  • Best bass solo on tube - according to who?

I love you tube when you can watch a person play something and then maybe, just maybe learn it yourself. Its like the teacher imparting his knowledge. What I don't like is pricks just showing off

  • FYII, I put the video up and titled it. The bass player had nothing to do with it. From what I know, he is a very humble person.

  • is that a squier vintage modified? xd

  • i'd probably say not. looks like it might be a lakland.

  • i dont like the drummer..

  • Can the drummer just STFU and play a groove and let the man do his thing? I HATE drummers who feel the need to fill and accent EVERY little thing. UGH !!!

  • Hey calm down

  • not bad but seen better

  • haha! Like some kind of old Yorkshire farmer "on t- you tube"

  • 3 out of 5 for the title

  • quite good but not the best

  • Nett schlecht Bua.

  • sadly yes

  • el bateria sobra

  • Great bass solo! Probably should change the name though. A little misleading...

  • yer i agree not the best but its pretty good

  • checkout victor wooten

  • Victor Wooten's the shiznit

  • everyone forgets geezer butler. hes a great bass player. my favorite anywho. this guys pretty sick anyways

  • best bass solo in u tube....i dun know...but its really great ...:)

  • this dude is solid. not the best but very good xD

  • Linley Marthe

  • This guy is pretty good...but...not the best. Sorry. Give me Victor Wooten, Billy Sheehan, Mark King and the most innovative of all...Jaco Pastorious!

  • yea jaco pastorious rocks

  • ..I dig this...its great.....and some may say its the best....I say....GO DEEP!!

  • Cool vid, but u wanna check out Mark King, he's da best

  • I don't think so. There are a lot of bassists much better this one.

  • So what are you implying that he's the best metal player or the best bass player? If you're referring to the former then maybe because i don't listen to metal, but if you're referring to the latter then hell no, he couldn't even be Victor Wooten's roadie.

  • What the hell have you been smoking, no disrespect to Cliff because he passed away, but Cliff was not that good of a bass player. Either you don't know much about bass players or you're not that good of a musician (beginner) or you just can't play at all, but that comment is wack!!!

  • Cliff Burton was Amazing but i agree he is not the best i mean b4 metallica he practiced 8 hours a day everyday 23 years later maybe he could have the best title it goes to billy sheehan Folks look him up les claypools a good one too but his style is just slap and pop with a funky tone

  • Ok enough is enough. To set the record straight, Flea is a good bass player, but not on the level of the Masters Stanley Clarke, Victor Wooten and Marcus Miller. It's like comparing Larry Bird to Michael Jordan, Bird was good, but Jordan was on another level. Not to take anything away from Flea, he doesn't have the technical bass playing skills to be compared to Clarke, Wooten, and Miller. Now Jaco Pastorius had the talent to mentioned with them, but not Flea.

  • Great pharsing and sense of melody. I like the tone for what youre doing too. You have a really clear sounding "B."

    Thanks for posting.

  • the drummers pretty decent, its just what he was made to play didn't exactly compliment the solo

  • by far not the best bass solo on youtube, but its a very good solo though. one thing: the drummer sucks!!! leave teh bassplayer alone!!

  • Nothing special. Mark King is King.

  • i think flea is way more of a well rounded bassist than people give him credit for.

  • the drummer sucks...

  • not even close to it

  • More of a planned out groove than a solo from the sound of it. Not bad though. Only problem I have with this is that it looks like he's using a Marcus Miller custom Fender and he's not pulling a very clear sound out of it. To much treble in the sound =/ but this is, of course, all just opinion and I'm in no way saying that he isnt a talented player

  • cool! Definitely influenced by Marcus Miller, among others. Very Strong.

  • meh...

  • nice solo... i like the tone of his bass...

  • yeah i think the best bassist player is VICTOR WOOTEN. that guy know how to do shit. i mean fleas is just slapping and harsh covering all the gaps in the music but i think VICTOR WOOTEN is the best.if it weren't for him,. i wouldn't of gotten as far where i am now.

    by the way, nice solo.

  • Agreed

  • yup

  • I bet if you called this the worst bass solo everyone would be defending it. It's a very cool solo.

  • i do not agree that this is the best bass solo on youtube - it's more based on a grove along with drums, than actually a free improvising over scales...

  • easily

  • A nice mid-range and low-end groove. Well done.

A Marcus Miller fan, too, I see. That's worth a couple stars right there.

The drummer didn't do the bassist any justice. :\

  • not the best but a very nice groove

  • arf I prefer flea

  • flea? LOL!

  • not bad, not bad, but not the best. still 5 stars

  • Nice Bass solo. But i wouldn't use the term "Best". Sometimes the BEST thing to do is to be modest and just try to explain that you want to do the best you can. Because in the end we can only do what our mind soul and body is able to do. And let everybody decide for themselves what they think is best.

    The title is very cocky.

The bass solo is on a good level.

Is the one who posted this vid a fan?

If so, then go for it. Its your opinion,

you like it. and thats most important.

  • quit takin it so literal, its obviously a gimmick just to get people like you and me to watch it

  • cliff burton pullin teeth??

  • nothing special

  • Good bass, but I agree, the drummer is rhythm-deaf. I would prefer to hear the bass alone.

  • this is very good... but the 'best' it's not. What's sad to me though is these players all paid dues and learned their instruments, and what's the reward? A half empty club likely filled with like minded musicians! Don't you just hate that?

  • pretentious as all hell. why does everyone think they're the best?

  • I agree. Theres a bunch of pretentious cocksuckers on youtube for some reason.

  • no doubt.

  • false advertisement

  • Drummer was trying too hard, his timing was off... BASS wuz NOT the greatest... but ok. I really like the bass' tone... kinda like a Marcus Miller kind of thing but without the chops. :-(

  • nice, but not da best

  • good yes, THE best no

  • ... and I am shocked that nobody (as far as I saw) mentioned Gary Willis! He is another amazingly creative bassist who has pushed the boundaries of the instrument to an amazing degree. His work with Tribal Tech is a must-hear for any serious bass player or bass fan. Check out his harmonic work and lyricism on "The Necessary Blonde" ... incredible.

  • O.K. ... so that was an impressive marketing technique ... but when the cleverness of the advertisement outshines the product, it will lead to many disappointed customers, as well as a shytload of criticisms ... criticisms I'm sure this guy doesn't deserve. But as you started this conversation ... Victor Wooten is an amazingly creative being. He not only has technique and mastery of groove, but he is versatile. Check out his work with VitalTechTones w/Steve Smith and Scott Henderson.

  • It sounds aight..but the drummer is wack..

  • Nice solo but whoever titled the best on You Tube should be shot.

  • nice groove. but if there were no drums in his solo i dont think it will sound this nice..

  • Man... that bass is bright haha.

  • he must b a fan of marcus miller

  • maybe..

  • Nah...Check out Victor Wooten, Jeff Berlin or Billy Sheehan.

  • maybe the best at trying to be the best

  • LoL it's funny reading all these comments. Good player but why put yourself out there and say best?

  • a miller fan

  • esta bien el tipopero no es el mejor. Flea es el señor de los slaps

  • why best?

i can play and i just have i year plaing

  • Almost like Flea :-), nice vid

  • Porco diaz k merda

  • KILLER.

  • Yeah, you should hear Mel Brown. Look him up on you tube. What is the drummer doing? He's walking all over the soloist rather than accompanying him.

  • can he copy any thing else from marcus miller?

  • oh yea... slap that thing!

  • he's good but theres a gap from there to be the best in YT

  • psh ive heard WAY better from les claypool

  • im not gonna lie, ive heard it a lot, and i can play the exact same thing only without it being slapped. its just scales up and down with some nice melodies in the middle + sum slap. but again, not the BEST!

  • This makes me want to sleep.

  • That's nice. Thanks for posting your comment!

  • And I have a right to debate your comment. Also, I thank you for taking the time to post the comment. I just like to make sure that people know that TODD DID NOT TITLE THIS VIDEO! He is a very humble person, a gentleman, and a friend. My friends and I here in Miami support him and love to see his views go up. That's the reason I named it "The Best." And to be honest, I haven't seen one I like better.

  • YOU SAID "but be honest about who you are and what your abilities are"

AND SO I SAID: lol...ok, let's try this again. I'm Kate and helped Todd get (currently) 73,150 views.

That's all I'm saying. It's one of my Channels, not Todd's, and I have the right to title it what I want.

  • "but be honest about who you are and what your abilities are"...lol...ok, let's try this again. I'm Kate and helped Todd get (currently) 73,150 views.

  • Hi, I'm Kate. I list videos so that the musicians get exposure. I chose the title for that reason. I do think Todd Hunter is absolutely exceptional as I've seen him play countless brilliant solos. Thanks for watching!

  • groovy co-operation!

  • try cliff burton is the best bassist, or some black guy somewhere but ya not that good that style died back in like what the 60s and 70s

  • um act.. i think cliff burton the one who dead....

  • nice

  • I dig this solo it may not be the best on youtube but still this guy is badass, and speaking as a bassist, this man is a beast

  • For all you guyx who are talking out the side of your neckz...Todd Hunter didnt post this video the one who recorded this posted it!!!!!...So we all know Vic is the best...He's my idol of course...But this Todd Hunter is VISCIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...Look at his enthusiasm..He's a beast..Post more of him fuk the haters!!!

  • amazing m8

  • And btw the best drummer, too.

  • Ok Big Tony! lol! jj!

  • not all radio music is commercial, you have Internet radio and satalite radio, no commercials. Besides its just a trick, I would take Marcus or Stanley any day, it about the music not the speed and and hard it is to do something. check marcus millers scoop on youtube real bass playing music

  • I dont think its the best but its pretty good, I get so tired of hearing all that Victor Wooton mess, its fast and a good trick but its not music thats why you dont hear it on the radio, or on any songs

  • Nice T!!

  • Geddy Lee is better

  • pretty good but there are better on youtube.

  • awesome sound...hes great...in his own style...you cant really compare him to flea cuz flea works with a lot of hammer ons

  • Flea took lots of speed drugs, that was his style and I don't think he's all that. I mean come on, the name says it all.

  • agreed. Best is subjective. Gianni Serino is possibly the most awesome bass player I ever heard....but he would be wasted in the Sex Pistols. :)

No disrespect meant to the Pistols.

  • THE OX

  • its good but its nowhere near the best

  • I've played with Todd for years. He's definitely one of the best. Todd is South Florida's premier bass player!!

  • It doesn't have to be the best. Every Bassist has his or her own style. I myself do not solo like that.

  • fuck no dude

  • les claypool i think is better than stuart ham

  • Todd is def. a gifted player. i like your choices as well.

  • Not bad, man

  • Best I've heard yet. Five stars!!!

  • best?! xD haha noob

  • best??? go watch a bass solo by flea or john entwhistle

  • cliff burton ftw.

  • Yea, You are right about putting him down. As I stated to you, I was a bit out of line. Todd is a very good player, However the point I was making is this in no way could qualify as "Best bass solo". Thanks for the Myspace info about Todd. I've seen him play live before. I do dig his stuff.

    Blessings to you........

  • Thank you! You too! I wanted to get him exposure and the title worked. I've seen Todd play many, many best bass solos.

  • Very Cool MsFire!! That was a great marketing tool. You are right about putting a title like "The best Bass solo". That will get the attention of the fanatic Bass players that cruise "You Tube" to see what kind of talent is springing up. I gotta hand it to ya, Great Job !!!!!!

    Blessings.

  • That is really kind! Thank you! Lots of comments too, and lots of discussion. I love it!

  • If you have nothing nice to say...

  • Yawn.......I know we all have seen this type of "Slap Happy" up and down the scales stuff a million times. He does have a nice "Fat" slap sound. If 61,372 people watched this. I have hopes that I could have 61,373 watch mine.................Stay tuned

  • So what if you've seen this type of "slap happy," as you call it, this is like 20 sec of his playing out of hours that night. The person who filmed all these different artist on this page (me!), is as everyone knows by now, not the bass player! This vid has 118 ratings, 238 text comments, and 61,000 and climbing views. So take that!

  • Point well taken Mr.305Live. "I don't play em much, I pay em".(Major label). Perhaps I was a bit hasty in my assessment, However I'm sure you will agree that this doesn't enter the relm of "Best" on any Tube! By the way if you did the video, it was a nice job. Please forgive my tone. I do work with some "A" list Bassist.(I'll throw names out if you so desire) This is a very competent player. I have seen him in some other videos. Thanks for your comments.

  • Wow! I accidentally hit remove instead of reply in your kind remark left recently. Please leave a remark again if possible. By the way, I'm a Ms. But that's ok!

  • i highly dissagree, hes just playing basic scales... its not really impressive. and, being compaired to solos by free and wooten... this is nothing...

  • i wasnt talkin about the bass player i was talking about you MSFIRECRACKER...dam.

  • Oh, ok.

  • i believe the best bass player is the one that doesnt say he is, but the one that lets the audience decides, and im not so sure everyone thinks hes the best...if he is, then show some other good videos and let the crwod decide, just don t say it.

  • He didn't say he was the best, the author did ;(

  • well im not the best at all but i cud get close to wot that guy did at a oush but nowere near wooten but he dusnt have that high an opinion of himself either he did these tutorials chek it out im hukt!!!!

  • this is the worst the bass solo on the youtube

  • Youre the biggest douchebag on the youtube

  • I meant to call stlbaseball575 a douchebag, not the guy in the video, nice job

  • loser he plays guitar and is good so shut up id like to see you do better

  • There is no best, its all a matter of opinion! And in my opinion they r all the best at being themselves as musicians........all BASS PLAYERS ROCK!!!!

  • That is so nice! I love it!

  • excellent speech, i agree :D

  • You don't know.

  • How do you know if you've seen Victor Wooten play SO MUCH and this bass player for only 2 minutes? The person who uploaded this only caught a random sample of his playing. He could smoke Wooten for all you know.

  • /ridicule

  • great slap...but you're not the best bass player int the world...Jaco is the best 4 ever.

  • I don't play bass. Just film and list the videos, :<0 Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

  • yea man Jaco 4ever!

  • Yea, definatly not the greatest bass player, I mean, he's good but lets see here... Victor wooten? Flea? Les Claypool?

  • hes not that great AND I HATE SLAP

  • Who gives a fuck if you hate slap? and since you don't like it, your opinion is obviously not worth shit.

  • There is no heart in this solo.

  • Les Claypool ftw.

  • he's great but the title sucks.. the title shows confidence in high heaven aw

  • Todd did not upload this video or make the title.

  • He's a good bass player but I highly disagree with the video title.

  • agreed!

  • Not the best. Check out The Master of fretless and innovation Michael Manring!

  • jozevgates, manring is truly a genious! but i still wouldn't call him the best. all a matter of taste i guess =)

  • FLEA (RHCP) IS BEST BASIST ON WORLD

  • IIIIFLEAIIII (1 day ago) FLEA (RHCP) IS BEST BASIST ON WORLD ..."

    *cough*

  • *cough* Les Claypool *cough*

  • C'mon Man...NOONE does it better then Geddy !

  • uhmmm, who is this?, this is good, but u have to check Gianni Serino, then u can compare, which one is the best...once again.. Gianni Serino

  • or Larry graham, Stanley Clarke, and Jaco.

  • Nobody's the best, nor will anyone ever be "the best". If you like the sounds they make more than other players you've been exposed to, then bitchen, but they aren't the best player.

  • zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
