote he leaves himself and his colleague open to further attack from others in the group.
The scrote was going to fight regardless and the officer was right not to back down in the face of him.
However it's easy to say "shoulda, coulda woulda" the officer was in a high threat situation and went how he thought best at the time.

If the police think they are about to be hit (as in the youth putting his head against the bobby's) then they are taught to pre emptively strike.
Technically, you are taught to hit them, and make sure they stay hit. The bobby didn't commit as he should have. To be honest, the way you talk to people has a huge effect on how they talk to you.
I would prefer offenders to be calm and compliant, rather than shouting and aggressive so why be overly aggressive unless you fear for your own safety?

@ljtherock I think tacticly the officer should have stepped back after he pushed the scrote away and drawn his baton. This would have given him a better reaction distance and given an overt display of force providing a visible deterent and a more focused use of force when necessary whilst minimising his contact with the scrote. Use of CS spray would have also been appropriate. By rolling around with this scrote he leaves himself and his colleague open to further attack from others in the group.

The scrote was going to fight regardless and the officer was right not to back down in the face of him.
However it's easy to say "shoulda, coulda woulda" the officer was in a high threat situation and went how he thought best at the time.
But any other country would have dealt with this in a far more severe fashion. But would the scrote have been so confrontational if the officers had more effective protective equipment and a society that would back them up rather than try to nail them.

I understand what you are stating. It is possible that the lad would have lashed out but I dont believe he would have judging by his demeanour. Of course we dont know as to what was being said in footage but his action was out of order and he is lucky cop did not fully exert his authority. Good news is if this footage is seen by authorities it will serve to prosecute the guy fully.

I agree that its not civil but my arguement was regarding the law not what is considered civil and not. If the situation is reveresed no one will accept the defence that the officer was not being a civil human being. Assault would be the first charge you get under law.

@shroomery11 He's not persuing trouble he clearly says "Back off" about 10 secs in, in an attempt to avoid confrontation but the chav still comes in nose to nose. The video starts when one chav is already under arrest, to me the fact the cop has him on the floor suggests there was an element of violence during the crime or arrest probably explaining why cop 2 didn't want the other lad squaring up to him. It's a policeman's RIGHT to defend himself when threatened.
