  • ritalin..

  • is that stand up show ?!! :))))))))))))))))))))

  • @Cynta42 You say his talk was scattered? Try having more than one thought. Try having five. It's not surprise that after scientists have been studying long enough, they all go to one thing, what is the meaning of life. From Darwin, to Einstein, to Pythagoras, to every great thinker of our time. They learn that life and love is more important than any theorem. And you can see love, unbias love in children. They don't hold these grudges because they want to learn, they want, life.

  • @RecycledMana Well said

  • If he could talk about all of the topics he mentioned, why didn't he? He takes the absentminded professor routine waaaay too far. His talk was disjointed, scattered, tangential, and hard to follow, and I think a lot of this was owing to his affected "shtik." A disappointing waste of time as I was eager to hear from him. As a supposed genius, some of his suppositions, such as getting computers out of schools or asking kindergarten teachers what the future holds, are really simplistic. Pffft.

  • @Cynta42 He's not acting like the absentminded professor, what goes on in his head we probably couldn't even imagine. He has a brilliant mind, but he's also very hyperactive. To put in a cheap cliche, genius and insanity are always separated by a fine line. Your remark about being simplistic, he's referring to how we rely on computation probably too much, to the point where students have trouble with basic math because they just push the buttons. Also, he's talking about society in the future.

  • i think this guy is a lot wiser than people give him credit for. yes, he is awkward. yes, he is a bit too amped up. but he is absolutely in love with what he does and he wants to make an impact on this planet. very respectable and very uncommon.

  • This is laughable.

"Get the computers out of schools!" Rofl.

He has crazy hair and moves around a lot so he must be smart!

  • brother this is not a comedy show. you mised or picked out a wrong prophession. if this guy is some sort of a genious then i am chuck norris. poor americans u'd b suprised how school lessons can be hard in some countries in europe. much more harder and serious. thisguy is living in a cartoon

  • can someone please explain the quote at the end im only twelve so i had a hard time comprehending it. Thank you

  • @dragonwar55 My understanding of the quote is this: There is only one truth, one answer to any question. This truth is what mankind as a whole seeks to understand, and what inspires people to come and learn is this journey man is taking on the path from the darkness of ignorance to the light of understanding. Religion and science seek the same thing, this elusive truth that we are working to understand. I may be a bit off, but I think that's basically what it means.

  • @kilroy055 thank you! now the whole thing is starting to piece itself together =D

  • 285 people couldn't handle this man's genius and had a seizure watching this talk.

  • This is the most pointless tedtalk.

  • This guy must be an awesome teacher!

  • Bill Cosby voice?

  • Sure, he's smart and all. But he's annoying as fuck, sorry.

  • love to see people that do not fit into the mold that Government thinks we should be.

  • Someone didn't take his medications

  • Comment removed

  • I wish that he would have talked about radiative transfer in non gray atmospheres and polarization of light in Jupiter's upper atmoshere.

  • @MrSirwolf2001 Spot on. My thoughts exactly.

  • It's like his body is trying to keep up with his mind.

  • What the fuck kind of mushrooms did he eat? Give me some of those!!!! :D

  • Genius. His mouth can't keep up with his brain.

  • hes on coke

  • Marty, I think weve gone back in time!

  • @Sidious224 YES!!!! I WAS JUST ABOUT TO POST A BACK TO THE FUTURE REFERENCE!!

  • So... yay crazy person? :)

  • Reminds me of Mr.Fargus(Family Guy)

  • @DetestProtest That's exactly what I was thinking!!!

  • this is how a geek looks like :)

  • Albert Einstein and Michio Kaku has nothing on this guy's rockin' mad scientist do. LOL

  • wow! sheldon cooper on crack?

  • @fpg66 You have now made my day as giggles and smiles ;)

  • he has the best drug dealer

  • This is the Clifford Stoll who wrote "The Internet? Bah!" in Newsweek back in February 1995? I pictured a tweed-clad Harvard type when I read that.

  • Funniest part: Using a slide rule to multiply by .2

  • SORRYYYY but i Laughed at the start of this video....... for obviouse reasons

  • I love Cliff Stohl. Brilliant writer. His hacker books are brilliant.

I had no idea he was SO jumpy in person. i thought I had an off-putting personality in person!

  • I LOVE this dude, he is the real Dr. Emmett Brown from Back to the future

  • @3Glimpse3 that is spot on!

  • Comment removed

  • Reminds me of Doc Emmett Brown. lol

  • He sounds like Kermit the Frog @14:48...Love this guys humor and presentation.

  • I had a friend in highschool who talked like this, made noises constantly. he was a good guy

  • dont laff at him cuz he has a blue shirt on..dicks..it aint dat funny...FUCK BALLS!!!!!

  • Dude is on crystal meth, I swear

  • he looks like he has to pee.

  • This is gold pure gold. He shows us real enthusiasm! Tells all teachers find your light!!! Find your own way to excite people and make them feel the excitement of finding things for the first time! Don't make all students robots make them open minded! Let them learn! Really learn!

  • @SenseiEli This idea is prohibited by the U.S. Department of Education ... no enthusiasm allowed, find your light in the rules they provide and their guidelines. Robots and information regurgitation doesn't need enthusiasm.

  • Comment removed

  • i know this probably has been said before. but he is the reincarnation of doc brown from back to the future!

  • The oddest (most fascinating) thing is that I found him to be very coherent actually.

  • @shadowjsw

    oh you too?

    didn't know anyone else did

  • Man his energy. I would love to have this guy as my professor.

  • Man i was like that a few years back... Snorted about an 8 Ball of cocaine walking on my tip toes sweating like a muthafucka talking just like this guy not on the same topic but still trying to just get my point across hyped up lol... Good times i tell yea good times...

  • @mrluke93 Yea but this guys isn't on cocaine, he's on something much stronger: LIFE and the PASSION for it.

  • This guy is AWESOME! If he was a teacher he would get distracted sooooo much, but he would be very interesting to listen to!

  • What is it with smart people and CRAZY HAIR ?

  • I know a homeless guy that acts exactly like this...These guys could switch places and you wouldnt know the difference

  • Brilliant. Tears in my eyes when he quoted the bell inscription.

  • note to self - GET HAIRCUT

  • I know a guy like this.

  • Sweettt!

  • This guy is a walking stereotype for scientists, but a likable one.

  • @spaik007 No he's not xD

  • I'm exhausted after that!

  • awesome!

  • This guy owns.

  • highdeas brought me here

  • read makes learning fun

  • this is dead ass...u should read his article

  • This is the best unintentional talk on aspergers, ever!

  • what is this i dont even....

  • I recently received one of his Klein bottles from a friend for Christmas, and he autographed it and wrote all over the box! THIS GUY IS MY HERO

  • @adrianbatson Haha!!! That is just too awesome :P I can imagine him not just being content in signing the Klein bottle, but also going all out and writing all over the box as well XD

  • He reminds me of a really cool sciencey Mr.Crocker

  • And this is how the concept of a nerd began

  • Is this guy acting??

  • Can you imagine being stuck in an elevator with him? I'd kill myself.

  • @Vikings5000

    I'd kill you first :3

  • are we back in the future???

  • He is the epitome of "a mad scientist".

  • I think this guy is going for the crazy scientist look.

  • Somebody didn't take his Adderall today!

  • Wow, I just had the most remarkable revelation. Waves and the law of attraction! I have been wondering why sometimes things take longer to manifest and sometimes things just happen right away, if your own vibrational frequency is higher then it must happen quicker.

    Thats amazing in my eyes

  • Supposedly there is a fine line in intelligence quotients where those above it are no longer able to function in society. I think Clifford not only crossed the line but is so above it that he has returned to the realm of of functioning as a complete bad ass.

  • @mrshlmoltke Agreed

  • this man is just so fascinating. super cool!

  • It's the Elmo equation!

  • I love this guy!

  • He is fascinating to watch

  • @MrCIickHere heck yeah!

  • I'll have some of whatever he's having.

  • i thought seven could sing better

  • This guy is stressing me out.

  • he would be the best teacher EVER!!!!!!!

  • Its sad that people like this today would simply be calmed down with drugs because they'd think he had ADHD. Also, I honestly have no idea what I just watched.

  • meth is a hell of a drukq

  • @HollowFlight

If you think this guy would ever touch a drug you are misguided.

  • 14:48 271 Vitamin Water company workers saw this.

  • he looks like my history teacher mr. hart :)

  • By god, this man is Doctor Emmet Brown in the flesh

  • i love his hairstyle, wish he was my science teacher

  • how did this guy sit down long enough to write a book lol

  • Fuck, this is just like me sometimes, hahahahahaha!

And yes I have ADHD. :P

  • he is so smart that he can't control his body. His body is trying to keep up with his mind. I like him

  • You get what i mean

  • @isidim I see your point. I guess he is just an old man who cant stand seeing values of his time being slowy lost. The benefits of technology does benefit us more than what it's taking away from us, but it is ashamed that we do lose some skills and habits which I do think is just much more intimate. We dont write letters to each other anymore because there's the internet and texts. Our education now is based on a projector off a laptop rather than a blackboard and chalk.

  • I'm not buying this guy.

  • @AngryLlama well i think hes not for sale :)

  • @dkzboiy Haha indeed. To help clarify basically what isidim below said :) im not so good w words :P

  • @AngryLlama hes got aspergers

  • He is a showman and an entertainer using his scientific background as a source of authority. His content is depressingly scarce and mostly comes back to the same theme of technology doubt and rejectionism. Some questions he asks, and points he raises are important and relevant, but he is not at all learned. One do a lot better.

  • @isidim He wasn't trying to prove that he knows alot. He wasn't trying to prove he is great. He wasn't trying to prove he is smart.

He was trying to show his own crave for knowledge and to stress the importance of learning -'It is the voice of life, which tells us to come and learn'. The thing about technology is not rejectionism. I think its the fact that technology is changing education, whereas he prefers education to be more hands on. And that's why he did the experiment.

  • @KantutJuice Fair enough. If that's the effect he has on you (and others) then its a good thing. I have seen him before in front of a much smaller audience. He has some values which I respect but a lot of it comes down to warning us to put the breaks on when adopting new technology - in the case of the seminar it was about libraries and how we were abandoning the precious skills and knowledge of librarians in favor of computerized catalogs. My answer to this is: how to keep these features.

  • @KantutJuice For example: the ability to browse library shelves is one we should preserve if possible. But in the entire seminar, this was the only point, though all the hand waving, he made. I guess he can be inspirational mbut I think we have serious problems to get down to.

  • He is fascinating to watch, I'm not sure how prolific he is as a speaker, but certainly you can see all that math going through his head. I get sort of like this too, hyper, I shake a bit and it affects my voice, when I'm excited. It always bothered people. This guy makes me feel like. Well who cares about them. I'm making something beautiful in my mind.

  • Watching this guy is amazing. It's like watching me think.... I too have ADHD and this is astounding to think I could possibly talk in TED in the future, hyper actively, while trying to get my point across and be listened to and not disowned by society as someone with a hyperactivity 'disorder'.

  • Holy triplecrap

    I love this man.

  • so weird he must be a genius. right? bleh. i'm not buying it. all i know is i didn't have adhd before watching this, and now i do.

  • his voice reminds me of goofy

  • :) stupid teens are stupid.... this guy is a genius. his energy makes me happy that there are people out there still happy doing this instead of regurgitating information into data then telling someone that information so they can announce it to the general public in such a way that they can understand without getting their little tiny brains jumbled up

  • Relax!

  • FUCK!! HES ON COKE! DAT PURE COLOMBIAN WHITE

  • I wish I had more teachers like him! I've learned more about the world and about myself in the past 5 days watching TedTalks, than I have for the past 15 years going to school.

  • @AnnaZnna I don't even know how I got here but all the stuff they tell is what I allready know. I'm 15 and I think I have more life experience than anyone else at this age :O WE DON'T NEED TEACHERS!!!

  • XTC instead of Vitame C? ^^

  • The cop chase scene reminded me of Shaggy running from a monster.

  • So he was saying?

  • i want him as a science teacher.

  • cocaine is a hell of a drug

  • This is my fav lecture in TEDtalks.

  • tweak and mushrooms

  • GREAT SCOTT!!!

  • hes like some version of Mr Bean the Scientist .. xD

  • @MidlandPredator back to the future mr bean

  • where's the dolorean ?? lol

  • It's funny because I'm watching this on my school's computer.

  • If Ross Noble was a scientist.

  • Dis Guy Is Super Blazed

  • MARTY I THINK WE'VE GONE BACK IN TIME

  • This is the most awesome guy, ever! I so wish he was my science teacher back in school. All my teachers were dull people with no passion for the subject. Luckily, science has always been my greatest passion in life, and my interest never dimished. Instead it growed steadily. I'm glad we have the internet to share these things now a days.

  • amazing

  • you need an open mind for the ted stuff

  • This is just more proof that I'm never going to grow out of ADHD.

  • Comment removed

  • Would have been more informative if he had just gotten straight to the point and discussed the issues currently perplexing and intriguing him.

  • i love this man.

  • sync

  • I love Scientists!!!

  • So seriously... what's the video about?

  • @hachakaza This video is about a man who's brain is on steroids

  • @hachakaza , all those that gave his comment a thumbs up, and every other brain dead slug who put similar comments...

Turn off your PC and go stick another burger in your fat ignorant faces. Hopefully you'll die before you breed.

  • @swinkyuk Stop trying to feel special. You're a loser.

  • @iiwDgiB hit a nerve did I?

  • @swinkyuk indeed.

  • Does he ever stop moving??? How does he work in any sort of professional setting, let alone some sort of lab setting or with a telescope? Or is he tweaking out on coffee here?

  • @zeppelin0110 A workplace can be adjusted after the worker, how could that workplace not be made so he can move arround a lot?

    Or he's just nervous

  • @zeppelin0110 And it's a kind of freedom

  • @zeppelin0110 That's what you call, "a mad scientist".

  • music, numbers ,and words changed the world

  • The character Jordan from "Real Genius" (1985) kind of reminds me of Stoll except she's still nowhere near as hyper.

  • educational comedy

  • This is what they call mania.

  • I'd love to comment on this, but I doubt many people would be interested in what I have to say, so I'm not going to do that.

  • @Fro0lik then fuck outta here

  • @Fro0lik i care bro

  • This guy is both intriguing and hilarious!
