she should star as Nodame in the Nodame Cantabile movie!!!! She would be perfect as her!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Looks just like her and her piano playing would be good for that movie.........!!!!
@UlrichRuler13 Having a technical aspect is the most important and the most difficult part for the PIANIST... It's like a wondered person wants to be a mathematician, he loves it, but without TECHNICS he is nothing
@skimask777 Please don't even say the name "Gang Bang" on any page with Miss Wang. He will continue to spew his atrocities on the music world just the same. But thank God a real musician has come along.
I take back what I said after listening to this again, I can really now feel the emotion. I guess first time i watched it, I wasn't really listening properly. One can hear very differently when they are concentrating and not distracted by other interferences
To all the know-nothings who say there is no emotion: 1) It's the f**king 3rd movement of the Mendelssohn 1st concerto. Pure virtuoso display music, what kind of "emotion" are you expecting? 2)Check out the video of her Scriabin set from Santa Fe (yeah, the one with the tiny purple dress.) Then dare to tell me there is no feeling in her playing.
I love to see Asian musicians because when they play you get to weed out those pseudo-music-lovers who immediately assume that they have no emotions because they are Asian.
For some people, their racial prejudices prevent them from feeling.
If she is technically perfect, you say there's no emotion in her piece. If she's both technically and emotionally uncritizable, you say it's because she's asian. How confusing, isnt it
its funny when people criticize pianists. They don't realize they are also criticizing the conductor and the audience. The pianist doesnt just appear and forces her way into a concert. She has to be there for a reason, and the audience is there because they chose to watch that pianist.
technically very good but lacking emotion still a long way to go to reach the heights of cziffra, ashkenazy, horowitz and other great concert pianists...but damn she is cute right?
@skularatna I don't know what kind of "emotion" you're expecting to see Ms. Wang exhibit in response to this music, which has lots of fireworks but is pretty superficial emotionally. She brings out a sense of fun in this lively, tricky music. It is not the musician but the music that lacks emotion, in this case, and she plays it quite appropriately.
@Crayterm13 She is also beautiful when she is pouting! You can see on youtube the wohle concert, and if you look the first part, you can imagine, why she may have been not so amused.
But sometimes in this video Yuja has such a blissful smile on her lips like nowhere else, and this variety of emotions makes it so incredibly graceful.
One day Yuja Wang was walking down the street when she came across a gathering of people huddled around a man. This man was lying on the ground, having just suffered a massive heart attack.
Surely he was dead.
"Step back!" She proclaimed and the crowd immediately parted. Kneeling down, she ran the tips of her fingers up and down the man's chest as if she were playing the piano and he miraculously sprung back to life!
The crowds cheered and Yuja Wang, her work done, flew off into sky.
I just LOVE how passionate piano players look when they play! How they jump and bounce, how their arms seemingly just flies around... And in the meanwhile making that lovely music! Yay for piano!
She lives in the music she plays, her face lights up in joy when shes pressing keys. From the waiting you can see her just wanting to keep playing :D then when its her turn to go again her whole expression changes into a child that just experienced something amazing. What a great musician.
@pvn2474 Apparently you didn't heard a lot from here. Just try some different performances of hers and you'll see that perfect technique doesn't automatically mean a lack of passion!
@mikaririshow She is not very patient. That's why she loves playing the hard and fast pieces. I guess when she plays, she doesn't want to stop for any reasons because she's so into the music of her own.
Ella entiende la musica que toca en el piano mejor que nadie que yo haya visto...se nota que lo disfruta, eso hace que nosotros disfrutemos cualquier cosa que este tocando!
I have watched Dang Thai Son, Andre Watts, Lang Lang,Jean Yves Thibodeau, numerous other pianists and Yuja Wang play this. Yuja Wang's performance is the only one which which brings out the spontaneous joy that is Mendelssohn. Yuja has set a new level of excellence for the world's pianists to aim at.

You're from a country that considers Lang Lang a good pianist. Go check out solo piano events at Carnegie Hall and tell me how many are American soloists and how many are Chinks. Get a life, Ping Pong Yang.

@mr11 Hey, Third Worlder, Go listen to her recording of the Chopin B-minor and then tell me that this nothing is a good pianist. If you fall asleep halfway through the first movement, don't say I didn't warn you.
