Haha sorry man. But I am a lighting and a sound guy for a living. The only reason you have the lid for a piano on is to deaden the sound. In a big studio like that no need to kill any of the sound. And I can tell you now there would be no way in hell that a sound guy would ruin his sound quailty for lighting.

The tops of grand pianos come off for several reasons. It lets the sound out more, changes the sound I imagine, and allows the sound engineers to put small microphones in the piano to get a decent mix for the video sound
