There used to be one piece small flat steel can openers with a small hinged hook around. They came with the old army Ration packs. You might be able to find these in a war surplus store. These are virtually indestructible and about four inches long. There are Chinese Knock offs around in Dollar Stores, but they are cheap metal and break easily. Keep up the great work. I'd do an overall video on the things you've learned so far in terms of preparation. So maybe a 5 or 6 minute vid as a recap of things you've done, inventories you've built up, skills you've learned, etc... I also agree with you on the economy. Things are getting worse and when unemployment starts to run out for these massive job loss numbers, that's when things will start to fall off the cliff. Wait until 1 million plus look extended unemployment in the same month and have no where to turn.

Now all the Wall street people think everything is ok since they did away with mark to market pricing of the loans on their books. I think it is going to just make things worse in the end. The day when they put all of their non-performing loans out for bid and to the foreclosure auctions, they will have to take huge losses. There are very few jobs on two or three continents now although I think I may have to go deeper into this one to seek out new life and new worlds where jobs may exist. In ireland here the Govt. are not replacing public service jobs when people die because we are so broke. 3000 die a year. Exactly! Me too. You and I have both chosen careers that should do well in the new situation. You have the skills to build and adapt currently existing homes and businesses to new uses (like building green house extensions out of glass salvaged from abandoned homes. I also imagine that soon there will a lot of work for you in hardening homes against break-ins. Adding bars on windows and stout security doors with bars that can be swung down at night. Possibly installing alarms too.

And as a trained heavy diesel truck and transit bus mechanic, I should do well too. As cars become too expensive to use every day, trucks and buses will be used to transport people. I can predict that low slung trailers pulled by big rig tractors will be fitted with seats and used to fill out the transit bus system.

I tried to start a new business that would do crime proofing for homes in Wa. state. I was told that I needed a license, bond, and insurance to do this. I called 5 different insurance companies and they all said that because of the economic climate they were not issuing any general contracting licenses at this time since almost all new businesses are failing. I could try to work under the table but you can't advertise a service without permission (A license) from the state. I want to work!!!!

I have an old style can opener on my leatherman wave multi-tool. I have a twist style can opener that Reg just showed us but I haven't used it in months. The leatherman is slower but I'm getting faster with it. I can have a can of soup opened in about 45 seconds or so.
