  • Kudos on the recipe, although being a Buffalonian by birth and being "weened" on them most of my life, your recipe is off by quite a bit. The Anchor Bar has used and stood by the original recipe since they created the wings, it's a tradition to say the least. The original recipe has a LOT more Frank's in it, as well as garlic, Worcestershire, Cayenne (for heat) and as you said, a "touch" of vinegar. All the same, it comes down to preference and they still look mighty tasty :)

I have read both accounts....one that is just Franks, butter and vinegar, and the other one that has garlic and other additives. I bet the first go was something similar to this recipe. Then as it was refined, other ingredients were added. At least that's what I am gathering from the reading I have done about it. Thanks for stopping by.

  • Nice try, but all wrong. The reason your wings didn't come out of the oven cooked correctly is because the actual Frank's recipie calls for a 500 degree oven. Too much butter and way too little hot sauce, way too much vinegar. No blue cheese sauce side? No carrot sticks or celery sticks? This is definitely not the original recipie. I'm sure they taste real good -- but they're not authentic Buffalo wings.

  • @wildnites558 "All wrong" may be a bit strong. There were celery sticks and carrot sticks. We made the blue cheese dressing on the side. I stand by my version of the recipe.

  • Great video. But iam sorry to inform you the sauce is incorrect. one part butter to one part franks. Add cayenne pepper if its not hot enough. That is the original recipe from the anchor bar in New York.

  • I made these yesterday and they turned out delicious! I put the oven on broil and did 15 minutes for each side. The wings were appropriately crispy, nothing like a mushy wing to ruin the taste.

    My girlfriend loved it so much, she couldn't stop saying how good they were! I will watch more of your videos now.

  • I have a little advise for your wings: If I got it right (I'm from Germany, my English sucks), you spray olive oil on the wings, before you put them in the oven? Just mix olive oil with some herbs, salt and pepper (maybe honey or sugar for a sweet aftertaste). Just take a brush and arrange the mixture on your wings. Wait for 60 minutes while you heat the oven, so the wings take on the taste of the herbs. I'm not sure though, if the wings would be "Buffalostyle" anymore! Greetings from Germany.

Guess what I am making for dinner? Took your recipe and bought all the stuff for a soccer afternoon with the german Bundesliga (there is your American Football three times a year on TV: Conference Finals and Superbowl)...

  • I'm 67, but way back in the late 50s, thats what we ate. Wings wore $5 cents a pound back then, cheapest part of the chicken. Fire up the grill, and BBQ them, then put on the hot sauce, no butter. I loved them!

    I would eat 12 wings, and 6 ears of corn on the grill cooked in the husk, that was cheap back then too.

The historic creation date for Buffalo Wings was October 30, 1964, when owner Teressa Bellissimo was faced with feeding her son and his friends a late snack. Having an excess of chicken wings on hand, she fried up the wings, dipped them in a "buttered spicy" chile sauce, and served them with celery and blue cheese dressing as a dipping sauce to cut the heat. The wings were an instant hit.

  • @BBQMyWay The one confusing part is that some people say use franks hot while others say use the ken marinade buffalo wing sauce which you find in giant food grocery store. If you can please write in text the recipe step by step including how to use sauce i will really appreciate it, since several people say different things its making this buffalo wings harder to understand.

  • @ProudSikhJatt Fry them up plain in oil. Mix hot sauce (any red pepper hot sauce) and butter, then heat up sauce. Mix wings in sauce.

    That's it. Anything else is just hot wings (usually still tasty though). KtC

  • Great vid love the energy. BUT... the ratio of hot sauce to butter is never less than 1 to 1, usually more like 1.5 to 1, with some skipping the margarine totally. A tablespoon or so will surely do. Wow, those were some buttery wings. Just some advice from an authentic former Buffalonian... cheers!

  • Not to beat a dead horse, my friend. But the issue is the title of the video is simply not accurate. When you do a search for "Authentic Buffalo Wings" on this site, you expect to get exactly that as the content of the video. Granted you disclosed in the video that the wings are baked but that should be in the title itself. "Baked Authentic-style Buffalo Wings" or something like that would be more accurate and would make it much easier for people that are actually looking for such a recipe.

  • I'm pretty sure that a whole stick of butter is 1/2 a cup, not 1/4. 1/4 would be half a stick, which means that you actually added 3/4 of a cup of butter to the sauce.
